House Mooton of Maidenpool is a noble house from the riverlands. Their seat of Maidenpool is one of the main ports and trade centers of the Bay of Crabs.
Their blazon is a red salmon[4] on white, over a white field with a golden tressure.[5] According to semi-canon sources their motto is "Wisdom and Strength".[6]
House Mooton is historically far wealthier than their liege lords, House Tully of Riverrun.[7]

History
Hundred Kingdoms
According to legend, Jonquil's Pool was where Florian the Fool saw Jonquil for the first time while she was bathing with her sisters.[4]
The Mootons were petty kings in the days of the First Men. The Storm King Monfryd the Mighty defeated a Mooton king and conquered Maidenpool prior to the coming of the Andals.[3] King Florian the Brave was killed by Andals in the Fall of Maidenpool.[8] The Mootons of Maidenpool were within the domains of Kings Benedict I Justman and King Torrence Teague, although the riverlands eventually passed first to the Storm Kings under King Arlan III Durrandon and then to House Hoare under King Harwyn Hardhand.[8]
Maidenpool historically failed to conquer Crackclaw Point.[9]
Targaryen Era
During Aegon's Conquest Lord Mooton joined Lord Darklyn in opposing Aegon the Conqueror, but both were slain fighting against Aegon's dragons and Orys Baratheon. Lord Mooton's brother, Jon Mooton, then yielded to Aegon. Jon supported the Targaryens in the Field of Fire, slaying men who tried to escape the dragons.[10] Although the Mootons were far wealthier than House Tully, Aegon named Edmyn Tully as Lord Paramount of the Trident after the burning of Harrenhal.[7]
During the Faith Militant uprising, Lord Mooton slew Lord Rupert Falwell in the battle at the Great Fork.[11]
Jonah Mooton, Roy Connington, and Braxton Beesbury were favorites of Princess Saera Targaryen, Perianne Moore, and Alys Turnberry. After a scandal, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen forced Jonah to wed Perianne in 84 AC. When Saera disappeared the following year, the king asked Jonah to watch for her in Maidenpool.[12]
The Mootons began the Dance of the Dragons on the side of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and the blacks. Lord Walys Mooton led the retaking of Rook's Rest for the blacks, but he was then slain in a failed attempt to kill King Aegon II Targaryen's dragon, Sunfyre. His brother, Lord Manfryd Mooton, hosted the dragonriders Prince Daemon Targaryen and the dragonseed Nettles, for a time. Manfryd aligned with Aegon and the greens after refusing Rhaenyra's order to kill Nettles. Rhaenyra ordered that a decree of attainder be drawn up against the Mootons, but she soon lost power after the Storming of the Dragonpit.[13] Manfryd served as a regent for King Aegon III Targaryen until his death in 134 AC.[14]
When Lord Bloodraven marched on Whitewalls to quash the Second Blackfyre Rebellion, among the river lords who came in support was Lord Mooton.[15]
Robert's Rebellion
House Mooton sided with King Aerys II Targaryen against their liege lord, Hoster Tully, the Lord Paramount of the Trident, during Robert's Rebellion.[16] Ser Myles Mooton, who had been Prince Rhaegar Targaryen's squire, was slain by Lord Robert Baratheon at the Battle of the Bells.[17]
Recent Events
A Clash of Kings
A nameless traveller claims that Lord William Mooton and his sons try to hunt a huge she-wolf that had attacked some smallfolk. However, they have to flee and lose all their hounds. Arya Stark questions the story.[18]
A Storm of Swords
During the War of the Five Kings, Ser Jaime Lannister, Ser Cleos Frey, and Brienne of Tarth see that Maidenpool has been sacked, but Lord William still holds its castle.[4] Lord Randyll Tarly takes Maidenpool and locks Lord Mooton in a tower cell.[19] King Tommen I Baratheon signs a pardon for Lord Mooton and welcomes him back into the king's peace.[20]
A Feast for Crows
Brienne learns that Lord William sat behind his walls while he sent men off to fight and watched Maidenpool burn. Randyll's heir, Dickon Tarly, is betrothed to William's daughter, Eleanor Mooton.[21] Amongst the hanged broken men on the way to the inn at the crossroads, Brienne sees some wearing the badge of House Mooton.[22]
Brienne and her companions see the corpses of the perpetrators of the raid on Saltpans hanged from trees. Among the dead are several men with salmon badges sewn on their breasts, presumably Mooton men-at-arms who became broken men during the War of the Five Kings.[22]
A Dance with Dragons
The thirteen-year-old Eleanor has wed Dickon Tarly.[2]

- Lord Jonah Mooton, Lord of Maidenpool. A favorite of Princess Saera Targaryen. After the princess's scandalous behavior was revealed, he was made to marry Saera's companion, Perianne Moore.[27]
- Lord Walys Mooton, Lord of Maidenpool. Slain by Sunfyre outside of Rook's Rest during the Dance of the Dragons.[28]
- Lord Manfryd Mooton, his brother and successor.[13]
