Maester Erreck is the bastard son of a hedge knight. He is considered to have considerable ability as a maester.[1]

Erreck is one of the candidates considered as a replacement for Grand Maester Pycelle by the Conclave. However, the Conclave eventually elects Maester Gormon.[1]
