Elmo Tully was the Lord of Riverrun and the head of House Tully during the Dance of the Dragons, briefly succeeding his grandfather, Lord Grover Tully, before passing away forty-nine days later.[1]
In the television adaptation House of the Dragon, Elmo and Kermit Tully are merged with Oscar Tully, who is portrayed by Archie Barnes.
Character
A reluctant and pragmatic warrior, Archmaester Gyldayn wrote that the undistinguished history of House Tully was only exacerbated by the character of Elmo and his grandfather, Lord Grover Tully.[4]
History
At the start of the Dance of the Dragons, Lord Grover Tully wanted to support King Aegon II Targaryen and the greens, but no word of support left Riverrun. Fearing the wroth of the dragons that both the greens and blacks held, Ser Elmo kept the Tully banners at Riverrun. While Grover was furious with his grandson, he was too old and bedridden to oppose him.[1][5]
The Tullys finally joined the war in support of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen, after Ser Addam Velaryon visited Riverrun atop Seasmoke, much to Lord Grover's wroth.[6] Joining Ser Addam's army, Elmo led the riverlords to victory at the Second Battle of Tumbleton. Grover passed away soon after the battle, with Elmo succeeding his grandfather as Lord of Riverrun. As the host of Lord Borros Baratheon began attacking the late Rhaenyra's loyalists around King's Landing, Elmo summoned the riverlords to war and marched a host of six thousand men towards the capital.[1][3]
While marching to King's Landing, Elmo died from drinking bad water, only forty-nine days after succeeding his grandfather.[3] He was succeeded by his eldest son, Ser Kermit Tully, who led the riverlords to victory against the Baratheon host.[1][3]

Behind the Scenes
Elmo, his grandfather Grover, and his sons Kermit and Oscar are references by George R. R. Martin to The Muppets, with Lord Elmo being inspired by Elmo.
