10,000 Ships or Ten Thousand Ships is the working title of a planned American fantasy television series, taking place a thousand years before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire to explore the story of the Rhoynish warrior-queen Nymeria.
Plot
10,000 Ships takes place a millennium before the War of the Five Kings, focusing on Nymeria and her exodus from Essos to Dorne, leading the survivors of the Rhoynar after they were defeated in a massive war with the Valyrians.
Production
Conception and development
10,000 ships was first announced in March 2021,[1] with Amanda Segel enlisted as writer later that year in May.[2] While Segel's involvement was announced on May 25, 2021, the project has not yet been greenlit to full production, nor did Segel receive a formal pilot order: the announcement was that Segel had been hired to write a formal pitch script.[3]
Writer Brian Helgeland revealed he had work on the project in 2017, prior to Amanda Segel. He was unsuccessful to pass the development phase of the project, however.[4]
As of June 2024, the project is still in development at HBO. George R. R. Martin revealed that playwright and Pulitzer winner Eboni Booth is now writing a new pilot for the project.[5]
