Cong

Cong was a criminal from Ba Sing Se, and the leader of the Paper Lantern Gang.^[1]

History[]

Cong led the Paper Lantern Gang in Ba Sing Se, which was active after the end of the Hundred Year War. Though violent, it was rumored that the Paper Lantern Gang was the laughingstock of Ba Sing Se's underbelly, and the gang leaders were restless for their leader to do something. He delegated a lot of the hard work to his second-in-command, Hua. Hua despised Cong, and secretly plotted to replace him, supported by her girlfriend, Rose.^[1][2]

To the surprise of some, Cong in fact spent a lot of his time perfecting the art of papercutting, and had an extensive collection of handmade shadow puppets. Cong did not tolerate any ridicule of his hobby, though it was sometimes joked about in whispered tones in criminal circles.^[1]

Personality[]

A brutish man, Cong was considered to be crass and violent. Hua also thought him to be very lazy for leaving most of the hard work to her. He tolerated no ridicule of his treasured hobby.^[1][2]

Abilities[]

As a master earthbender, Cong's abilities terrified many, including members of his own gang. He had the ability to make the earth sink beneath someone, and could use a stone shield to defend himself. Despite his martial skills, he lacked intelligence, leading him to delegate much of the work to his second-in-command. He was also very talented at papercutting, and many were surprised that a violent man like Cong had such a delicate hand.^[1]
