Design change[]

Because I absolutely don't know how to edit these kind of templates without breaking them I'd like to request a design change for this template. What I think would be better is having "Ephinea" and "Fodra" dropdown menus, and for "Ephinea" to have "Windor", "Strahta", "Fendel", and "Other Locations" (here locations which are not under any country's jurisdiction would be placed). "Windor", "Strahta", and "Fendel" can redirect to section of "Ephinea" article, unless we want to give them own articles since not only there are different countries, but they have different political structures.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 21:31, April 26, 2015 (UTC)

Let me hear from Lanate before I do anything. He's played the game and is familiar with the direction I'm wanting to take with location pages.

"Ghardia Shaft" and "Lambda's Cocoon" are not located on Fodra: they are part of "World's Eye", an island in the middle of Ephinea's ocean. After Lambda-Richard unleashed his powers on "World's Eye" it became "Lambda's Cocoon" and deep within that cocoon is the way, called "Ghardia Shaft", to Ephinea's Lastalia. Please correct the template so it doesn't contain wrong information.—Kaimi (999,999 CP/5 TP) ∙ 08:52, August 5, 2015 (UTC)

Please do it yourself because we are not your assistants, although Mayu did that, so you may want to consult with her first.

I'd do it myself, but two things:
  • I don't know how should I "section" it. Should I create "World's Eye" and for its dropdown menu "Lambda's Cocoon" and "Ghardia Shaft"?
  • I'm looking at the template coding in general on this Wiki and I'm on the verge of tears: I can't make any sense of it. From the quick glance at few other Wikis which I'm not a visitor I noticed they have {{navbox}} template on which they build other templates and I think that's good, because it's actually quite easy to learn how to use it. I understand that the current coding allows for desired template sections to be visible, like for locations, but the {{navbox}} template could also be edited to do it. And categories could still be added via template.
So yeah, my main reason why I don't particularly edit templates on this Wiki is because of their "uncentralized" coding, even though they all follow the same pattern.

It probably shows that I never finished the game, because I didn't care enough about the story to get any farther than the stuff that happens within the first hour of entering Fendel. I got to meet the Bagel of this world, and that's all that really mattered to me. I put those locations where they are partly due to my own assumptions, partly to add in the missing crap and sort everything in a feasible way, and partly to completely scrap out the fact that this template was created at all, despite it being WHOLLY unnecessary, and irritatingly so. It's all just red links! It has been over a year since the template was created! We would have had to create the template sooner or later, which is why I didn't delete it outright, but it's -still- all red links one year later! Not only was this error brought up a year late (which ties into the other recent hot topic about how errors have a tendency to stay for years until people point at it and complain), this template -still- has no purpose, floating in the void of unused templates. I'd rather just delete it. Thinking back, I probably created some other location templates for different games after this one popped up, but that was to subvert any template creations for those games without doing things the right way because I didn't want to risk the creation of those templates by others, in the same manner as this one. If those are still unused, they should be scrapped as well.
As for the way it was coded, do you really think I care to pay attention to the way other wiki sites do things? First of all, the location navbox templates were not created by me. They were based on code taken (or stolen without credit) from (most likely) FFWiki. And as I said in a previous conversation, the code of both that site and our own wiki ended up diverging in different ways, not unlike how evolution works for the same ancestor in different localities. While the originating site has the advantage of more users who are skilled enough in coding to make necessary infrastructure adjustments over time, Aselia has none of that. Any adjustments that I have made to the code is to differentiate ourselves enough from other sites so that any possible thievery in the past becomes irrelevant now.
If people could provide a better way of coding things while still maintaining the exact same output and without blatantly copying the coding theory of other sites, then go for it. But if the use of embedded templates amount to very little cleanup of the code due to the unique parameters each game would require for its locations, then what is the point. I honestly don't care either way, since the templates are functional the way they are now, and only this template didn't deserve to exist in the first place.
