Baldo Mistleton (バルド・ミストルテン Barudo Misutoruten?), is a protagonist in Tales of the Rays: Recollection. He is an Illusionare created from the original Baldo.

History[]

Baldo Mistleton came into existence on the Rainbow Night, when the original Baldo resisted Lugh's attempts to turn him into Balor's medium. The reaction between Lugh's power with the influence Balor had on Baldo combined with the intensity of the original Baldo's anguish at the idea of serving a lord other than Woden Rot Nibelung caused him to split off a wraith in the form of Baldo Mistleton. Trying to fix her mistake, Lugh tried to send both Baldos into the future, but Mistleton resisted and managed to drag Lugh with him in place of the original Baldo.

When he awoke, Mistleton was alone and not sure of what had happened to him. He was pursued by Illusionares, wandered, and passed out. While he was unconscious, he was found by the Gimlay family and taken into custody. Haze Cesario Ideafeldt and the rest of her research team then researched some of the mysterious properties Baldo possessed, leading to the creation of the Death Star.

Tales of the Rays: Recollection[]

When he finally regains consciousness, Mistleton no longer has any memories from the moment he came into existence until now, though he has the memories of the original Baldo. He quickly discovers he is now 200 years in the future, in an unfamiliar country that hadn't existed last he had been awake, and that his lord he had sworn to protect as well as everyone else he had known had already passed away.

Appearance and Personality[]

Baldo Mistleton (TotR)

Baldo has the same relative appearance and outfit as the original Baldo, with some key differences. His right eye is purple, whereas his left has a big scar down his cheek and is hidden behind an eyepatch. His hair is very messy and sticks out in many directions. He still keeps his hair tied into a high ponytail, but the gold clasp the original Baldo kept it in has been replaced by a simple black band.

His outfit is tattered and he does not wear any of the jewelry the original Baldo does. His wrists have green fabric wrapped around them. He has a different, larger, more elaborate cloak, but it is heavily torn at the bottom. While he does not fight with his swords, he still wears them at his hip.

Like the original Baldo, Mistleton has a calm and gentlemanly demeanor. He is unfailingly polite and speaks very formally. He has a weakness for women, and is frequently mistaken for flirting with them due to how he treats and speaks to them. Despite this, he himself is often unaware of how anyone could have possibly reached that conclusion.

Unlike the original Baldo, he is often very gloomy. His self-perceived inability to protect Woden and Mercuria weighs heavily on him, and he often reflects on this and talks about them. This only worsens as he begins to doubt his identity as "Baldo", and then learns his own true origin.

Fighting Style[]

Completely eschewing the original Baldo's fighting style, Mistleton instead uses a lantern to summon Water-, Earth-, or Dark-elemental will-o'-wisps in combat.

Trivia[]

  • Baldo's name is derived from that of Baldur, the Norse God of invincibility.
    • As such, the surname "Mistleton" derives from Mistletoe, Baldur's only weakness.
  • The weapon depicted in his official art is called "Tsukuyomi" in-game.
