Arte Proficiency (術技習熟度 Jutsuwaza Shuujukudo?, "Arts Skills Proficiency Level") is a gameplay mechanic exclusive to Tales of Arise. It is one of two main methods of learning new artes by the party.
Function[]
The system is based on the title system from Tales of Zestiria where each player character has three hidden values (Speed, Technique, Power) that increases upon level up based on the title equipped and resulting in a character learning a new arte when all three of these values meet the required point accumulation.
In Tales of Arise, the system is greatly altered. Each player character still has three different values but due to differences in their fighting style, their artes have different classifications. Each arte has a different Arte Proficiency assigned to it and each use of an arte in question raises the assigned Arte Proficiency by 1. When an arte of a certain Arte Proficiency is used with the met required minimum Arte Proficiency value, then a new arte will replace the current one in use and be learned.
For example, Alphen starts with Swallow Blade and Rising Wyvern which are of Sword Strike Arte Proficiency. Each use of either increases Sword Strike Arte Proficiency by 1 point. When Alphen accumulates at least 100 points in Sword Strike Arte Proficiency, then the next arte of Sword Strike Arte Proficiency will be replaced with Demon Fang once after which it is added to his repertoire of moves. The temporal replacement of a current arte with a newly learnt arte was present in several older titles, like Tales of the Abyss.
