Set in Nevada in the 1860s, Bonanza chronicled the adventures of the Cartwright family who owned a large ranch called The Ponderosa. Ben Cartwright and his three sons, Adam, Hoss, and Joe fought for what was just and decent in a time where lawlessness was common.
The widowed patriarch Ben Cartwright had three sons, each by a different wife: the oldest was the urbane architect Adam Cartwright, who built the ranch house. The second was the warm and lovable giant Eric, better known by his nickname "Hoss." And the youngest was the hotheaded and impetuous Joseph or "Little Joe." They all lived and worked on The Ponderosa. Nearby Virginia City helped populate the episodes with guest starring characters from all over America.
Broadcast between September 1959 and January 1973. Filmed by the National Broadcasting Company at Paramount Studios.

Ms. Harrison only made a few appearances in film and TV but she had a certain something that made her appealing. She played Burt Lancaster's troubled

kid sister in The Sweet Smell of Success in 1957, was in a classic Twilight Zone episode (Five Characters), and later became the mother of a future reality TV star (Darva Conger) before passing away, age 80, in 2019.
Here, she plays the haunted Romany girl Tirza, abandoned by her people on the Ponderosa under the false belief that she is a witch. Naturally, Little Joe is smitten with her pretty face and mysterious nature.

With superstitious rituals, apparent lycanthropy and a general eerie feeling, this seems pretty much like a Halloween episode, apart from the fact it was

originally aired in April.
Of course as we know, all seemingly supernatural phenomena are eventually found to have a more mundane explanation.
And yet another woman gets away from one of the Cartwright boys, which was a bit of shame even if she was quite crazy. :)

Subject: A HUGE INFLUENCE on the Grateful Dead
Subject: A HUGE INFLUENCE on the Grateful Dead
The band watched this Bonanza episode repeatedly to write their famous tune of the same name--& it's an awesome tune, tho nowhere near as noteworthy
...
as, say, "Touch of Grey", which was influenced by socially conscious Grecian Formula commercials & non-stop binges on "Golden Girls" episodes & MILF porn. (BONUS TRIVIA: The Grateful Dead originally thought the name of this TV series was "Bananas", and for at least 6 entire Bonanza seasons the band kept getting more stoned while waiting for bananas to appear somewhere in the episodes. {XTRA BONUS TRIVIA: Bananas did in fact appear at long last in the 7th season, episode 12--a non-PD Bonanza episode (no doubt soon to be uploaded by the always thoughtful d00fretarduserspoofster6667) titled "Carmen's Miranda Warning", about a mild-mannered shopgirl --Carmen--who warns the ranchers about a rabid dog called Miranda that is possessed by an evil entity named Pookie Tut. Pookie Tut was a local BANANA rancher who had died mysteriously in an Oklahoma gin joint while researching the Necronomicon. Today he can be found semi-daily in the Grateful Dead forum, that is, when he is not rag-picking professionally at the local Piggly Wiggly and cruising cucumbers.})
