History[]

Knuckles, Relic, and Fixit in Launch Base Zone

Unknown Original Residents[]

The Launch Base Zone was apparently inhabited at one point before Dr. Eggman crash landed and took over. (SU: #64)

Repairing the Death Egg[]

After his defeat at the hands of Sonic and Tails, Dr. Eggman's Death Egg crash landed on the floating island, resulting in the island sinking down to the water's surface. Eggman used the Launch Base Zone as his base for repairs and apparently messed with the systems. He eventually repaired his flying fortress and took off into the sky with Sonic and Tails pursuing him, resulting in another crash landing on Angel Island's Lava Reef Zone. (VG: SH3aK, SU: #64)

Knuckles later passed through Launch Base Zone to reach Mushroom Hill Zone in pursuit of a fleeing EggRobo controlled by Dr. Julian Snively, Dr. Eggman's assistant, after multiple encounters on the island. (VG: S3aK, SU: #70)

Worlds Collide[]

In the altered reality caused by the second Genesis Wave, Tails had been dealt a bad injury during a previous adventure at the Launch Base Zone. (MM: #27)

Total Eclipse[]

From a reader's perspective, this picks up from where the original Pre-Super Genesis Wave continuity left off.

Shortly after the shattering of the world, Knuckles the Echidna visited Relic the Pika, who was conducting research in the zone, as well as attempting to make contact with the surface of the planet. A few days later, after still making little success, Relic attempted to sync up all the island's old systems, but that was met with failure as well. Fixit the Robot attempted to interface with the network, and, although he was unsuccessful, as he was not full compatible with the post-Eggman affected systems, he did note a strange energy reading from Mushroom Hill Zone that seemed alien to the island. (SU: #63, #64)

Soon after, Team Dark arrived with a drone controlled by Dr. Julian Snively in an attempt to secure the Master Emerald before Eclipse the Darkling could. They left their shuttle in Launch Base Zone, and Eclipse later attempted to get to the shuttle after obtaining the Master Emerald. Knuckles the Echidna and Shadow the Hedgehog successfully intercepted Eclipse and his Dark Arms, but after a quick scuffle, Knuckles was forced to shatter the emerald so that Eclipse could not escape with it. Still, Eclipse and his Dark Arms took the shuttle and fled empty handed.(SU: #67, SU: #70)

Background Information[]

  • The Launch Base was based on the level, "Launch Base Zone", from the video game, Sonic the Hedgehog 3. In the game, the Launch Base was "the place where you can see the construction site where Eggman is rebuilding the Death Egg, hidden among the various ruins on the island." (1).
