Archie Sonic the Hedgehog issues were translated and published in Germany by Panini Comics, part of the long-running European publisher Panini Group, in cooporation with FreemantleMedia. Panini's distribution of Archie Sonic material began with a magazine series titled "Sonic Das Comic Magazin" in July 2012, printing issues from the Sonic Universe series. After four issues, the magazine was replaced by a standard comic series simply titled "Sonic the Hedgehog". Starting with StH #226, the comic was published bi-monthly and featured two complete issues of Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog per issue. This version of the series was published only in Germany and other German-speaking territories.
The series was discontinued after September 2014 and is no longer available at comic book stands/trains stations etc.

Background Information[]
- Each issue uses cover art from the original English editions, usually one that corresponds to an issue that's in the book. The only issue to not use existing Archie cover art was the first issue of Sonic Das Comic Magazin, which simply reused official Sega artwork of Sonic and Shadow.
- Issue #6 of Panini's Sonic is the only issue to use cover art that doesn't correspond with an issue in the book, using the cover of issue #239.
- Each issue of Sonic Das Comic Magazin came with a free gift (usually a cheap plastic toy) attached to the front cover with tape. This is a common practice with children's magazines in most European territories.
- Editor's footnotes referring to issues from before #226 are retained, but their contents are changed to a brief explanation of what's being mentioned rather than directly mentioning an issue number. Additionally, many additional footnotes are added by the Panin editors, for example, Sonic's flashback to Scourges "one bad day" speech in #236 is accompanied by a footnote briefly informing the reader of who this previously unseen character is.
- In Sonderband volume 1, in "The Lizard of Odd" story, Sonic's line in which he asks the reader to help him collect rings was altered so that he refers to the Sega Genesis system as the Mega Drive instead (the name of the system in every region outside of the US). However, the artwork of the Genesis controller that accompanied it was left unchanged.
- Unlike its digest-sized American counterpart, the Sonderband books are printed at full comic size.
