Heinz Doofenshmirtz is the main antagonist, and one of the main characters of Phineas and Ferb. He is Perry the Platypus's arch-nemesis.
He is voiced by Dan Povenmire.
Personality[]
“ | No, Dad, you're basically a nice guy who's pretending to be evil, and you know it seems like it's all out of obligation to your backstories, not something that truly comes from your heart. | „ |
~ Vanessa Doofenshmirtz accurately describing her father and his motives behind his evildoings. |
Despite his track records justified how much Perry and the rest of OWCA wary of him, Doofenshmirtz is a generally harmless and benign individual. There's no denying that he had a general disregard for the welfare of others, often getting extremely angry and disrespectful at people for simply performing their jobs. In his admission, becoming the oppressive ruler of the Tri-State Area was supposedly his lifetime goal, though it's clear few instances showed him almost mentally incapable of continuing with his schemes without Perry being there to stop him, and that he could probably conquer the Tri-State Area easily if he simply did not wait. In fact, he took more delight from his rivalry with Perry than attempting to fulfill such goal, much to Perry's irritation. Still, there were few moments of intelligence, such as using his technology to improve the ophthalmologist's chair for profit, creating a portal to travel to alternate dimensions, using the time loops to predict every one of Perry's moves and defeat him with a series of traps, and concoct a proper antidote to cure one of his daughter's friends Johnny (who underwent a mutation by accident) during his new job as a science teacher.
To further drive the point of Doofenshmirtz being too much of a good guy pretending to be evil due to his sordid childhood, he has a sense of moral. He found Esmeralda Poofenplotz's schemes too absurd to warrant the success in achieving world domination and deemed Aloyse Von Roddenstein's plot to send the Earth into a new Ice Age that would endanger billions of lives to be too far. He is also shown to genuinely care for his robot assistant Norm and his daughter Vanessa; even willing to give up his evil ways for the latter's sake. Towards Perry the Platypus, Doofenshmirtz was deeply respectful and gracious and when not planning anything, the two got along quite well. Perry often went on his way to save Doofenshmirtz's life whenever his plot attempts to blow up in his face with disastrous consequences. Doofenshmirtz in turn, often assisted Perry whenever the latter faces off against a bigger threat.
Biography[]
Background[]
Doofenshmirtz was born into a family in Drusselstein, Eastern Europe. His childhood was rather sordid, as he was an unwanted son of Mr. and Mrs. Doofenshmirtz. In fact, they dotted his brother Roger and treat him as a human being while leaving Doofenshmirtz fending for himself and jealous towards the formwr. At worst, they forced him to be their lawn gnome when their real one was repossessed; his only friend was the moon (and his neighbor Kenny).
His envy toward Roger only intensified when the latter also ended up at Danville like him and became its president, causing him to develop schemes to discredit Roger to no avail. Around this time, he started to develop a series of machines which became his Inator prototypes. Though his aforementioned resentment didn't go away, his date with his former girlfriend Linda Flynn (who would later become the mother of Phineas and Candace Flynn) inspired him to take over Tri-State Area; when Doofenshmirtz sarcastically expressed his desire to conquer the world, Linda suggested him to start small with Tri-State Area.
At one point before becoming a mad scientist, Doofenshmirtz started a bratwurst-vending business only for it went out of business thanks to the hot dog vending industry. He once pursue the career of becoming a poet to no avail because he lost to a baking soda volcano in a poetry competition prior to this. At evil school, he took Evil Science 101 and deemed too incompetent to be a potential villain in the eyes of Dr. Gevaarlijk. While taking classes at community college, he fell in love with his would-be wife Charlene and the two had a child named Vanessa together. Although they unfortunately divorced later on (Charlene claims that they broke up because they did not find anything in common with each other, while Doofenshmirtz argued she hated a poorly crafted hand puppet named Mr. Tomato that Doof made for entertainment, which Charlene actually concurred on), the two nonetheless maintained a civil relationship with Charlene often sent him an alimony check every month, ensuring her former husband able to make ends meet and afford components for his Inators.
Phineas and Ferb[]
Eventually, Doofenshmirtz build his own company Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated in order to attain funding for powerful Inators which allows him to take over Tri-State Area. His schemes didn't go unnoticed by OWCA who then dispatched Perry the Platypus to ensure he would never succeed in his plans.

This doesn't go unnoticed by Monobrow (Monogram's ancestor) who in turn, dispatches Bunka da Bunka Quwonk to stop him. However, his incompetence in such scheme resulted the herd to destroy his decaying cave home along with Phinabunk and co.'s prehistoric car instead thus resulting Bunka da Bunka Quwonk's interference proved unnecessary.

Darthemshmirtz[]

He is the Sith counterpart of Heinz Doofenshmirtz, and just like his original counterpart, Darthenshmirtz is somewhat incompetent in doing evil and is enemies with Perry the Rebelpus, the Jedi counterpart of Perry the Platypus. He is also a low-level employee working under the Galactic Empire and the lowest of all Darths, having a low level of midiclorians but still able to somewhat use the Force.
Trivia[]
- One of recurring gags revolving Heinz Doofenshmirtz and aperry the Platypus' feud is the former apparently couldn't recognize Parry without his OWCA-issued fedora hat, nor in even least elaborate disguise. Such instance has been compiled in this video.
- Another recurring gag, this time one attributed to his signature lab coat, is someone assuming him to be "pharmacist". He even lampshaded this in "Night of the Living Pharmacists". The joke eventually ended as of Milo Murphy's Law since no one refers to him as such anymore.
- In the 2011 TV film Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension, Doofenshmirtz meets his alternate reality counterpart, who has proven to be far more competent and successful in doing evil as he rules his Tri-State Area with an iron fist for 5 years.
- Although Doofenshmirtz is one of the main antagonists of the Phineas and Ferb series, he rarely ever met Phineas and Ferb, with the exception of the films, the episodes "Bullseye!" and "Night of the Living Pharmacists", and Milo Murphy's Law. Additionally, he has no direct conflict with the boys, as he is unaware that his battles against Perry is what made the boys' inventions disappear in the first place.
- While Candace has a direct conflict against her brothers, she's more of anti-heroine instead of proper main antagonist and villain like Doofenshmirtz does, occasionally joining Phineas and Ferb's antics if it benefits her and even enlisting their aid in solving certain crisis such as Mindless Repulsive Pharmacists outbreak. Moreover, Candace's obsession to bust her brothers is because of their approach in building their inventions behind their parents' back comes off as reckless even with precautions they made instead of mere jealousy over their genius and creativity hence her disgust towards Super Super Big Doctor's more radical approach in deaking her similarly talented younger brothers.
- Doofenshmirtz's daughter Vanessa is annoyed by his constant megalomania and his attempts to make her evil. However, in spite of this, she does seem to appreciate of what he is trying to do to make her happy, and shows some recognition when he succeeds on it. Also, in a lighter note, Vanessa admits to being a little evil in nature, such as stealing a motor scooter, as well as snatching a doll from a little girl, and holding up Major Monogram and Agent P with a hair dryer when they attempted to arrest her dad.
- In the 2014 episode "Tales from the Resistance: Back to the 2nd Dimension", it turns out that Vanessa's alternate reality counterpart is just as evil as her family, as she helped them escape arrest for their crimes against humanity.
- Doofenshmirtz had a balloon named Balloony during his childhood, which was later stolen by Mitch. Eventually, the balloon was returned to Doof following Mitch's second arrest, though it would be later popped before the events of the episode "This Is Your Backstory".
- In the Halloween episode "That's the Spirit", Doofenshmirtz created a device to transfer a part of his mind to a cow so it would destroy grass out of hatred instead of hunger, which accidentally caused him to turn into a Were-Cow. It is unknown how he turned back to normal.
- In the episode "Perry the Actorpus", he created a laser-gun to give everybody a big mustache. When he imagined his future victims with this weapon, he mentioned Fu Manchu (who is recognized for his notable mustache).
- His last name means "stupid pain" in German, which somewhat relates to his tragic childhood and eccentric behavior.
- In the Ducktales episode "The Dangerous Chemistry of Gandra Dee!", GizmoDuck faces a mad scientist named Atmoz Fear, who bears a lot of a resemblance to Doofenshmirtz (mostly in appearance).
- Doofenshmirtz is ranked fifth in the Top 20 Greatest Disney Channel Villains Ever by MsMojo.
- It's worth nothing that if Doof had been born in the United States and then was abused by his family as in his backstories, he would have long been rescued by Child Protective Services and sent to a better foster home; his parents would rightfully have been sent to prison for decades. Or at the very least taken to an orphanage where he would have been treated with basic human decency for a child.
