Bobby Baccalieri was close with his father who was able to pull strings to have Bobby initiated into the dimeo Crime Family without having to "make his bones"(kill someone). Bobby was different from others in the family as he was a level headed polite man who was a faithful husband to his wife Karen. Bobby Was quite obese leading to ridicule from many of the gangsters especially Tony Soprano.

When Tony's Uncle Junior Was under house arrest Bobby Served as his assistant. Bobby was very fond of the old man, but Junior was often irritated by Bobby and made several jokes at the expense of his employee. After the unprovoked attack on Bryan Spatafore, brother to family capo Vito Tony decided a message had to be sent and authorized Bobby's father to perform the hit.

Bobby opposed this as his father was in poor health and had Junior talk to his nephew but Tony refused to budge. The hit was successful but Baccala Sr. died almost immediately after because of  his cancer leaving Bobby grief stricken. After learning that Junior also had cancer Bobby was supportive.

After he assisted Tony in rescuing his nephew Christopher Moltisanti and capo Paulie Gualtieri in the pine barrens incident their relationship improved as Bobby assured Tony of Junior's love for him and Tony apologized to Bobby for always ribbing him about his weight.

Bobby was grief stricken When Karen died in a car accident. Tony's sister Janice took the opportunity to pursue Bobby. She scared his children using an internet access ouji board so she could comfort them in a successful plan to gain favor with Bobby and they were soon married.

Bobby was upset by Junior's dementia and was very useful in helping Tony take care of his uncle. During a monopoly game Tony was angered by a story Janice told about their mother and repeatedly antagonized her. He refused Bobby's request to stop. Eventually Bobby lost his patience and battered Tony leading to a fight with Bobby coming out on top hurting Tony's pride.

At a meeting with one of their Quebec associates about a pharmaceuticals racket the man told them that he would lower the price on their deal if Tony had his brother-in-law killed as it would solve the problems his sister was having over the custody of her child. Tony saw an opportunity for revenge and Bobby was (to his visible discomfort) made to commit the murder. The killing seemed to initiate a change in Bobby's attitude as shown when he advised Tony to stiff Hesh Rabkin over a debt.

When Tony discovered that Bobby and Janice were financially supporting Junior, he was enraged and told his sister Bobby was exiled from his life. Before he was able to vent his frustrations with his brother-in-law Bobby was killed in orders from lupertazzi boss Phil Leotardo. During Tony's (presumed) final conversation with Junior he tells him that if he remembers where his secret funds are hidden they go straight to Bobby's Children.
