Elmer J. Fudd is a fictional cartoon character and one of the most famous Looney Tunes characters, and the de facto arch-enemy of Bugs Bunny. He has one of the more disputed origins in the Warner Bros. cartoon pantheon (second only to Bugs himself). He is typically portrayed as a hapless big-game hunter whose aim is to hunt Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck, but he usually ends up seriously injuring himself and other antagonizing characters. He has a speech impediment, replacing his Rs and Ls with Ws (e.g. "Watch the road, Rabbit," sounds like "Watch the woad, wabbit!", and "You rascally rabbit!" becomes "You wascawwy wabbit!"). Elmer's signature catchphrase is, "Shhh. Be vewy vewy quiet, I'm hunting wabbits", as well as his trademark laughter, "huh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-uh". His first appearance was in 1937's Egghead Rides Again as Egghead and 1940's Elmer's Candid Camera as Elmer Fudd which also featured a prototypical Bugs Bunny.

The best known Elmer Fudd cartoons include Chuck Jones' masterpiece What's Opera, Doc? (one of the few times Fudd bested Bugs, though he felt bad about it), the Rossini parody Rabbit of Seville, and the famous "Hunting Trilogy" of "Rabbit Season/Duck Season" shorts (Rabbit Fire, Rabbit Seasoning, and Duck! Rabbit, Duck!) with Fudd himself, Bugs Bunny, and Daffy Duck.

Elmer also made cameos on Animaniacs, one in Turkey Jerky, another in Don't Tread on Us and another in the song At the Big Wrap Party Tonight. In the revival, he makes a cameo in Suffragette City and is mentioned in Good Warner Hunting.
