Scientific Parasites are a group of creatures in the Land of Ooo who feed on intelligent brain waves.[1] This is why they are commonly found in the pockets of doctors and scientists, such as Princess Bubblegum and Doctor Princess. These parasites come in many forms and colors and sometimes have the appearance of certain animals. Dr. Donut and Betty Grof don't have Scientific Parasites, most likely due to their lack of pockets. However, Science Cat has yet to be seen with a Scientific Parasite, despite the presence of pockets on his lab coat.
Scientific Parasites apparently existed during the Mushroom War, because Simon Petrikov (who would become the Ice King) is shown with one in his jacket pocket.[2]
When Finn was acting like a doctor in "His Hero", he had two science parasites inside his coat pocket. This was possibly because the parasites were in the pocket before Finn put it on, as they were waiting for a smart person. Another possible reason includes that Finn is smarter than he appears to be. However, the Scientific Parasites could be unable to determine who gives off intelligent brain waves and simply assume doctors are smart. Although this is highly unlikely, it is possible that Finn had purposely placed them there. Additionally, a parasite is present in Jake's tool belt during the episode "Slow Love", though the reason for its presence is unknown.
A Scientific Parasite appeared for nearly an entire episode in Simon's pocket during "Simon & Marcy", and seemed to show emotions, as it was upset after Simon defeated the creatures with snow, rather than simply appearing indifferent.
