"What the spark are you on about?! I'm not gonna let you take the fall alone!"
— Lanz

Lanz (Japanese: ランツ, Rantsu) is a playable character in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. He was designed by Masatsugu Saito, the lead character designer of the game.

Overview[]

Along with his friends Noah and Eunie, he is a Kevesi soldier assigned to Colony 9. He is a part of the special forces unit alongside Eunie and Mwamba who is ordered to protect the Off-seer Noah. Lanz is a Kevesi human who is biologically of Machina origin.

Personality[]

Lanz has been childhood friends with Noah and Eunie, and he grew up willing to protect his friends at any cost, even his own life.[1] Similar to Reyn, he is reckless, unintelligent, and frequently acts without thinking, causing friction between him and Taion. But he is far more abrasive in temperament than Reyn and slower to warm up to others. That being said, it is noted that he is remarkably supportive towards people he recognizes as being younger or more emotionally fragile than himself.

While he appears confident, most of it is a front and in truth he feels like he simply has to keep moving forward to stop himself from breaking down when facing his problems. Joran dying to save his life badly shook him, particularly because they had a falling out that he never apologized for. As a result, he is compelled to protect his friends, even if doing so puts his own life at risk.

Gameplay[]

Lanz makes use of his large physique by his Shieldblade that also functions as both a giant shield and a mountable gatling gun. His initial class is Heavy Guard.

In a Chain Attack, Lanz starts with 15 TP by default. His Chain Art is Tyrant Wave, which increases Defender aggro by 30-50% (depending on his level) in addition to granting Attack Up to all allies upon completing his order.

Lanz starts at Rank 5 in his initial Heavy Guard class when in the player's party for the first time.

Base Stats[]

These are Lanz's raw stats prior to modifications by class. They serve as a baseline for calculating Lanz's stats in a class. Intermediate values are linearly interpolated between these base stats.

Level HP Attack Healing Power Dexterity Agility
1 388 20 16 30 20
99 7,755 392 329 297 204

General Stats[]

These stats assume Lanz is at level 99, at rank 20 in each of these respective classes, and is not equipping any Master Skills, Gems or Accessories. Boosts from skills innate to a class are indicated with round brackets, whereas boosts from having an upgraded Blade are indicated with square brackets.
