The Cabal is a dark cult that is a sub-organization of the Shadow Council and operates exclusively in Outland. They are led by Grandmaster Vorpil and Blackheart the Inciter. The organization's members have holdings in the Bone Wastes and external ruins of Auchindoun in Terokkar Forest and in the Shadow Labyrinth of Auchindoun.
History[]
Beyond the Dark Portal[]
Ner'zhul once fled to find shelter in Auchindoun when he was being hunted by the Alliance Expedition forces under Danath Trollbane and Talthressar. It was in Auchindoun that Ner'zhul found the Cabal, and informed Vorpil of the treachery of the Shadow Council. Vorpil pledged the Cabal to Ner'zhul. Danath, Talthressar, and their forces managed to launch a surprise attack on the Horde and the Cabal. Vorpil and Blackheart took refuge in the deeper tunnels of Auchindoun, and the Alliance left them to their own devices once Teron Gorefiend ported the leadership echelon to the Black Temple.[1]
Ironically, despite Vorpil's pledge, the Cabal was to continue consorting with dark powers and remains as much an arm of the Shadow Council as it was during the days of Gul'dan and Cho'gall.
The Burning Crusade[]
These cultists are said to have summoned a great evil inside Auchindoun,[2] Murmur, which in turn caused the explosion that destroyed Auchindoun and flattened the surrounding forest creating the Bone Wastes.[2]
However, Murmur proved too hard to control and many are now fleeing Auchindoun. Several have gathered in and around the Shadow Tomb where they are storing artifacts of power they took from Auchindoun. Among these are the sacred 
[Drape of Arunen], 
[Gavel of K'alen], and 
[Scroll of Atalor] which belonged to powerful draenei patriarchs of each item's respective namesake; now the Cabal are using these artifacts for dark purposes.[2] The Cabal has also taken Akuno, a Broken friend of Mekeda, hostage within the Shadow Tomb.[3]
A caravan from Lower City has recently been attacked by the Cabal and they cannot move from their position. Although Shattrath City's guards have arrived to help and protect them, they still fear that the Shadow Council could send another attack. They ask adventurers for aid.[4]

The many Broken serving the Cabal might be degenerated remnants of the Auchenai who betrayed their brethren for the ranks of the Sargerei instead.
