Breaking In (2011)
Glad it is coming back
So glad it is coming back. Though I do not like most of the actors, they do fit their roles well. Great guests, but just like the regulars could be better. I am a NASCAR fan also, but detest Jimmie Johnson. But OK, it was still a good episode. Did anyone notice at the end when Slater got to do his lap, ALL the ads around the track were blurred out. No big deal, just kinda interesting... I do hope they keep up the same quality, quick wit, fast pace in the following episodes. This show really does work. Great twists, lots of slapstick. Not trying too hard to too serious. So many shows try to be intelligent and back it up. In the end failing miserably. Here they just state it as fact and that is it. Why waste time on things that are not really needed. And when they do explain something, it is so outrageous and hilarious! Slater is excellent and McAuley is Fantastic himself. Reminds me a bit of whats-his-name from Police Academy, but does it well enough to be his own character. Hope FOX sees the light and finds the right time slot for this show. It has LOTS of potential!!!
Rubber (2010)
French should NOT be permitted to make movies.
Who hates the french? Wait, you say you don't? Well, watch this movie and I am sure you will change your mind. Reading previews, sounded promising. But I did not notice who made the movie. As soon as the film starts rolling and I see Canal+ is involved, plus other french moneypit companies, I became suspect. After 4 minutes of watching TYPICAL french interpretation of "this is art" crap, begins a dialogue TELLING me what to expect. And what does he tell me, to expect nothing. Well, this movie is full of nothing. I could not even watch it to the end for fear of ripping my eyes out of their sockets, or possibly having my brain rebel and in an act of revenge (for continuing to watch said movie) shutting down to a primitive state equal to a slug. So to save sanity and eyesight, I had to eras this movie. Also feared my laptop might take offence and destroy my hard drive. If you are into french production movies, for God's sake, move to France and keep those damn things there. The rest of the world does not need to be exposed to this kind of useless garbage!
RED (2010)
Willis make sit good, but Mary-Louise Parker is awful as always..
I enjoyed just about everything in this movie, except Mary-Louise Parker. Seems to be the nw genre, old action guys come out of retirement. Well, there seems to be little to no new action guys that can make a movie and do big at the box office. So the old guys get together. Well in this movie it seems to work just fine. The story is good enough to keep your interest and some good twists and surprises. Willis does the coolest new move/effect I have seen in a movie. This "stepping out" is gonna be used a lot now (I think). Now a bit a bout the bad parts. Mary-Louise Parker. She is a waste of talent. She is the same in every role she plays. Has only 2 faces, stoned and confused (and obviously they are very similar, her smile is what makes them differ...) She was a poor choice for this movie. But what's done is done. What has been seen, cannot be unseen.... I have not been a fan of Malkovich, but even he was good here. Borgnine is still alive? WOW! Great to see him for a bit! Otherwise, it has everything you need in a good action flick - moves, clichés, laffs, twists...All worth it!
The Other Guys (2010)
Wil Farel just ruins everything
Reading the synopsis, I was not sure whether to watch this or not. Such a great cast, but alas, they put that Wil cretin into the movie. But with so many other great talents, I risked it. The movie was good. Wahlberg was hilarious. Sam and Dave were fantastic. Even though it was just a short script for them. They were perfect! Keaton was his usual funny self. Everybody was great. Then there is that hack Farel....I think the only funny thing he has done is playing the cow-bell. Everything else he teeters between being a hemorrhoid and being totally crap. He was just a constant distraction from the rest of the movie that was trying to be good. So Farel spoils another potentially good flick. Next time, I will not even risk watching... I give the movie a 4 only because everybody else tried so hard and actually did a good job! Oh, I have no respect for a crap actor, so I have no intention of spelling it's name correctly either...
Saturday Night Live (1975)
forget it
You just cant touch NRFPTP! The new crop is just awful. The jokes are not funny. Some of the troupe make me want to stop watching TV all together. Lorne - you have let your creation go down the toilet. The guests sometimes are good, the bands are mostly garbage. Weekend update, Seth has to tell the audience when to laugh.....Seth would get a proper reception in a Baghdad cafe though...Make sure Andy goes with him... The show has about 10 jokes in all and they just keep rehashing them over and over. Even the segments that are obviously not funny. Offending people has become the name of the game, but they cant even do that right. Just offensively. I am so disappointed with what has happened to the show, but now I also know it is safe to go OUT on a Saturday night!
Primeval (2007)
hope and failure
Watching the first season I was impressed. Great FX and interesting concept. But alas, being a British production, it is victim of the many mistakes the British commonly make. Putting recycled celebrities in to target an audience. Commonly rehashed British dialog and concepts to keep the feel British (or maybe they just don't know how to write anything else). There are just too many elements in personalities and inter-character situations that have been done over and over and over, that I have a hard time not turning off the program. The main concept is great, but it little develops in the episodes to keep it afloat. Way too much is focused on the characters and there is nothing new, interesting or captivating there. If the writers could just concentrate on the basis of the show and not the soap opera that is supposed to carry it (because it will give it a quick and painful early death if they don't). The ending of season 1 was pretty good, but season 2 has become a bore with again, the main plot not going anywhere. Just a powerful vehicle spinning it's wheels. The British are also amazingly cheap. They will only budget 6 episodes to a season. Unless it gets astronomical viewership. Then they will milk it for all it is worth and spend money on useless material (Dr. Who and Torchwood Confidential for each episode). WHAT A WASTE!!! Save the money, get some better writers (that know how to focus on a concept), make a FULL season of episodes (13-22). So that you don't loose the few good actors that you have remaining.... I do hope this show develops to it's full potential, but alas, if you look at how the British have compared up till now, it probably wont 8(
Tin Man (2007)
Forget it
I will forget this one. Though the concept intrigued me and the promo was good. In the end I struggled to finish watching this. The first episode seemed like it had good potential. The production looked good, the effects were nice. But it all unraveled to quickly. The story just started ailing apart with little to no intrigue. The outcome was much too obvious and disappointing. Zooey Deschanel also was a total disappointment. When I first noticed her in other productions, I though she could be of interest. But a weak appearance in Weeds left me bitter. In Tin Man she shows a complete lack of talent. Looks like she has about 3 faces total. The constant look of bewilderment on her face disgusted me. I am now totally turned off by her and probably will avoid anything she will be starring in, in the future. This production also almost constantly used the OVERUSED cliché in cinema today - "I dunno! - Oh, no I know..". Hollywood seems to think that cliché is the answer to every thing they cannot explain or portray on a screen in a reasonable amount of time. Pitiful... I gave this 2 stars only because the beginning gave some sort of interest. But overall it is a wast of time. Sorry SCI-FI..Try again.
Supernatural (2005)
Spook show with class!
With so many shows that bomb after one season, and good shows that get cancelled after a season. Here is a breath of fresh air where a good show just keeps on going. Cinematography is absolutely superb. Cast is fantastic. Scripts keep the stories interesting. Goos twists, best soundtrack, an always the appropriate feel. Episode 3.3 Bad Day at Black Rock was also SO HILARIOUS!!! I was absolutely in tears laughing. But never do they forget it is a spook show with suspense. A little bit of cheesy stuff mixed in, a continuous expanding plot that can be followed. And things are explained fairly well to justify the spooks existence. Hope this show keeps this excellence up for years to come.
The Adventures of Ford Fairlane (1990)
best one liners
One of my all time fav's!! This movie has the best one liners. I gave the movie only a 9/10 cuz the story was a bit cheesy in parts. But the Grendel conspiracy in the movie is what has ACTUALLY happened in the music business. That is the sad irony of this movie. But to get over that depression, just watch the movie and the laughs will cure you. This is Dice's trophy performance. Mostly a good supporting cast also. But Dice just outshines everybody here. But the one liners are irreplaceable and timeless. But you also have to deliver them in that same voice.
Dice Rules!!
The Sarah Silverman Program. (2007)
pathetic
I remember my parents not understanding Saturday Night Live when I was 15. They also did not understand Rock n Roll and many other things. Now that I am approaching their age, I still remember, and find I understand many of the things my kids love. But this is pathetic. I cannot say I have seen any by Sarah except for a few appearances here and there. They were reasonable. I do not see her as anything special. But this show is just so far below what I expected from her. The IMDb write up made it sound like potential. So, just for that, I started watching the first episode. I turned it off half way through. Anything else is better that that. Jokes that are meant for a 5 year old presented on a supposed adult program. Well, Sarah, this adult is inly moved to turn you off. I just cant believe that someone actually financed this insult to comedy. Only good thing I can say is that there are sooooo many bad jokes deposited here, saving other shows from such an embarrassment.
Late Night with Conan O'Brien (1993)
Your time has come
When Conan started long ago, I watched it and found it refreshing, funny and different. I was not able to watch Conan for several years and now for the past year have been watching regularly again. Well, I was SOOOOO disappointed. I struggle watching each episode. The first thing that annoyed me was Max Weinberg. Nothing good to be said about him. NExt is Conan's repetion of emty words to fill the time. Pathetic. Skits have become weak and gross. I usually have a late night snack and I will have to put my food away during Conan. Lorne Micheals has a great eye fr talent, but has a hard time dealing with it when it gets stale. That so obvious with his ventures with SNL. It is high time to put Conan out to pasture. Don't understand what he got an Emmy for. But the Emmy are generally a bad joke, just like Oscars. Maybe he can still write a skit or two for SNL, but I have serious doubts. Goodbye Conan!!
Journeyman (2007)
great potential
This was an interesting debut. A little confusing at first, but did intrigue me though. The concept reminded me of "Life on Mars" (which I thought was excellent), but with Jack moving back and forth in time built on the concept. OK, interesting twists in the story. This could possibly give it the extra edge in future episodes. Now we all have very similar concepts abut time travel, what is allowed and what is not. Well they seem to break the rules here. OK, fine, not a problem. Nothing wrong in breaking rules in sci-fi. That is what sci-fi is all about anyhow. This just may breathe some fresh ideas and make it more entertaining than all the strict rules set by Einstein and Gene Roddenberry. So what!! Go for it guys!! I enjoyed the pilot. I am hoping the rest of the series is as good. Hope it does not suffer the same fatal blow that Day Break suffered (also starring Moon Bloodgood).
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008)
Good start
Just watched the pilot and it looks good. A few nice surprises and twists. Hope they can keep it up throughout the series. And anything with Summer Glau is worth watching 8) PRoduction was good, effects were good. Story seems fairly seamless. Characters were fine. Actors selected were fine. This has a lot of potential for a TV series. It has the opportunity to go int so many directions if the writers are willing and able. So long as they don't start stumbling over their own feet. I hope, unlike so many new series that get cancelled after the first season, Warner Bros. Might have the guts and the talent to keep this going for a few years. Good shows like Invasion, Surface, Firefly, Space Above and Beyond, (and many more) got cancelled for all the wrong reasons. Hope This does not suffer from the same fate!!!Haven't watched the movies in a while, but I have incentive now. Good luck and I am keeping my fingers crossed!!
Class of 1984 (1982)
Great flick
Great flick with reasonable acting. Includes a very young and chubby Micheal J Fox.
What this movie does have that is VERY unique, is a cameo appearance by Teenage Head. The must FUN band Canada has ever put out. This movie gave Teenage Head a much needed publicity boost. Canada has produced many good and serious bands, but Teenage Head is just a FUN band. Though their appearance in the movie is very short, it did reflect them well. Did it reflect the club scene well? Actually their "office" was a good joke. I have enjoyed the movie for many years. It is a reflection of reality in schools (though not accurate) but well worth watching!!
