Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024)
Rewind the 80s
It was a fun ride that had a lot of the original elements. Nothing new in terms of the plot but it was entertaining. It was nice to see most of the original cast show up throughout the film. Everyone is a lot older so don't expect a lot of physical action and fighting scenes, just a lot of bullets flying.
I said everyone is much older but the main start, Murphy, seriously doesn't look much older than he did in Beverly Hills Cop III. There's a scene with Eddie Murphy and Kevin Bacon in a room together. Bacon looks like the 65 year old OG he is but Murphy looks nowhere near his age of 63. 63! Let that sink in when you see him on screen. Unbelievable.
Hidden Assets: Episode #2.3 (2023)
Most annoying episode so far!
When the killer finds the house Bibi is staying in, the officer gets a call and is told to stay by her side. What does he do? Hangs out downstairs while Bibi is upstairs closing curtains all of sudden. The killer starts shooting. He misses her and the slow officer finally starts to act but once again Bibi happens to be in front of another window and the killer takes another shot. She gets down but then quickly stands back up right in front of the dame window where the killer was shooting at her. Stupid lazy writing! This entire scene took the show from pretty good to soap opera nonsense! Everyone made a bunch of stupid moves as if they wanted the killer to find Bibi and kill her.
House Hunters: Forging a Future in Florida (2023)
Paying rent to your spouse
A couple who've been dating 2 years, decide to move in together. Sounds good, right? Well, Mary is buying the house in her name alone. Her boyfriend, Tyler, will be paying her rent. In other words, he's moving out of his current home in order to help his current girlfriend pay her mortgage. What happens if they break up? Mary keeps the house and equity while Tyler packs his bags and looks for a new home.
When a couple move in together, it should be an equal exchange. Because Tyler is just renting, this is not an equal exchange.
Mary and Tyler make a cute couple and I hope they last and get married someday but we all know sometimes things just don't work out. The financial risk of a relationship should be equal.
Run Sweetheart Run (2020)
Executed well enough but what was executed wasn't very good
Good acting for the most part. Competent directing. It's like someone took a a bad low budget script and attached a pretty good director and actors to it.
This film felt pretty horrible. Maybe it was all the senseless killing that was ultimately given a pathetic backstory. While watching this film I just felt off, sick, and unpleased for a lack of a better word. I would not recommend this to anyone, not even hardcore horror fans.
Don't bother trying to figure out what exactly the villain is. There is a brief description towards the end but it basically explains next to nothing. The weakness the villain has would lead to one assumption but the brief description of the villain earlier, rules out the obvious assumption.
After watching the film, just out of a mild curiosity, I googled to find out what the villain was. Nobody seems to have an answer other than the little bit explained in the film.
Some reviewers I have no doubt will have rated this film poorly because of the growing trend of hating on anything that focuses on women being victims or women being heroes. Ignore all of that. The film sucks for other reasons based on something other than fake anti-men fears. I am a man and felt no such concern.
My Son Hunter (2022)
Not worth the time
As the description states, it is in great part a work of fiction. They needed to make that distinction so as to not get sued and lose in a court of law because they know a lot of the claims are not proven facts and that some are flat out lies.
The purpose of this work of #%^* is nothing more than a means to insult or otherwise hurt our current president of the United States. Hunter Biden doesn't work for the United States. He is not a threat to our National security and he does not have any top level clearance for anything.
Directed by the guy with the messed up face from Goonies and Die Hard who just happens to be a Trump supporter and a man who claims to be a Christian.
If you're a Trump supporter then this film will entertain you for the same reasons you watch Tucker Carlson.
Imagine a world where Democrats did the same thing by making films about the Trump family. Or how about the Kushner family. There would be no need for disclaimers in the form of the fiction label because poppa Kushner did go to prison for his nutty crimes. Trump did get sued and was ordered to pay $25 million to his victims in his fake Trump University. There are dozens and dozens of factual events that would make for a shockingly twisted Trump film.
Palm Springs (2020)
Nothing new, not as good as the rating suggests
We've seen this story in Groundhog Day and a dozen other films and TV series. I went into this thinking it must offer something new and exciting for it to have so many positive reviews. I was wrong.
Nothing new unless you count a lot of sex scenes/talk about sex new to the concept. It was all very mild and ended as mild as it started.
I'm assuming that some people found the jokes funny, but again, they were all the same sex jokes we've seen a thousand times throughout comedies from the early 2000s.
The Groundhog Day concept, the triple serving of raunchy, all add up to be A LOT like Russian Doll. If you liked that series then you'll probably like Palm Springs.
Red Rose (2022)
Starts off mildly good, gets much better, then a stupid ending
The first few episodes were just alright. They led us to believe something that wasn't exactly as it seemed to be as we find out later on. In the last few episodes things get much better, more thrilling, and then they end it all with a annoyingly stupid conclusion that has several things happen that in reality would absolutely not be the way people would deal with the situation. If not for the ending, I would have rated this series a 6.
There is a much better Netflix series called Catfish. That too has a few very big secrets/twists that were done well.
Stowaway (2021)
Very BAD
Don't buy the high ratings. This was very bad. I like Rose but she has gone down the same very bad low-b rabbit hole Bruce Willis did.
The plot, the acting, the dialogue, all horrible.
So Cold the River (2022)
I saw this film so you don't have to
There is nothing interesting going on in this film. The script is all over the place and the end result is poorly executed.
Our time is valuable and honest reviews matter. Like many other low budget films, this one is being flooded with less than real reviews, not to be trusted.
Halo (2022)
Nothing new but still fun
So far theres nothing really new about this humans vs alien sci-fi series but surprisingly enough, I really enjoyed the first episode. I've always been an on and off gamer (mostly PC) but I never played Halo and so unlike a lot of fans of the game, I didn't walk into this expecting anything other than some kind of war against aliens.
The show is produced by Steven Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment so that's a good thing to someone like me who likes most of their shows.
Effects/CGI are at or near theatrical blockbuster quality so that's great. Think Star Trek Discovery.
Without knowing the video game story, I really like how the main characters, some kind of super soldiers, are highly regarded as being extremely powerful /capable. When you have hundreds of what appear to be Navy SEALs of the future, yield to just 4 super soldiers, that just projects a serious sense of respect (and fear).
Halo is definitely going on my short weekly watch list. I just hope the show has a good run because it looks expensive like Star Trek Discovery but as popular as the game was, this doesn't have the legacy and fan-base of the Star Trek universe.
Blacklight (2022)
Really not worth your time
Even if you're extremely bored and or just want to zone out, you won't enjoy this film. You'll probably zone out from it. Nothing interesting happens. I would say it feels like such and such but the truth is I literally felt nothing from the entire film (other than the very first murder which was messed up).
It's not only everything we've all seen dozens of times, it's also just so void of any emotion, any reason to care about any of the characters (including the lead).
I thought maybe the low ratings were just people being over critical. I thought let me give it a try. I should have followed my own IMDB rule: If it's rating is below a 5 from at least 100 ratings, then it will suck bad!
The Changed (2021)
Not worth your time!
Everything about this movie was done very poorly. The acting, the script, the lighting, all horrible. Even the horror OG Tony Todd had a horribly boring character to play. Even if you're really bored, you'd be better off watching Nicole Kidman in Invasion. If you don't mind horror, an ultra low budget film done right: It Follows.
Beckett (2021)
Can't not believe how WEAK the lead is
Okay, the main character is not a cop, former military, navy seal, etc., but he is a young healthy man who should have been able to handle himself even just a bit better. Around every corner he handles physical alterations as if he is a 12-year old boy.
One of his many stupid moves: While running from a bad guy, he picks up one of those garage 4-foot fluorescent lightbulbs to use as a weapon against the guy about to come around the corner into the room he's in. After hitting him with said lightbulb, he immediately proceeds to use an exit to escape as if he already knew it was there but decided it was too soon in the script to use it.
I really wanted to like this movie but it was one dumb move after another.
The Deeper You Dig (2019)
Not good at all
I went into this film hoping that at least some of the reviews were real. When it comes to low budget films, you can often tell whether or not the reviews are legit based on whether or not the review contains things such as "very good for a film made on next to no budget" or when the review mentions how well the director and writer did along with a 9 or 10 rating.
I did not enjoy this film. I hardly got through the entire film. The acting and script were horrible. I can see what they were going for but the end result is a film worth skipping.
Hero Mode (2021)
TERRIBLE!
Lots of 10 star reviews. At the time of me writing this, there is only 1 review that is not 10 stars. I wish I could get my time back. They tried but this film is just horrible on nearly every front even with OG's like Sean Astin and Mira Sorvino.
Shookum Hills (2021)
A few okay moments in an overall horrible film
Don't believe the high reviews. This is SyFy channel bad. The plot sounds good enough for sci-fi/horror fans but the plot doesn't deliver. There were a few moments where everything looked and felt better than the sum but by the end of the film, you want your time back. Unless you enjoy those SyFy channel original films, this one is a hard pass as you will not be missing anything.
Gatecrash (2020)
Don't trust reviews that focus on the director rather than the actual film
All too often we see new indie films come out with glowing reviews that go straight into what a great job the director did and with a small budget. These reviews more often than not, come from the directors themselves or someone close to them.
Concrete Plans (2020)
Reviews by filmmakers
So far, most of the reviews are clearly from the filmmakers or people associated with them. The film I watched is not very good and I would not recommend it. Poor direction and poor story.
Stalked by a Reality Star (2018)
Once again, the writing!
Who writes these stories?!?!?!
It's all the same been there done that. The teenage victim is having a hard time convincing any adults that she's being stalked. Even her own mother, who starts dating the stalker (yeah, really), doesn't believe her.
So the victim, along with one of her male friends, breaks into the stalkers house. Of course the stalker sees her breaking in via a video alert and races home. The victim and her friend while in the stalkers bedroom, hear the stalker pulling into the driveway. The girl says lets get out of here and proceeds to leave. The male friend says "you go, I'll be right behind you." Really?!?!?! She runs downstairs and out the back door and then turns around talking out loud asking where her friend is. Cut back to the bedroom and the friend is taking a pic of the stalkers wall of photos. As if he could not have taken a pic in 2 seconds and been out the door with her! I don't know why I keep turning to LMN. I need help!
The Wrong Tutor (2019)
Who Writes these films???
Working from home, I always have my TV on. I keep turning to LMN even though I know better. Around every corner the male lead keeps his mouth shut when we all know that in real life, any person would speak up in order to fix the present problem. Not this guy. It's as if the writers were too lazy and just had the main character do everything he could to keep falling deeper and deeper into the traps set by the crazy character. Nothing new and not worth your time. You'll just cuss out the lead while being bored by the lame script.
The Wrong Patient (2018)
Who writes these movies???
Just another bad story of a crazy person trying to destroy the lives of a family. We've seen this all done a million times by now. The lead actress Sunny Mabrey, as a doctor, mother and wife, did a very bad job. She was absolutely not believable as her face showed no emotion in any of the scenes that required extreme emotional expression. most of the other actors were just as bad. Combined with a very bad script, this just another TV movie you'll forget minutes after watching it.
Lovecraft Country (2020)
Slow start but the horror and sci-fi kick in near the end of the first episode
Slow throughout most of the first episode but then the action (and horror) kicks in towards the end, leaving you wanting more.
For those too young to understand, there is a lot of racism elements throughout the episode and though it may feel out of place within your mind, in reality, it is exactly what life was like back then for people of color.
If you can't handle seeing racist people behaving the way racist people did back then - then this isn't going to be for you. It's not an attack on white people. It's a realistic window into how people of color were attacked daily for no other reason than being people of color. Don't get it twisted. This is a horror/sci-fi story, a fact that is made clear by the end of the first episode.
Locke & Key (2020)
All stupid characters that get more stupid with each episode
The most annoying thing about this series is how stupid ALL (good guys) of the characters are. Around EVERY corner, they do one stupid thing after another. This all begins after the discovery of the magic keys, which get treated as if they discovered something unimportant.
The bad guys keep getting the drop on the good guys because the good guys were written so stupidly! It got to the point where I was hoping the big brother and most of all the big sister, would get taken out!
Undercover Billionaire (2019)
So far, pretty good
I first heard about this billionaire, when he was worth about $100 million, back in the early 2000s. He was living in Orange County CA, building company. I remember hearing his wife say that on their first date, as he was telling her a story about his past, she all of a sudden knew that he was the man she was going to spend her life with. So happy to see that they have been married for 16-years now. I recall that she was a news reporter working in L.A. To help her deal with the rush hour drive, he hired her a personal driver to make the daily commute.
Now about the show. Not much happens in the first episode with regards to seeing him build a business. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that this is not like other business reality shows in that the entire season takes us through this one billionaires journey rather than a new store, new billionaire each week.
Even though he states several times, that he has a cover story about why their are cameras following him around, I have to assume that in reality, some if not most of the people in the town, knew right away that all was not as it was presented to them. Let's face it, when was the last time someone made a reality show about a homeless man trying to find a job and create a life in a small town? That's basically the cover story he and the show are claiming to be selling to the small town community.
I plan to DVR the entire season not just because I am an entrepreneur but also because I happen to like the guy as I had a very good impression, reading about him and seeing a video of him in the early 2000s, seeing his home and his wedding that he had in his Newport Beach backyard.
Quanta (2019)
Terrible Script!
Another low-b film that goes nowhere and ends nowhere. The script has the same horrible dialogue that so many low-b films have. I wanted to like this film coming out the gates but as the minutes rolled by, I realized that I was wasting my time.
A discovery. Something cosmic about said discovery. Disagreement on how to handle the discovery. Government (or in this case a University) wants to hide and control the discovery. Sadly, the entire film is about the arguing of the discovery rather than exploring the discovery. Seriously!
This film is a lot of the same that we've seen in so many other small films yet nothing new or interesting. Watch at your own risk, the risk of wasting your time. the good news is that after watching this film, I quickly began to forget what I had just watched, so almost as if it had never happened.
