Le salaire de la peur (2024)
Average Action Thriller
Don't have too high expectations. I was already prepared when I read the critics here but believe me give it anyway a chance.
There were two things I liked the most: the superb pictures from the desert of Marocco and second the top cinematography. The story itself was too basic without great emotional suspense moments.
There were some turns and twists that kept your attention until the end.
The action scenes and the special effects have been executed really cool. The roles of the actors had limited potential unfortunately but this was due to the content.
If you are not expecting much it works for an entertaining Sunday afternoon. If you liked it you should see The Terminator movies with Arnold Schwarzenegger. 5/10.
The Hunt (2020)
Time Killer
It was somehow fun somehow too bloody to be fun. On the other side The Hunt was a simple thriller told in a not too long running time. It is basic and goes quick to solutions. It is fast paced and doesn't take seriously the story itself. Anyway, I think it is too overrated on IMDb and I really cannot understand the hype on this. Watch it if you have nothing else to do and then it works for a good time killer.
The main actress did a solid job.
The action scenes have been executed on a satisfying level and the movie wasn't boring at all. But it is not the one you would seee
It again. My vote is 5/10.
Unbroken (2014)
A war movie with a great message
Unbroken seen on Netflix tonight is a true story during the last Second World War. The main character was the Olympic athlete Louie Zenparini played by the British actor Jack O'Connell. Zemparini gave an example never to give up. Even under hard circumstances and tortures by the Japanese commander he didn't broke his hope. Angelina Jolie directed this movie emotionally and put depth in this prisoner camp on Japanese territory or when they tried to survive on the escape boat after the US bomber crashed on sea. There are other survival films for example Cast Away with Tom Hanks or All is Lost with Robert Redford. Another important one is Buried that I highly recommend to see.
Superb cinematography picture and top job of main actor Jack O'Connell.
8/10 includes one star for hope and that you must believe in yourself.
BAC Nord (2020)
Too overrated
Honestly it deserves just five stars the strong performances of the three cops. This is all I can say to this thriller that is based on true events.
The story itself is simply and quick told but I missed more action or suspense. Sometimes during the long paced scenes i felt asleep or I could really clean up the kitchen😂. It shows how corrupt the police departments are and that you cannot trust everyone. If you liked it you shouldn't miss the great dark thrilling series Der Pass or the cool German Netflix production Crooks with Oscar worthy actor jobs. You won't regret.
For The Stronghold / Bac Nord 5/10.
22 July (2018)
Great reconstruction
Director Paul Greengrass did it again. Like the other brutal terrorist attack movie Flight 93 The 22 July is another great reconstruction of an unforgettable day in the human history of Norway.
Especially the terrorist actor Anders Danielsen Lie delivered in my opionion an Oscar worthy performance. Then one of the survived victim played by Jonas Strand Gravli was top too. Really standing ovations for these two actors who impressed me so much. Bravooo. 7/10.
I hope to see them in other films in future.
There were done many terrorist movies in the last decade. If you liked it watch the Bin Laden thriller Zero Dark Thirty.
Abgeschnitten (2018)
Too overrated
It began promisingly but for my opinion it went in the second half completely downhill. There were a few wholes and I missed the very important suspense for such a serial murder thriller. I cannot understand how many positive reviews could receive this movie but it was by far under my expectations. Then I found the way how the professor had to solve the puzzle fetched too far away. Finally it was too brutal and bloody and it could have resolved on another moderate level. The end came rather unexpected and again it has missed the opportunity to develop some more tension for the very end. I don't think there will be ever a sequel. 5/10.
Svaniti nella notte (2024)
The story come a bit cheap there
It was just an okay thriller without great plots and turns. A low budget movie that doesn't even reach a middle vote here. The two main actors who played the disturbing couple are fascinating to watch with their blue eyes and both made it good too in this movie. But there were some wholes that if you don't take it seriously does work anyway to have an interesting evening. It could have been done more about the handling but perhaps this potential has been thrown away easy for financial reasons. If Netflix would have done their contribution who knows how it came out but the story didn't let some spaces to create a top production. Sorry, but I use to see higher level movies with much more substance. 4/10.
Get Out (2017)
Loved it
I found Get Out on Netflix even it came years ago out. It begins slow but gets faster until the end.
The main actors made a good job and the director succeeded to create a great psycho thriller combining the Afro race into the story that touched me and my wife deeply. It was interesting to follow the scenes one by one guessing what come next. It was by time even horrible how the characters and roles of these people in the movie changed. But I don't want to spoil more details here and let surprise yourself. For this exceptional work I rate it 7/10 cause you don't see it everyday such sort of thriller.
Sisu (2022)
Great revenge Nazi Thriller
If you like these genre of movies you should check out Rambo, The Equalizer or The Fury.
The mysterious landscapes took me far away from the daily stress. It was very interesting and a great surprise to see the one man army show and how he proceeded to revenge and defend himself against the Nazis. There were many scenes that have carefully done and well studied. The last chapter I liked the most what I won't give away here. If you want to spend an entertaining cinema moment this is one of the finest similar to a Rambo movie. But be warned that there are many bloody and brutal scenes. Don't take again all serious, just put your seat belt on and enjoy it with popcorn. 7/10.
Don't Move (2024)
Entertaining psycho thriller
It was better than I have expected and don't believe to all the negative reviews on IMDb.
The wonderful landscapes combined with a psycho murder made together a real popcorn thriller. The main actors delivered good performances and the director Sam Riami created with his experience a dark Netflix movie with suspense. The story is simply but there many surprises and turns that it was never boring. The running time is not too long. The end I have seen coming far away but anyway it worked really for an entertaining Saturday evening.
The actual rating here of 5.8 matches nearly with my vote of 6/10.
Lift (2024)
Solid pop corn action thriller
It was better than I expected. The actors did a good job. Don't believe all the negative critics here about the CGI special effects. I found them great cause they carried me on this hell ride in the sky.
I liked the story and these special scenes created a real high tech heist deal. The ideas were well developed and cool executed. The running time was okay and the picture superb. The music was too basic and boring. I have already heard it in other movies and hope not to hear it again in another film. With another sound it could have been much better I think. The director. Felix Gary Gray made from this script a solid action packed thriller that merits a 6/10. Watch it to have an entertaining evening and don't take all too serious.
Nobody (2021)
Surprisingly cool revenge thriller
It was not only a great surprise to see Nobody but there were so many funny scenes. It was a good mix of both that I liked so much and I hope there will be more Nobody movies in future to come. At least the end let's all open for a sequel.
Bob Odenkirk played the role so cool. I don't remember I saw him before in other films but thumbs up for his talent. I love revenge movies like The Equalizer with Denzel Washington or Law Abiding Citizen with Gerard Butler.
I vote a solid 8/10 for great entertainment and action packed combat scenes.
Don't miss it on Netflix, you won't regret if you don't take all seriously.
Der Pass (2018)
The best thriller series from Austria
Wooooow, these episodes were the best I have seen from Austria Netflix production. The dark serial murder is told in three chapters and kept my attention until the emotional end. It was only possible to reach this result with a top script full of enigmas. Then of course by a top masterly direction that can entertain the audience with camera work and little important investigation details. Finally the two main actors Julia Jentsch and Nicholas Ofczarec delivered their best Oscar worthy performance so far. I didn't see Nicholas Ofczarec in any series before but I was so impressed about his role as murder hunter and in the same time playing a very sensible person who experienced bad things when he was a child. I don't spoil any other information and I just recommend you to watch it. One my rare votes of 9/10.
Loups-Garous (2024)
Don't take it too serious then it works
In fact it is a funny movie that you don't have to take everything seriously. It is just an adventure fantasy thriller for family that brings you back in the middle age. The sceneries therefore were done really great. All the actors contributed a top performance to create this story believable to the audience.
Watch it on a Saturday or Sunday evening when you don't have anything else to do and you will see how you will relax and have a good time. If you like this genre of film so check out Le Pacte des Loups with Vincent Cassell and Monica Bellucci.
For all these reasons my wife and me rate it 6/10.
Rebel Ridge (2024)
Solid dirty cop thriller
I am satisfied what I saw in this dirty corrupted cop thriller. Better than I have expected. Aaron Pierre and the aged Don Johnson were on the top here. I am already curious to see Aaron Pierre in other action movies like this one. Then James Cromwell was interesting to see in this role. The music was fine and the director who wrote this story did a great job too. Perhaps some scenes were too long paced or could have been cut. The theme hits no doubt the question if justice is done every day correctly but sometimes it is perhaps better not to know the truth at all.
Netflix did it again and merits solid 6 out 10.
Ripley (2024)
Wooow
Wow, what a beautiful series played in the very romantic Italy. Okay it's in black and white and sometimes I missed the nice colors from the sea or the picturesque village at the Amalfi coast Atrani. The atmosphere and chosen locations are so real that I believed to be back in the 60ies. Andrew Scott and Dakota Fanning played their part solidly and the Italian police officer did also a very good job. The story is very dark and in a way intelligent.
It was clever how Ripley saved himself in each critical and diabolical situation he committed. In this way this nine parts on Netflix flew away without annoying and I liked to watch it nonstop till the end. Finally, congratulations to director Steven Zillian for this marvelous work. Hope to see more from him. 9/10.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle (2017)
Disappointing
I cannot believe this has a rate of 6.7:10 on IMDb.
It was a real torture to watch it and I felt nearly asleep because it was so boring. There are cheesy scenes with robots and so on. What a disappointment and the script is by way one of the worst I have seen long time ago. I mean it didn't make any sense what this agent club is doing and it never came to a point where I had to say wow or nooooo. I think the first Kingsman is better than the this one that should never have been done.
For all these reasons it deserves not more than 3/10 and on IMDb as I said it is too overrated.
Watch instead Heart of Stone they is much more clever and has full of great action and intelligent twists.
Heart of Stone (2023)
Nonstop Action
Wow, I didn't expect so many action in this thriller.
There were so breathtaking special effects that seemed to be real executed. The story is similar to James Bond. I mean the world is in danger and it must be saved before the bad ones gets the power to destroy it. The actors did in my opinion a good job and the director orchestrated all the combat scenes masterfully. It was never boring and the entertainment has a high value. Check it out if you like this kind of movies. The Bourne Identity series or The Mission Impossible episodes shows exactly the same countdown but in a much more powerful art. Anyway, it is worth seeing. 6/10.
Uncharted (2022)
Entertaining Adventure Movie
It was an amazing adventure trip chasing a hidden treasure. Mark Wahlberg was well placed here and all the actors did a good job. The special effects looked great and the end lets open for a sequel. The filming locations were wonderful. If you are a fan of this genre don't miss all Indiana Jones movies or National Treasure with Nicolas Cage or Sahara. I will definitely watch again the National Treasure or Sahara because I like these kind of enterprisers because they take me out of my daily business and so I can disconnect.
For this high value of entertainment I rate Uncharted with a solid 6 out 10.
Babylon (2022)
Sleeper
Hey, did I see another movie? I think with 7/10 this sleeper is by far too overrated. Can somebody tell me what is really going on here? I switched off after 40 minutes when nothing special happened since the beginning. Okay, we see the golden years were Hollywood grew up as the heart of all rising actors and the great capital of cinema.
I have explained you nearly what I felt but if I was not clear enough let me tell you this. I expected some more known personalities with real stories but perhaps I stopped it too early and I missed something? I cannot imagine that but really I mean
It was too slow paced and without any emotional moments. 3/10.
The Call of the Wild (2020)
A good example why we should love animals
I liked very much this adventure movie because it took me away from my daily business into wonderful locations and nature. The dog Buck is unfortunately not a real animal but an animated creature. Its character is so emotional and sensible as dogs usually are. There are many lessons to take away from this story and to learn from dogs.
The main actors Omar Sy but especially Harrison Ford delivered great performances. Ford put his stamp on this animation film. It was never boring and there were many twists that kept all the time my attention. The director and writer presented
really a nice piece for family and children.
7/10.
Geostorm (2017)
Great Special effects
I am very surprised by the high entertaining value Geostorm was. The rating on IMDb is too underrated and the reviews too negative here. Why I consider this desaster movie so good is that the story is packed with the present we are living and the advanced science fiction technology with the satellites. All together accompanied by great special effects and soundtrack. It was never boring and it was interesting how the locations switched from one country to the other with the coming programmed catastrophes. It looked amazing and gives me almost pleasure to watch it again.
Gersrd Butler and Jim Sturgess were top in their roles. For all these reasons it deserves 7/10.
Die Luftbrücke - Nur der Himmel war frei (2005)
Interesting after second world war movie
If you are interested what happened after the Second World War in Berlin these two episodes movie is for you. At least for me it opened my eyes.
I didn't know many details about Berlins population with their surviving problem created by the Russians. The cooperation between the Americans and Germans was very significant at that crucial point to save West Berlin. Unbelievable how explosive rhe danger of a third world war was.
Thanks God there was an important weapon in the hands of Washington to change the political motivation of Stalin. The live affaire between the US General and the German wife was very interesting and was never boring. 6 out 10 that matches exactly the actual rating on IMDb.
Infinite Storm (2022)
Don't expect too much
This survival movie is based on true events.
It is slow paced and puts you together with the rescue woman in a dangerous countdown. The sense of this dramatic story is that both persons changed each other the view of life. The pictures are beautiful and the sound of the storm was quite realistic. Naomi Watts delivered a respectable performance and saved perhaps this film from a complete disappointment. What the mountain patrol could learn from this experience is on the hand that I don't want to spoil further here.
The rating on IMDb matches the vote I give 5 out 10. If you like this genre of movies check out
Society of the Snow.
Plagi Breslau (2018)
Average serial killer
If you haven't really nothing to do this one could entertain you. It shows brutally executed persons by a serial killer. The story is nothing special but finally it is in the same time a revenge thriller.
It is not so hot developed and I really expected more suspense. Perhaps the identity of the murder was disclosed too easy in my opinion and too early. The actors did a good job and the running time was not too long. I would say the pace was quite high so that it was never boring.
What I missed was more depth in each death case. I mean the motivation of the assassination was resumed in some explanations after the executions have been done. 5/10.
