This short was so cool...until it got to the end. The CG is really nice, yet falls hard into the uncanny valley. That said, there are some great artistic moments, and the fight scenes are just plain cool. And I liked how they handled the idea of werewolves (and I'm usually not a fan of overly used tropes like vampires/werewolves/etc). And while the story uses a lot of cliches, I found them easy to get over...until the end. There's no real motivation for it, except to check the box of having the hero walk off into the sunset, empowered and in control. Still a cool short for genre fans.

The idea of the soldiers is interesting. The other soldiers' dislike of them could be better explained. There's a fair amount of uncanny valley happening. The end is week.

Great concept and execution. I would love to see a feature length film with these characters.

'Shape-Shifters (2019)' comes close to looking creepy, its photo-real humans living somewhere near the uncanny valley. It just about sidesteps this issue, though, thanks to its believable performances and stunning scenery. Its fantasy elements also help in this regard. Where the piece succeeds the most is in its brutal action sequences, which are tense and exciting. It has a good overall atmosphere and a strong sense of pace. It's story is very generic, though. This doesn't stop it from being entertaining, but it does prevent it from being truly engaging. Still, it's a good effort overall. 7/10

This episode is awesome on on levels. Strong writing, great visuals (solid use of mo-cap), very immersive story telling. Loved it all the way around, very much agree with the other reviews... we need more! I'd 100% help crowdfund a feature length follow up or long form story in this universe. Well done on this episode guys, you nailed it!

I've decided to review each of the short films that make up this series individually.
Back in the world of CGI, though not quite as good as some of the other ones we've seen in this series. "Shape-shifter" posits a world where the US Marines utilise werewolves as trackers, in a similar way that Native American have been used previously. Though they are a vital part of the group, they are ostracised by their squad mates, until one night where a nearby exercise has gone badly wrong and it becomes apparent that the enemy have werewolves of their own.
As I say, "Shape-Shifter" doesn't really have quite the polish of some of the other CGI stories in this series. It feels about the standard of a video games from a couple of years back, in fact, Video game is perhaps something that occurred to me a few times during the viewing. At one point it jumps to a first person view point that helps to sell that idea. It's a decent little story though, nothing too extraordinary but enough to maintain interest levels throughout. It's ending, perhaps, is a little weaker and doesn't really make sense, when you think back on it. But it's fine whilst it lasted.

Loved the power, the fight, and the sense of heroism the main character had. Awesome werewolves and coolish story not given enough. The only part that is bad is that it is so short and we don't get to know more or see more. Wish something like this could be made longer and into series/movie.

I disliked for the following reasons
1) The military (and cops) are always portrayed the same way by Hollywood, just like in this episode. Lots of cliches. Everyone (except the hero) is a dick with the maturity level of middle school.
2) I just think Americans being "the good guys" in Afghanistan is a tough sell. Especially with how it ended under the Biden regime
3) The wolves take constant abuse from the military... Why? Are they sheep who blindly follow orders or werewolves? At least he walked away at the end
4) Overall the animation isn't enough to carry the episode because they all have great animation.

I can definitely see this expanded into a full scale movie. I was picturing Sam Worthington as the protagonist.

I loved the idea behind this story. So much more could have been done with this but they only gave us a taste. I would love to see an anime or even comic about this. Anything. We need more!

Hands down, coolest werewolves I've seen on screen. This FOR SURE needs to be made into a movie or tv show!
Shape-Shifters and Sonnie's Edge were the best. Please make more episodes. Totally exciting.
