Indian auteur Anurag Kashyap has boarded Deepak Rauniyar’s “Pooja, Sir” as an executive producer, while Channel 4 has snapped up the film for the U.K. and Ireland.
The film debuted in the Venice Film Festival‘s Horizons strand competition earlier this year, and has subsequently played Hamburg and Busan, with the Mami Mumbai Film Festival up next. It is inspired by real events which took place in Southern Nepal during the 2015 race protests, involving the Madhesi community. In the film, when two boys are kidnapped in a border town in Nepal, Detective Inspector Pooja is sent from Kathmandu to solve the case. However, upon her arrival, the brewing political unrest and violent protests throw her off course, compelling her to seek help from Mamata, a local Madhesi policewoman. By putting aside systemic discrimination and pushing through everyday misogyny, the women attempt to solve the case.

Before he became one of the most underappreciated characters on "The Big Bang Theory," actor Kevin Sussman was set to play a member of the show's core group. According to Jessica Radloff's book "The Big Bang Theory: The Definitive, Inside Story of the Epic Hit Series," series co-creator Chuck Lorre and pilot director (and sitcom history legend) William Burrows didn't just want Sussman for the role of Howard Wolowitz –- they wrote it for him. In fact, the actor who would go on to play comic book shop owner Stuart Bloom was at one point even hired to play Howard, but the deal dissolved quickly for a bizarre reason.

Let’s start with the Good. Over the past two years we have done everything we can to improve and grow within this beautiful industry we call podcasting. With the introduction of our podcast app - Overhaul FM - we wanted to create an app that we would want to use, focused on podcast discovery.
Overhaul FM on Google Play Store - Overhaul FM on Apple App Store
After several updates, we wanted to provide our users with good news on our progress and where we stand. With the goal of making a big-screen Australian musical in the vein of movies like Muriel’s Wedding and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert that made such an impression on her growing up, Rebel Wilson has in many ways measured up to the delights that made those films modern classics in The Deb, which just had its world premiere at the closing night of the Toronto Film Festival.
Overshadowed in the past few weeks by a public dispute between Wilson and the film’s producers that nearly derailed this premiere, that kind of negative energy should not cloud what, for much of its two-hour running time, is a toe-tapping, dazzling, fun and young musical entertainment with an exceptional cast in the kind of showcase that makes future stars. Wilson knows exactly what kind of entertainment she wants to serve up here, and for at least the first half...

Back in the day, crime dramas usually used to have corrupt cops. And even if the protagonist was a member of any law enforcement authority, they used to punch up instead of down. In case you’ve forgotten due to the Singham franchise’s recent trashy entries, the first one was actually about catching a corrupt politician, not doing the bidding of one. While movies like Ugly, Raman Raghav 2.0, Paan Singh Tomar, and Sonchiriya tried to show the real face of the law, films like Talaash, Mardaani (and its sequel), Raees, Dabangg (the entire trilogy), Murder Mubarak, Rautu ka Raaz, Khakee: The Bihar Chapter, Delhi Crime, and even the highly revered Article 15 kept portraying the police as the bastion of justice and righteousness. That said, slowly but steadily, directors and writers are starting to realize again that maybe celebrating the khaki uniform isn’t a good idea because it has some real-life consequences.

Do you, by chance, remember when director McG made good movies? Yeah, I know, me neither. And his latest, Uglies, won’t disprove that point. It is hard to believe that the man who cut his teeth directing Sugar Ray music videos has successfully made movies for nearly a quarter of a century.
Yes, cinema is a visual medium, but McG has always focused more on aesthetics. From the Charlie’s Angels franchise to family fare like Rim of the World and Family Switch, he emphasizes vain visuals instead of character depth and a good story.
McG may have finally found a film that tackles those sensibilities with Netflix’s latest Joey King vehicle. Uglies is a grossly digitally enhanced, special effects-driven, inefficacious streaming film whose themes are so wide of the mark that it practically becomes conceited.

John Carpenter's 1981 sci-fi film "Escape from New York" has a novel premise: in the distant future of 1997, crime skyrocketed 400%. Instead of stopping crime in New York City, the government merely built walls around the island of Manhattan and transformed the whole burg into a massive prison. There are no cops on the inside, and only armed guards — and mined bridges — keep people inside. Anyone who commits a major crime is dropped into New York and forced to fend for themselves.
Naturally, Air Force One is shot down, and the President's escape pod lands inside New York Prison. The president (Donald Pleasance) is trapped! The dangerous, eyepatch-sporting criminal Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell) was recently apprehended for robbery and is offered an ultimatum by the smarmy Police Commissioner (Lee Van Cleef). Snake will have his record expunged if he agrees to break into New York and rescue the president. Also, as additional motivation,...

Following weeks of rumors, the Friday, August 30 episode saw what is likely the end of the road for actor Adam J. Harrington on ABC’s “General Hospital” after his character, John “Jagger” Cates, was killed off.
During a face-off with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), John confronts the mobster, telling him he should turn himself in by confessing to his crimes. Unfortunately for the FBI agent, Sonny had the upper hand, informing John that he made a mistake by going after his family, something the coffee importer/exporter had warned him about previously. In the end, Sonny shoots two bullets into John as the rain pours down over them.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) after his final episode aired, Harrington seemingly addressed his exit, captioning the post, “Good night all……” The post was accompanied by a photograph of a sunset. Separately, in a post on his Instagram story timeline,...

Apart from being one of the most badass figures to ever grace the silver screen, Clint Eastwood is also notable for his contribution behind the camera. Having directed several acclaimed features throughout his decades-long stint as a director, one thing that sets him apart from other filmmakers is his calm and speedy approach.
Contrary to someone like Stanley Kubrick, who didn’t shy away from taking several takes to get the perfect results from the actors, Eastwood is famous for not taking more than one or two takes at most. Matt Damon, who has first-hand experience with the director, recalled the story of how Eastwood ensured one of the most impactful moments in Mystic River was nailed in one take.

Indian auteur Anurag Kashyap is returning to the children’s film genre with his latest production, “Little Thomas.”
The comedy-drama, which is the feature directing debut of Kaushal Oza, is slated for its world premiere at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (Iffm).
Starring Gulshan Devaiah and Rasika Duggal, alongside child actor Hridansh Parekh, “Little Thomas” marks Kashyap’s first foray into children’s cinema since his 2007 animated directorial venture “Return of Hanuman.”
Set in 1990s Goa, the film follows a seven-year-old boy’s attempts to reunite his quarreling parents in hopes of getting a baby brother. Kashyap, known for hard-hitting films like “Gangs of Wasseypur” and “Ugly,” was drawn to Oza’s vision of creating a genuine children’s film from a kid’s perspective.
“It’s a difficult genre actually, to make an authentic children’s film,” Kashyap said. “So one has to ensure that it’s a good script before making it.

The Bollywood movie industry is known for its amazing love stories, colorful costumes, beautiful songs, and of course, bizarre fight scenes. Almost all Indian movies also have some sort of super villain who tries hard to make everyone's life miserable only to be defeated in the end.
But this is only one part of the movies the industry creates, the other part is a tough drama. When we hear about drama, we are used to movies with sad endings or the ones where everything starts and goes bad but comes to redemption in the end.
Well, these 5 Bollywood hidden gems are so gripping that they make Hollywood thrillers look like children's movies.
1. Khilona (1970)

Donald Trump and Vince McMahon came head-to-head in WWE in what was dubbed the ‘Battle of the Billionaires’ at WrestleMania 23. Trump was a familiar face at WWE matches, but he never appeared in the ring until 2007. During Raw’s Fan Appreciation Night, Trump played the people’s champion when he showered money down on the fans like confetti. Thus began a rivalry storyline between the two which resulted in the 45th American President slapping McMahon on the face.

At WrestleMania 23, both Trump and McMahon agreed to send their proxies to fight it out in the ring. McMahon chose the Samoan wrestler Umaga while Trump picked the relatively new Bobby Lashley. Donald Trump’s appearance in WrestleMania 23 boosted the show’s pay-per-view buys.

Officially, Prime Video’s spy drama Mr. and Mrs. Smith is based on the 2005 film of the same name. Unofficially, however, its origins are a bit murkier. Though this 2024 streaming iteration of Mr. and Mrs. Smith starring Donald Glover and Maya Erskine shares its basic premise with the previous Brad Pitt and Angelina-starring version (a married couple who also happen to be spies), the series diverges from it in some major ways as well.
In an interview with The Today Show, Glover (who also co-created the 2024 series) even admitted to not having seen the 2005 Doug Liman-directed film when he decided to embark upon the project. Co-creator Francesca Sloane wrote in an open letter to fans that “No one would need a show that retold the same blockbuster movie. But what we set out to do was to make something wholly original.”

Even in a hit-or-miss "Saturday Night Live" episode, you can always count on the "Please Don't Destroy" guys to deliver a digital short that is decent at the very least. Such was the case with "Roast," a short where Dakota Johnson walks into the Pdd office and inexplicably starts roasting all three of the guys. She has some plausible deniability during the first two or three digs, but the moment she calls them "The Lonelier Island" — a reference to SNL's original digital short comedy trio whom the Pdd guys still live in the shadow of — the gloves come off.

Screaming Females are calling it quits after 18 years as a band. The New Jersey punk trio announced their breakup through a social media statement posted on Tuesday, December 5th.
“After 18 years we have decided that Screaming Females is coming to an end,” they wrote. “A lot changed around us over those 18 years but at our core we operated pretty much the same throughout. We funded and made the records we wanted to make.”
The group continued, “We did our own art. We printed a lot of our own merch. We managed ourselves. Probably most importantly we loaded up our van with our gear and traveled around the world to play shows wherever you would have us.”

With Talking Heads set to reunite next month for a live Q&a about their legendary concert film, Stop Making Sense, David Byrne has reflected on their acrimonious breakup and expressed regret about how he handled the situation.
“As a younger person, I was not as pleasant to be around. When I was working on some Talking Heads shows, I was more of a little tyrant,” Byrne told People. “And then I learned to relax, and I also learned that collaborating with people, both sides get more if there’s a good relationship instead of me telling everybody what to do.”
He added, “I think [the end] wasn’t handled well. It was kind of ugly.”
As pioneers of new wave, Talking Heads released eight albums from their formation in 1975 through their split in December 1991. While speaking to the Los Angeles Times the following year, drummer Chris Frantz and bassist Tina Weymouth...

Mumbai, Aug 7 (Ians) Indian auteur Anurag Kashyap, whose films like ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, ‘Ugly’, ‘Dev.D’, ‘Black Friday’ and others have strengthened the parallel cinema in India and have cultivated an enormous fan base, is set to visit the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (Iffm) as his upcoming film ‘Kennedy’ has been selected as the closing film at the festival.
Kashyap, who is often credited as the poster boy of the present day indie cinema in India, shared that he had the idea of ‘Kennedy’ brewing inside him for 20 years but it only got materialised when the pandemic hit the world. Talking about how the came together, the director told Ians: “I have had the idea for ‘Kennedy’ for close to 20 years,...

Barbie star America Ferrera is no stranger to big franchises. Before appearing in Greta Gerwig’s ode to womanhood and in NBC’s beloved sitcom Superstore, Ferrera got her start on a very relatable ABC primetime soap Ugly Betty.
First premiering in 2006, Ugly Betty ran for four season on network television and built up a devoted fanbase. The series, which is now streaming on Netflix, starred Ferrera as the titular “Ugly” Betty Suarez, a braces-wearing 22-year-old fashion neophyte from Queens. The show follows the awkward Betty as she lands a job at high fashion magazine Mode in Manhattan wear she works as a personal assistant under failson editor-in-chief Daniel Meade (Eric Mabius).
Ugly Betty was a lovely little series chock full of both drama and thoughtful commentary on how young women are expected to navigate their personal and professional lives. If that sounds like the kind of thing that would...
