Charlie Cox took the stage at GalaxyCon Raleigh this past weekend to share compelling new details about the highly anticipated Marvel series “Daredevil: Born Again.” As anticipation builds for the new Disney+ chapter, Cox provided insight into pivotal changes that expanded the show’s connections to its groundbreaking Netflix predecessor.
Originally, the plan was to distance the new series from its former identity on the streamer. A planned cameo for Elden Henson’s Foggy Nelson was intended to “end the link” between franchises, dismaying long-time “Devil” fans. However, Cox revealed the creative team opted to bring Henson and Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen Page back as leads instead. “It was pretty heartbreaking at first, but I’m thrilled they’re coming home,” Cox told the excited GalaxyCon crowd.

Drew Carey likes to have fun with some of the contestants when they appear on The Price is Right. Since he replaced Bob Barker as the host, he has brought part of his comic sensibilities to the role and has a few fun one-liners and zingers he gives to contestants. This includes his comments to a woman named Karen this past week.
Here is what the woman did that caused Drew to refer to her as the “Original Karen.”
Drew Carey Shades The “Original Karen” On The Price Is Right
Drew Carey was hosting an episode of The Price is Right last week and it had one of the most shocking game wins in the show’s history. However, on top of that shocking win, there was also a moment where Drew called out a contestant who was earing a shirt that said “Original Karen.”

One of the most highly anticipated MCU productions is certainly ‘Daredevil: Born Again.’ This is partly due to the fan-fueled hype and partly due to its turbulent production that’s been plagued with everything from the SAG-AFTRA strike to creative differences in what the showrunners wanted and what the studio wanted.
It yet remains unclear how connected ‘Born Again’ will be to the Netflix series, and the majority of the plot remains largely unknown except for the fact that Daredevil will be starting a new law firm, he will face off against Muse, and Wilson Fisk will be running for Mayor. What we do know is that several notable characters from Netflix’s production will be making a return. Both Elden Henson’s Foggy and Deborah Ann Woll’s Karen were seen on set so that settles those rumors. The question of whether Bernthal’s Punisher would return as well...

The original ‘Daredevil’ series ran for three seasons on Netflix between 2015 and 2018. The series was critically acclaimed, and many superhero fans still consider it one of the best superhero shows ever made. The series followed the blind titular character, played by Charlie Cox, and his adventures as a lawyer during the day and the Man Without Fear at night.
The series finished its run on Netflix after Disney brought the rights back to Marvel Studios. The fans started a large social media campaign to save the series, and their prayers were ultimately answered in July 2022 at San Diego Comic-Con when the Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige announced a new series, ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ with Cox set to return and Vincent D’Onofrio reprising the role of Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin.
A new rumor might explain why Foggy Nelson and Karen Page won’t return in the upcoming series!

A white woman from Lakewood, Colorado, has gone viral as a “Karen,” screaming racist remarks toward a Latin family while sitting by a pool at her apartment complex.
The woman has been identified as Blair Featherman, an art consultant and interior designer who specializes in Feng Shui decorating.
In a TikTok video posted by @jadeserie last week, Featherman yells at the group for having a “f—ing Mexican party in the pool” and calls them “trash.”
Later in the clip, she sits on a beach chair, telling the family to “go back to Denver.” After receiving angry responses, she says, “I live here! Nowhere where you came from, wherever you came from, you f—ing low-class slime!”
During another part of the video, a man from Featherman’s group can be seen restraining her in her chair.
The argument led the police to get involved, but it remains unknown if any arrests were made.

The 23rd BET Awards were given out on Sunday evening, in a five hour-plus (!) ceremony held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.
This year’s host-less BET Awards had a lot going on, including a star-studded celebration of 50 years of hip hop (featuring musical medleys curated by DJ and producer Kid Capri); a tribute to the late Tina Turner, led by the legendary (if teleprompter-challenged) Patti Labelle; the recognition of Busta Rhymes with the Lifetime Achievement Award; and performances by nominees Coco Jones, Ice Spice, GloRilla and Latto, plus Doechii, Lil Uzi Vert and Mad Lion.

In the article series Sound and Vision we take a look at music videos from notable directors. This week we look at Sonic Youth's Disappearer, directed by Todd Haynes. The love affair of Todd Haynes with Sonic Youth is a long one. Before his feature length debut, Poison, but after his seminal short film Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story, Haynes directed a music video for Disappearer. It was one of many videos made for the album Goo, which, surprisingly for that time, had music videos for almost every single song. Curiously enough, other music videos for that album include ones called Tunic (A Song for Karen) which was about Karen Carpenter, and one called Mildred Pierce. Did Sonic Youth seek out Todd Haynes on the...

The Beach Boys were one of the biggest musical groups of the 1960s. But that doesn’t mean they completely dominated the entertainment industry. The band provided the theme song for a short-lived ’60s sitcom that few have heard of today.
The Beach Boys’ massive musical success, including dozens of hit songs and best-selling albums
The Beach Boys were formed in 1961 and were composed of brothers Brian, Dennis, and Carl Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and their friend Al Jardine. Brian was the creative mastermind behind the group’s music, while dad Murry Wilson managed them.
The group dominated the charts in the ’60s with hit singles like “Surfin’ U.S.A,” “Fun, Fun, Fun,” “I Get Around,” “Help Me, Rhonda,” and “California Girls.” The Beach Boys have sold over 100 million records worldwide and still tour today.

Now forty years after her death, this doc reveals astounding new insight into the singer's tragically short life and enduring musical legacy. Warning: This post contains spoilers for the HBO Max series “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin.”
“Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” is a much more horror-centric take on Sara Shepard’s young adult novels about a group of teenage girls who are being stalked by an anonymous assailant.
While the teen slasher series contains plenty of callbacks to the original series, there are also a ton of winks to classic horror films that make the series that much more eerie — from strikingly obvious references like “Carrie” to more subtle references like “The Shining.”
“We’re such die hard horror fans,” co-creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa told TheWrap. “I think that’s part of the fun of this show is getting to play with those tropes and doing new versions of those scenes.”

The fourth series of its franchise, “Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin” had big shoes to fill in the eyes of the fans. Sometimes it’s like they read your mind—or just notice upcoming releases as you do. Whatever the case, I’m thrilled that the release of Terence Davies’ Benediction played (I assume!) some part in a full retro on the Criterion Channel this June, sad as I know that package will make me and anybody else who comes within ten feet of it. It’s among a handful of career retrospectives: they’ve also set a 12-film Judy Garland series populated by Berkeley and Minnelli, ten from Ulrike Ottinger, and four by Billy Wilder. But maybe their most adventurous idea in some time is a huge microbudget collection ranging from Ulmer’s Detour to Joel Potrykus’ Buzzard, fellow success stories—Nolan, Linklater, Jarmusch, Jia Zhangke—spread about.

There’s plenty of mystique and controversy surrounding how exactly Hollywood awards are chosen, from the 10,000 hand-picked members of the Academy who crown each year’s Oscar winners to the notoriously insular group of some 100-or-so journalists who hand out the Golden Globes. In a fitting rebuke of the elite awards culture it satirizes, the Golden Raspberry Awards do things differently: $40 is all it takes to vote for the Razzies.
“I like to point out that although the Golden Globes are now lower on the Hollywood totem pole than we are — which is saying a lot — we have 10 or 11 times as many voters,” Razzies founder John J. B. Wilson said in an interview with IndieWire.
Now in its 42nd year, the Razzies highlight cinematic misfires, under-achievements, and failures. This year’s nominees were announced Monday, led by Worst Picture contenders “Diana the Musical,” “Infinite,” “Karen,” “Space Jam: A New Legacy,...

Yippee-ki-yay, Bruce Willis sure has a lot to celebrate the day before the 2022 Academy Award nominees are announced.
The Razzie Awards, also known as the de facto anti-Oscars, just crowned prolific action star Willis as the first actor to receive their very own awards category: Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie.
Golden Globe winner Willis, who is now a leading star of producer Randall Emmett’s “Geezer Teasers,” as coined by Vulture, appeared in eight direct-to-video films this past year. The Razzie-nominated films are “American Siege,” “Apex,” “Midnight in the Switchgrass,” “Cosmic Sin,” “Deadlock,” “Fortress,” “Out of Death,” and “Survive the Game,” which were all part of a Half in the Bag review episode by YouTube channel, Red Letter Media.

Nominations for the 2022 Razzie Awards have been announced, spotlighting the worst films and performances of the last year. Leto is nominated for worst supporting actor opposite the likes of Ben Affleck in “The Last Duel” and Mel Gibson in “Dangerous.”

As is tradition, the Golden Raspberry Awards announced their contenders on the eve of the Oscar nominations. The Razzies, now in their 42nd year, are a tongue-in-cheek ceremony that “honor” the worst films of the year. Scroll down for the full list of nominees in all 10 Razzie Awards categories ranging from Worst Picture to Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel. Unique to this year is a category dedicated to Bruce Willis and his eight performances in pictures last year.
Leading the 2022 Razzie Awards nominations roster is the Netflix version of the Broadway flop “Diana: The Musical” with nine bids. Tied with five apiece are “Karen” and “The Woman in the Window.” Each of these ill-conceived movies counts a Worst Picture nomination among its haul. Joining them in that race are the sequel “Space Jam: A New Legacy” and the sci-fi flick “Infinite.”
As usual, “winners” will be decided by Razzie members.

The Razzie Awards nominations recognizing the worst “crap streaming, beaming and steaming from our various screens and devices” of 2021 — as the group put it — have been announced, with LeBron James, “Diana: The Musical,” Amy Adams and Bruce Willis topping the heap.
“Here’s a look at what we saw,” the organization said in a press release. “The excruciating musicals, thrill-free thriller rip-offs, a nearly 2 hour product placement flick, and more Bruce Willis than any starving viewer could stomach. In other words, 2021 did not fail the Razzies!”
With Oscar nominations coming out on Tuesday morning, the Academy Award’s snarky counterpart, the Golden Raspberry Awards (aka the Razzies) followed suit as they do every year at this time acknowledging the superior work – or, actually, the inferior work – coming out of the entertainment industry.

Last week, three studios made major announcements that suggest Premium VOD income isn’t enough to prioritize it over other platforms; this week, the VOD charts suggests a drop in the momentum toward home viewing options. This may be temporary, with “Candyman” (Universal/$19.99) scheduled for release September 16, but Disney will present the rest of its 2021 movie slate as initial theatrical exclusives. Universal placed “Halloween Kills” day-and-date on Peacock October 15, and Paramount announced that it would replace chairman and and CEO Jim Gianopulos with the more Paramount+-friendly Brian Robbins, currently head of Nickelodeon.
Warner Bros. provides same-day HBO Max access for its theatrical releases, but James Wan’s “Malignant,” a $40 million-budgeted horror film, mustered only 735,000 viewings (per Samba TV’s estimate). Clint Eastwood’s “Cry Macho” this weekend and next month’s “Dune” should do much better. Disney’s “Free Guy,” just announced for September 28 PVOD, should also find high interest.

Tyler Perry's Sistas' Brian Jordan Jr. Previews Maurice's Season 3B Hostage Status: 'He's a Fighter'
Fans of Tyler Perry’s Sistas are so concerned about Maurice’s fate that they have started approaching his portrayer, Brian Jordan Jr., in public. That’s because in the BET drama’s Season 3 midseason finale, Q, his mentee and new lover, pulled a gun on Maurice and demanded entry into the bank where he works.
“You would think with Covid and masks that things would be different, but people don’t care. They’re very worried about Maurice — and that’s a blessing,” Jordan laughingly tells TVLine. “I also can’t tell them anything except, ‘Don’t worry too much.

Actress Taryn Manning says she’s been “attacked” by white women over her new film “Karen.” The title of film — and the name of her character — has become a catch-all term in recent years for white women that engage in petulant, racist and sometimes outright dangerous behaviors, often directed at people of color.
“I was, kind of, taking it on head first and, like, responding to people, you know, ‘I’m so sorry you feel that way,’” she said in a clip for an interview with Mr. Warburton magazine. “I was attacked a lot by white women who felt that I had betrayed my own race.”
In the BET movie, Manning’s character, the aptly-named Karen White, makes various microaggressions against her Black neighbors and even threatens to call the manager on an innocent restaurant patron.
Despite accusations from some critics that “Karen” was “damaging and irresponsible” and “just a tactic to further divide us,...

Beginning with a shot of a chalk-drawn Black Lives Matter sign being washed away by its eponymous busybody and somehow getting less subtle from there, “Karen” lives up — or down, rather — to the expectations set by its infamous trailer, which went viral for all the wrong reasons earlier this summer. From the title (which in recent years has become a pejorative term for entitled white women) to nearly every narrative beat, writer-director Coke Daniels’ satirical thriller offers little in the way of incisive social commentary or thrills.
“She seems nice,” Imani (Jasmine Burke) says to her husband Malik (Cory Hardrict) upon first seeing their new neighbor. She’s proven wrong moments later, when Karen (Taryn Manning) installs a new security camera pointed directly at their home and half-jokingly accuses Malik of casing her house. A genuine jaw-dropper on multiple levels, Coke Daniels’ “Karen” is a misbegotten thriller about a woman named Karen who actually is a Karen, as defined culturally by her entitlement and racism. Adding to the oddly literal vibe is the fact that she’s played by Taryn Manning, an actress who has weathered accusations of Karen-ism in real life. But perhaps we should just allow the movie’s dialogue to speak for itself:
“We have a white entitled neighbor named Karen? Oh my goodness, this sounds like something straight out of ‘SNL.'”
“No, it’s more like ‘Black Mirror.'”
Indeed, viewers will be continually pulled between disbelieving laughter and stupefied confusion, making this by far the most trenchant exchange in the whole film.
When our heroes Imani and Malik move into their new suburban Atlanta home, Malik muses, “Who would have thought, us living in a white neighborhood?” This is actually a reasonable sentiment,...

There will be a time when it’s okay to have the name Karen again. But right now, in 2021, you can’t help but feel bad for any normal, upstanding woman with the name Karen, as the name has gained another meaning in recent years as a way to denote a panicky white woman that swears she is fine with Black people but is actually completely racist. Their answers, in turn, create a back-and-forth that is sometimes funny, occasionally awkward and always thought-provoking.
