Provocative director Larry Kent is set to show his indie horror film, She Who Must Burn, at Fantasia (Montreal, QC). The film tackles both sides of abortion, in a bloody fashion. The film was shot in Vancouver, British Columbia. And, She Who Must Burn stars Sarah Smyth (Alien Trespass), Jewel Staite and Andrew Dunbar. A preview of the film's upcoming showing is hosted here. For more on the story, Angela (Smyth) is running a health care practice, in her home. Her abortion services do not sit well with activists. Soon, she is being targeted by a trio of anti-abortionists, who show true religious zeal. Now, Angela must wonder if her macabre practices have murderous consequences. A trailer for the film was released last year. The clip shows even more of the narrative as Angela is chased across the screen. Strange characters appear and local authorities appear overly trigger-happy. All of...

WWE Studios has released the first trailer for their horror movie Leprechaun: Origins, which is a reboot of the original cult franchise. I've enjoyed the Leprechaun films that have been made over the years because of how absurd they were. I was especially entertained by the cheesy humor. The reboot seems to have ditched the humor aspect of the franchise and the filmmakers seem to be going for more scares this time around. As much as I enjoy horror films, this doesn't look that good to me.
"Leprechaun: Origins concerns two young couples who, while backpacking through the Irish countryside, 'quickly discover the idyllic land is not what it appears to be be when [a] town’s residents offer the hikers an old cabin at the edge of the woods. Written by actress Rashida Jones (I Love You, Man) and her actor friend Will McCormack (Boiler Room), Celeste and Jesse Forever is an unusual out-of-love story about two people who try to maintain their best friendship despite being unofficially divorced. Although the two writers were never married in real life, the film (directed by Lee Toland Krieger) is inspired by their own relationship, with Andy Samberg playing Will’s “part” opposite Rashida Jones as Celeste. McCormack is in the film as a drug-dealing friend of Celeste’s named “Skillz.”
In an exclusive interview, I sat down with the amicable writing duo for a chat about their first film. We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.
The release of Prometheus, and the film’s success, breathes new life into the 33-year-old Alien franchise. From the beginning, the hallmark of the Alien films has been their jaw dropping surprises. These are the Top 7 scenes that made these movies truly memorable for me. No Avp here people, just pure Alien flicks.
7. “Game over man!” from Aliens (1986)
Recap: Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) returns to Lv-426, the site of her traumatic alien encounter with a ship full of Marines, ready to blast the aliens to smithereens. But their bravado turns to terror after their first alien encounter, leading to Hudson’s (Bill Paxton) infamous “Game over, man!” line.
Reason: If you saw the first movie, you know how this thing will turn out. So there’s a slightly sweet feeling of “I told you so” when these overconfident Marines come face to face...

Trespass
Directed by: Joel Schumacher
Cast: Nicolas Cage, Nicole Kidman, Cam Gigandget
Running Time: 1 hr 35 mins
Rating: R
Release Date: October 14, 2011 (Chicago and VOD)
Plot: A diamond dealer (Cage) and his wife and daughter are taken hostage by a group of thieves (Mendelsohn, Gigandet) who need money for mysterious reasons.
Who’S It For?: If you really like to watch your Nicolas Cage movies with an extra helping of giggles, consider dishing out some dough for Trespass. Of course, if you like like to take movies seriously, don’t bother with this one.
Expectations: Too many odd components to Trespass made this one seem questionable. Why is a movie with Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman getting a near instant On-Demand treatment? And as it is directed by Joel Schumacher, how bad could the former Woody Allen movie costume designer be this time?

Dances with Werewolves!? I am really excited that this movie is being made. I know a lot of people loveDances With Wolves, and I can respect that. We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.
Sometimes, an alien teen has to learn to make his way on Earth. Other times, they have very human problems while still on their home planet. Whether he wants to just fit in or she wants to see the world, alien teens are just like the terrestrial variety. This weekend’s I Am Number Four tries to show us, once again, just how hard it can be to be an alien teen. You have to get good grades in school and run away from a killer trying to track you down. Below are some of my favorites.
7. Lem from Planet 51 (2009)
Recap: Lem (voiced by Justin Long) is just a geeky alien teen trying to get noticed by the girl next door, Neera (voiced by Jessica Biel).Until the day that a strange alien from Earth (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) lands in...

Hitting movie theaters this weekend:
Saw 3D – Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest – (limited) – Michael Nyqvist, Noomi Rapace, Lena Endre
Movie of the Week
Saw 3D
The Stars: Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Betsy Russell
The Plot: As a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw’s brutal legacy, a group of Jigsaw survivors gathers to seek the support of self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen (Flanery), a man whose own dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror.
The Buzz: As Saw 3D is the only wide release of the week, it bags the ’movie of the week’ accolade by default. That kind of sums up the Saw franchise, doesn’t it? We’ve been dealt 7 Saw films in 7 years — insert “seven deadly sins” joke here, followed by the standard “quantity vs. quality” rant. I did enjoy the first film, but that...

HollywoodNews.com: Clay Epstein, VP of Sales & Acquisitions of The Little Film Company announced today that the company’s new label Accelerator will be presenting the World premiere of the Australian thriller The Clinic at this year’s 14th Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival in Korea.
Starring Andy Whitfield, best known to worldwide audiences as Spartacus in Sam Raimi’s “Spartacus: Blood and Sand,” The Clinic is a frighteningly real story inspired by true events that asks just how far will a mother go to save her child?
Written and directed by James Rabbitts, the film also stars Tabrett Bethell, (“Legend of the Seeker”) alongside Whitfield as Beth his pregnant Fiancé who is kidnapped while traveling across country. She wakes alone in an isolated clinic to a mother’s worst nightmare. Her child has been abducted. Trapped and facing an unknown enemy, Beth struggles to piece together the clinic’s deadly secret.

Plot: A suicidal father (Steve Evets) tries to pull his life together with the help of his imaginary friend, real-life soccer legend Eric Cantona.
Who’S It For?: This will please the optimists of the art-house crowd, but even mainstream audiences have the potential to find this movie to be quite enjoyable. Familiarity with Eric Cantona beforehand is not necessary.
Overall
According to soccer player Eric Cantona in his worshipful film, the greatest moment in his sports career “was a pass.” With Looking For Eric, the therapeutic assistance offered by the Yoga Berra of soccer proverbs becomes a guiding light for a man who starts off in drastic darkness (the first scene of the movie has a suicide attempt) and ends...

We have no idea why it’s called Planet 51, or why the pleasantly blobby green humanoid aliens wear no trousers -- jackets and ties or T-shirts for the males, and of course the ladies wear skirts (and have feet shaped like high heels, like Barbie!). We have no idea how cultural convergence allows them to speak English -- except for the proper names, which all sound like “Vernkot” and “Glipforg” -- or to be having their 1950s, complete with malt shops and alien invasion movies, just as a human from Earth arrives among them to terrorize them. It’s not supposed to matter, I suppose. It’s just a kids movie, we’re meant to understand. And it doesn’t matter, I guess. Because Planet 51 isn’t really interested in saying much to its audience, whoever that audience turns out to be. As usual with movies like this,...

Alien Legion looks to be the latest comic book to get the big screen treatment.
Series creator Carl Potts says movement on the story has been gaining traction as writers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt are set to pen a third draft of the script.
Potts also sounded off on who he would like to see involved with the project: “[Jerry] Bruckheimer’s never done a science fiction before, so that challenge, I think, is something that would hold his interest. The success they’ve had with blending CGI and live-action characters in the Pirates Of The Caribbean series could translate easily to an Alien Legion film.”
“Legion is painted on an immense canvas and today’s effects can really carry that off,” said Alien Legion artist and editor Chris Warner. “The themes and characters have a lot of depth and resonance, and ultimately that’s what storytelling is about. Good stories are always good stories.

Californication star David Duchovny has had a lukewarm relationship with the box office. His last feature, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, made a lackluster $10 million on its opening weekend and went on to make a mesely $68.1 million worldwide. If you ask Duchovny, who played the alien-loving Agent Mulder, what went wrong, he might tell you it was because the story was away from the heart of the popular Fox show. You know, cigerett smoking man and stuff?
“As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy,” Duchovny said. ” I think it’s natural for The X-Files to have another movie in 2012, so we’ll see if we get to do it.”

Welcome back for my second week of breaking down all of this weekend's releases and it's only going to improve as I am adding additional features and information each week.
This week the changes include the following: The films are listed in order of current popularity on the site, determined by the number of visits to the dedicated movie pages for each film The MPAA ratings and reasons are listed below the trailers A link to our picture galleries is also now included with a preview of the most recent image added. As always, I toss in my two cents (for what it's worth) as well as a link to my review if I have one posted.
Hope this continues to help you in your weekend movie decision making.

In this incarnation of our Videolog column (which began in 1982 with VHS and Betamax and later laserdisc), Starlog posts information usually (though not always) on Tuesdays regarding selected genre titles being released (or re-released) now on DVD and Blu-ray.
DVD Releases for this week
Alien Trespass (Image, $27.98 DVD; $35.98 Blu-ray): Eric McCormack, Dan Lauria, Robert Patrick and Jenni Baird star in this “lost” B-movie Sf flick directed by R.W. Goodwin about an alien who lands on Earth in pursuit of the monstrous extraterrestrial Ghota that wants to conquers the world!
The Batman Vs. Dracula/The Batman And Superman Movie (Warner, $14.98): Two feature-length films featuring the Dark Knight—one in which he goes up against Bram Stoker’s infamous creature of the night, the other in which he teams up with the Man of Steel.
Cutthroat Island (Lionsgate, $19.99 Blu-ray): Renny Harlin’s colossal flop was one of the biggest money losers of all time.

Sorry this dvd list is coming at you a little later than usual gang, but between fighting with Microsoft about constantly holding my emails in queue and... well that's it actually.
Anyhoo, first on our list of must-see DVDs this week is the 50s spoof flick, Alien Trespass by director R.W. Goodwin. For reasons unknown Image Ent. have given it the "serious" cover you see before you, but rest assured this is definitely a B-movie riff so prepare to giggle.
Alright, moving on we finally have a release of Azazel Jacobs' 2005 existential coming of age film, The Good Times Kid. It has been garnering solid reviews since premiering on the festival circuit and honestly we've been trying to get a screener for ages to no avail. Thank you you beautiful pepole at Benten Films!
Now one for the ladies! Yep, Edward and Bella are back on DVD this week...

If you're going DVD shopping today, there are a few decent choices, however I wouldn't really recommend either I Love You, Man or 17 Again unless you absolutely love Paul Rudd or Zac Efron. Instead, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Oscar-nominated French film The Class, and the indie comedy Gigantic is at least worth a look. Also in stores this week is the '50s sci-fi spoof Alien Trespass, the direct-to-dvd sequel to Road Trip, and a Michael Jackson documentary, plus all four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies on Blu-ray! Will you be spending your hard-earned cash on anything this week? I Love You, Man [1] (DVD, Blu-ray [2]) 17 Again [3] (DVD, Blu-ray [4]) The Class [5] (DVD, Blu-ray [6]) Gigantic [7] Alien Trespass [8] (DVD, Blu-ray [9]) Road Trip: Beer Pong [10] Gooby [11] Almost Heaven [12] The Last Resort [13] Steppin' [14] The Tiger's Tail [15] The Art of War III: Retribution [16] Dark Rising [17] Dead by Dawn 2: The Return [18] Moonwalking: The True Story...

Rob Hunter loves movies. He also loves working as an English teacher at a school for wayward girls in Seoul, South Korea. These two joys come together in the form of cash money payments that he receives every week and immediately uses to buy more DVDs. So join us each week as he takes a look at new DVD releases and gives his highly unqualified opinion as to which titles are worth BUYing, which are better off as RENTals, and which should be AVOIDed at all costs. A quick (and fairly obvious) disclaimer: The main purpose behind this column is to highlight the various new DVD releases each week. The division of the titles into Buy, Rent, or Avoid categories is based on many things... the quality of the movie or show, the quality of the extra features, and the replay value of the content overall. The common thread here is that all of these criteria are...

You know it's a weird week for DVD releases when the cream of the crop includes a couple of Blu-ray reissues, Fifties throwback horror/sci-fi hybrid Alien Trespass (read Creepy's review here), and Bigfoot-inspired The Wild Man of the Navidad, which garnered one of the higher ratings Foy's doled out in quite some time (review here).
Also included toward the end of this week's list are a couple of compilations, Wicked Women, Wicked Things, and Zombies Rule, which are followed by two for the kiddies (or just the kids at heart): The Batman vs. Dracula and a Scooby-Doo double-feature.

Watchmen—Director’S Cut (Warner Bros.) Director Zack Snyder’s film of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ landmark graphic novel is as worthy an adaptation of a great book that has ever been filmed. In an alternative version of the year 1985, Richard Nixon is serving his third term as President and super heroes have been outlawed by a congressional act, in spite of the fact that two of the most high-profile “masks,” Dr. Manhattan (Billy Cruddup) and The Comedian (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) helped the U.S. win the Vietnam War. When The Comedian is found murdered, many former heroes become concerned that a conspiracy is afoot to assassinate retired costumed crime fighters. After a long flight on my part and a far longer drive for both of us, Scott Weinberg and I have finally arrived in Montréal for the FanTasia International Film Festival (their thirteenth, our first). The genre-heavy festival lasts for nearly three weeks; alas, we've but one to spare, so without much further ado, here's a look at what I've seen already and what I hope to see before Scott tips his own hand with a title or two to recommend.
Of the features playing, I can highly recommend Michael Paul Stephenson's Troll 2 doc, Best Worst Movie; the Aussie revenge thriller, The Horseman (not to be confused with the barely-seen Dennis Quaid vehicle, Horsemen); and Paul Solet's beautifully bloody baby horror, Grace. Those looking for something a bit stranger might end up being a bit more fond of Black and The Immaculate Conception of Little Dizzle than I was,...

From the official press release:

Image Entertainment is releasing the Rangeland Production which stars Eric McCormack (Will and Grace, Trust Me), Jenni Baird, Dan Lauria (The Wonder Years) and Robert J. Patrick (The Unit, The Sopranos); Jody Thompson co-stars. The scary-but- fun-for-the-whole-family film will be available for $27.98 Srp (DVD) and $35.98 Srp (Blu-ray).

DVD Links: DVD News | Release Dates | New Dvds | Reviews | RSS Feed Revolutionary Road I'm not exactly excited about any of the selections this week and as anxious as I was to see this movie last year, it ultimately disappointed me. The best way to describe this film would be to say it is just there. I got nothing from it. The book, however, I certainly recommend you read, although, like the film, it too is a bit of a downer, but at least it is brilliantly written. Defiance It is no wonder Paramount Home Video is offering a special deal if you buy Defiance and Revolutionary Road since both films are right there in the luke warm middle of the road. I will give Defiance credit for interesting me just slightly more than Rr, but by the time I was supposed to review it last year I didn't even make the effort.
