Kolchak is trying to finish a reporting assignment so he can go see the Chicago Cubs in the World Series. He, correctly, says the Cubs are in the World Series for the first time in 29 years. The last time the Cubs were in the World Series was 1945, which was 29 years before this episode aired. In reality, the 1974 Chicago Cubs finished last in the National League East Division with a 66-96 record. The Chicago Cubs were absent from the World Series from 1945-2016, when they won the World Series for the first time since1908.

Goofs
In the shot of Kolchak crossing a street and then a plaza between two buildings at night, the film footage has been flipped over (apparently because the director wanted Kolchak to be walking left to right, as opposed to right to left). This is obvious because in the background is a lighted store sign on which all the lettering is backwards, and Kolchak is seen carrying his camera on his "right" shoulder. When the shot changes and he enters an inside doorway, his camera is now seen carried in its usual place on his left shoulder.

UFOs?

Kolchak (Darren McGavin) is witness to a bizarre manifestation when an unseen force decimates a building and causes a cache of lead ingots to vanish into thin air. He soon draws a connection between the disturbance and a series of incidents where both animals and human beings are turning up dead, the marrow mysteriously sucked out of their bones.

We have now seen Jack the Ripper, a man who should have been dead for decades, stalking Chicago. How strange would it be to have UFOs? Not very, in my estimation. And so we have them here, or at least so it seems. What is the connection between the disappearing lead ingots (which fade before our eyes) and the animals whose marrow is stripped from their bones? Not my favorite episode of the series, but still quite enjoyable.
