Pat Hingle makes the first of two appearances on In The Heat Of The Night as
David Hart's stepfather in this episode. Parker Williams, the earnest but a bit thick
Sparta policeman is usually the comic relief as everyone around him shows patient
and gentle exasperation. In this case Hart gets to be quite serious and
quite good.
Hart's the exasperated one here with his stepdad. Hiingle is nobody's idea of a parental role model with his drinking and brawling and womanizing. But he's accused of murdering his latest boss after being fired and he looks real good for it given his reputation.
There's a nice chase scene at the end involving one of those monster trucks and Hart turns out to be a resourceful hero.
Good episode with David Hart taking center stage.
