The idea for this episode was inspired by the fact that Mike Berry, who played Bert Spooner, was actually a chart topping singer of the early sixties. With his band, Outlaws, he had hits with 'Don't You Think it's Time' and 'Tribute to Buddy Holly'.

Goodbye to Grace Brothers

While nobody can take away from the fact that 'Are You Being Served?' is one of the best sitcoms the UK has ever produced, equally I don't think it can be denied that it simply went on too long, and instead of telling stories about things that realistically could happen in a department store, instead wrote stories about things that might happen in a sort of fantasy department store.

Yes, the big changes in cast didn't help, with the replacements never really being as good.

This episode is a good example of what the show became at the end. It's full of nice little moments, and some good jokes, but it's all been done far better before.

I prefer to remember the show at its best
