The Japan rugby union team on Sunday thrashed tournament newcomers Chile 42-12 on the first weekend of the freshly kicked-off Rugby World Cup. But in 2015, Japan were the underdogs and yet pulled off a surprise result against rugby titans South Africa.

In the first ever match between the two nations Japan won 34-32, due to an 80th minute try.

“The Brighton Miracle,” a docu-drama capturing and re-constructing that shock match, has been picked up by Blue Sky Media. The film was produced by Syn Entertainment and the rights outside of Japan were brokered by producer’s rep Summer & Co.

The film was written and directed by Max Mannix. Mannix, himself a former professional rugby player, lived more than a decade in Japan and wrote the Kurosawa Kiyoshi-directed “Tokyo Sonata,” which debuted in Cannes Un Certain Regard in 2008.

August isn't especially famous for its great movies. As months go, the eighth one on the calendar has often been a bit of a wasteland for Hollywood, as blockbusters peter off, kids have a lot less free time and money, and studio executives need to find somewhere to dump their proverbial dead bodies.

If you want a good example, you can pretty much throw a dart at any year after "Jaws" popularized the concept of summer blockbuster season. For example, let's take a look at 1993. 30 years ago, August was a month for dreck comedies like "Son of the Pink Panther," family film misfires like "Father Hood" and "Surf Ninjas," and the weird-ass "Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday."

The month of February ended with a number of newer Netflix releases dominating its weekly Top 10. Christopher Landon‘s horror film “We Have a Ghost,” starring David Harbour and Anthony Mackie, remained the #1 movie with 42.6 million hours viewed, placing in the Top 10 in 93 countries. Nathaniel Martello-White‘s thriller “The Strays” remained in second place with 14.6 million views, while two action movies that bombed in theaters — 2007’s “The Condemned” (starring Jason Statham and Vinnie Jones) and 2013’s “R.I.P.D.” (starring Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds) — entered the Top 10 in third and fourth place. “R.I.P.D.” was actually tied with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence’s 2020 hit, “Bad Boys For Life,” with 8.3 million views.

The Pogues ruled the Netflix English-language TV charts once again. Outer Banks Season 3 reigned over the Top 10 for the second week in a row from February 27 to March 5.

The third installment racked up another 99M hours viewed, in addition 154.97M that it tallied last week. Seasons 1 and 2 also remained in the Top 10 with 34M hours viewed and 27.7M hours viewed, respectively.

While it didn’t make it into the global Top 10, Chris Rock‘s latest comedy special, Selective Outrage, ranked No. 7 in the U.S. among TV shows for the week, according to Netflix. Since the special debuted on Saturday evening, it was only available for about one day of the measurement window. So it’s not entirely unsurprising that it wouldn’t make it into the overall Top 10 shows.

The special was only available in English over the weekend and recently began rolling out in different languages.

Sylvester Stallone recruited many action stars for his financially successful The Expendables franchise. WWE megastar Stone Cold Steve Austin would eventually find himself pitted against Stallone in the first movie.

But when a sequence in the film led to Austin accidentally breaking Stallone’s neck, Austin might have panicked more than anyone.

Austin wasn’t exactly new to acting when he joined The Expendables. By then, he’d already had starring roles in features like The Condemned and Damage. But Expendables was one of the biggest films Austin ever participated in at the time. It saw the former WWE champion working alongside Stallone for the first time, who he had nothing but respect for.

“He knows action movies and he knows the product that he’s out to deliver,” Austin once said in an interview with Reel Rave.

It’s summer, everyone! And with its relatively sparse list of new releases for July 2021, Hulu seems to be subtlety imploring its subscribers to go outside.

Don’t get us wrong: Hulu’s library offerings get a big upgrade this month. July 1 sees the arrival of great films like Galaxy Quest, Fargo, and Caddyshack. Bill and Ted Face the Music premieres on July 2 and its followed by Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar on July 9. Not bad stuff! Debut feature from the production company is crime drama ‘The Big Ugly’.

UK actor Vinnie Jones has launched 4G Vision, a new $100m production company with Us writer-director Scott Wiper.

The two are working with co-producer Michael Downey and Michigan-based entrepreneur Gregg Gibson Williams, who provides the four G’s in 4G Vision and the financing.

The company’s first project is Wiper’s crime drama The Big Ugly starring Jones, which is set for theatrical and VOD release in the UK and Us through Vertical Entertainment on July 24 and July 31 respectively.

Vertical Entertainment has acquired the North American and UK distribution rights to action thriller The Big Ugly starring Vinnie Jones, Ron Perlman, and Malcolm McDowell. The film is written, directed, and produced by Scott Wiper (The Condemned) with Vinnie Jones also serving as producer. Also starring Nicholas Braun, Leven Rambin, Bruce McGill (Lincoln, National Lampoon’s Animal House), Lenora Crichlow and Joelle Carter. May isn’t quite summer yet but it is usually time that the networks start wrapping up their newest shows and preparing for a relatively fallow summer period. Since HBO isn’t a network, it has no such business model. But May sees the winding down of some HBO blockbusters all the same.

While there are some notable new releases for HBO in May 2020, the bigger story might be the things that are ending. Westworld concludes its third season on May 3 while new series Run wraps up on May 24. Thankfully the film losses in May aren’t too bad for HBO, unless the Agent Cody Banks saga drives a lot of traffic.

The most notable TV premiere in May is I Know This Much is True, a book adaptation starring Mark Ruffalo. This is a very bleak story coming along at a bleak time in history but perhaps those two things will cancel out.

A few months back there was some controversy in the horror community when, succumbing to political pressure, Blumhouse cancelled the release of their production The Hunt – which was, essentially, yet another hunting humans film a lal The Most Dangerous Game. Yet whilst Blumhouse cancelled their release, High Octane Pictures went ahead and released American Hunt, a film that features the same hunting humans motif but has less political inclinations.

Of course that’s not to say this film doesn’t have anything to say on the state of society, in fact it says a lot about the divide be the haves and have-nots, the rich and the poor, it’s just that American Hunt can be swept under the carpet by mainstream horror outlets as another low budget direct to market title or,...

With the hugely-anticipated Resident Evil 3 remake’s recent official announcement, along with the rumoured development of another beloved survival-horror property, Dino Crisis, it’s fair to say that Capcom’s undead momentum is beginning to fire on all cylinders.

Of course, the remake that really started the ball rolling, though, has to be 2019’s incredible Resident Evil 2, which has certainly set the bar very high for those aforementioned upcoming titles.

Interestingly, in a recent roundtable discussion, the developers behind last year’s remake discussed some of the scrapped concepts that didn’t quite make it into the final build of the game. And aside from creepy new jump-scare enemies, dubbed “the Condemned”, the team also had plans to introduce a new driving sequence, as well as a unique gameplay section involving cable cars.

Assassins aren’t known for their longevity, but Amazon is betting Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn's upcoming series, Too Old to Die Young, might stick around for a while. They ordered ten episodes and cast Fantastic Four star Miles Teller as Martin, a grieving cop who goes bad.

The Too Old to Die Young series is set in the criminal underworld of Los Angeles, where a society of assassins holds court. It was written by Refn and comic book writer Ed Brubaker, with Refn directing every episode himself. Refn wrote and directed Valhalla Rising, directed Drive, and worked on the films The Neon Demon and Only God Forgives.

Like The Marine franchise, which featured a new WWE superstar in the lead role in each consecutive film, The Condemned 2 sees Randy Orton (who also took over the lead from John Cena for 12 Rounds 2) stars as bounty hunter turned hunted man, Will Tanner; and – like Orton’s 12 Rounds 2 – this film pales in comparison to the original, abandoning everything that made that Running Man-esque action film so much fun.

The Condemned was one of WWE Studios earliest – and best received – movies, alongside The Marine and See No Evil. And whilst those two films have already had sequels, it’s taken almost ten years for someone to put together a sequel to the Stone Cold Steve Austin starring original.

I'm going to be honest here, wrestling just isn't what it used to be. I watched it all the time when I was younger, but over the last decade or so, haven't been able to get into it very much. For me, the highest point of the entertainment sport was the "Attitude" era, where The Rock and Stone Cold were prominent players along with other memorable wrestlers. So today's announcement that Stone Cold is on the cover of the new WWE 2K game, has me pretty giddy.

I'm obsessed with big and moody Russian blockbusters and Calculator, starring Vinnie Jones (The Condemned), seems like the next one to watch out for.

Produced by Fyodor Bondarchuk, who directed the spectacular 2-part science fiction film Inhabited Island (of which there is still no domestic blu-ray!), Calculator looks to deliver the same exceptional visuals and epic storytelling.

Synopsis:

Set in the far future the story follows a group of ten prisoners sentenced into exile on a remote planet as they turn against one another.

The film looks pretty stellar considering it's reported to have been made for a mere $2 million.

Despite that enthusiastic headline, the flipside of Randy Orton's triumphant return to fan favorite last night – which concluded with his bloody head being curb-stomped into the dreaded steel stairs – all but sealed some time on the shelf so he can film The Condemned 2. But hey, if Dean Ambrose can come back from hiatus after shooting Lockdown/getting storyline-sidelined after an Authority beat-down, Randy should be able to milk the most out of returning in several weeks time.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves or dabble entirely in speculation.

The film grossed $81 million worldwide on a budget of $12 million. Apparently that was good enough for the studio, because it's now moving forward with a sequel, which will focus on an elite Swat officers. Made on a budget of $12 million, and acquired for $13 million, the film went on to not only open at number one back in February of 2012, but also gross $70 million domestically at the box office. Relativity Media is moving forward with a sequel to the Bandito Brothers’ breakout hit action thriller tentatively titled Act of Valor 2.

According to Deadline, Relativity has acquired the worldwide rights to finance, produce and distribute Act of Valor 2. The sequel that will focus on elite Swat officers that will be written and directed by Scott Wiper (The Condemned) with the Bandito Brothers returning to produce. Last year, Relativity Television announced it would produce a scripted drama series based on the original film in collaboration with the Bandito Brothers but it’s still in development.

Chennai, July 4: Australian wrestler Nathan Jones will lock horns with Tamil actor Jayam Ravi here July 12 for upcoming Tamil thriller "Bhoologam". The film's director is confident that this fight sequence will be the highlight of the project.

Lionsgate and WWE Studios officially announced plans to work together on a Leprechaun reboot in March, 2012. It was pretty quickly revealed that Dylan “Hornswoggle” Postl would star and Harris Wilkinson was hired to write the script. It now looks like the project is set to go into production soon, as a director has been hired.

According to The Wrap, Zach Lipovsky will direct the reboot that was previously described as a darker and more serious version that the previous installments:

“The tone is going to be a little darker, a little more traditional horror than the Warwick Davis ones that people remember, trying to find a way to please fans of that genre but at the same time this is really being played for scares.”

It’s been about six month since we’ve heard anything about the upcoming Leprechaun reboot from WWE and Lionsgate. It previously announced that Dylan Postl (Hornswoggle) would be replacing Warwick Davis and we have some new information from a recent interview with WWE Studios president Michael Luisi.

While speaking with Crave, Luisi mentioned that this movie will not take any existing elements from the original films and the plan is for a darker and scarier film than the original: “The tone is going to be a little darker, a little more traditional horror than the Warwick Davis ones that people remember, trying to find a way to please fans of that genre but at the same time this is really being played for scares.”

Back in March, Lionsgate and WWE Studios announced that they were teaming up for a reboot of Leprechaun, with WWE star Dylan Postl (Hornswoggle) replacing Warwick Davis. The project continues to move forward and it has been revealed that a writer has been hired.

Harris Wilkinson will be writing the new Leprechaun script, according to Deadline. His previous work includes a spec script titled Ink, that was purchased by Paramount, and Fox TV pilot with Len Wiseman.

The new movie has been referred to as Leprechaun: Origins, but that may just be a working title. The project is still in the early development stages, as a director has still not been announced and the movie is not expected to be released until sometime in 2013. Earlier this month, it was revealed that Lionsgate and WWE Studios were teaming up for a reboot of Leprechaun. We now know who will be playing the title character. Replacing Warwick Davis is WWE star Dylan Postl, who is better known as Hornswoggle.

He recently took to his Twitter page to announce the casting, title, and release month: “The #swogglesecret that I’ve been hinting at all week is that in March 2013 I will be starring in Leprechaun:Origins by WWE Studios!!!”

The target release month is still quite a bit away, but we’ll keep an eye out for additional casting announcements over the coming months. Released in 1993 and starring a then unknown Jennifer Aniston, the horror movie Leprechaun was a surprising hit and spawned five sequels where the title character (played by Warwick Davis) wrecked havoc and cracked wise in such locations as Las Vegas, space, and “the hood.. Although definitely outshined by other horror franchises, the Leprechaun series is a cheesy guilty pleasure for a lot of people and does have its fans, one that Lionsgate is hoping to lure in.

Lockout Trailer. James Mather, Stephen St. Leger‘s Lockout (2012) international movie trailer stars Guy Pearce, Maggie Grace, Peter Stormare, Lennie James, and Vincent Regan. Guy Pearce’s character does not give a damn in this movie trailer and its hilarious, almost as good Steve Austin‘s questioning scene in The Condemned. That what happens when you feel betrayed by your own country then they come back to you for a favor.

On another note, the montage at the end of this trailer is shabby, badly done.
