- TriviaThe original title is taken from a gag of the De Rege brothers, a couple of Italian stage actors active between the 1920s and the 1940s. Most of the movie gags are indeed typical of the avanspettacolo, the theatrical genre of the De Rege brothers.

Perhaps (but i can think this for sure) this is the funniest comedy ever made, not only in Italy. I can tell this, having seen dozens of comedies from all over the world (and "Vieni avanti cretino" ranks far better than such hits as "Clerks" or "Dumb & Dumber", which i've really appreciated). The story itself is quite simple but the characters (especially Pasquale Baudaffi - i.e. Lino Banfi) make this an unmissable film. The scenes it is composed of, have been re-played in various situations and often they are a significant part of every comic-actor baggage. As i said, the best characterization is the one by Lino Banfi, but Gigi Reder (the famous "Rag. Filini" from the Fantozzi saga) is almost as astonishing as Banfi. There is also a small role played by the unforgettable Moana Pozzi (the best female porn-star of all times) plus the addition of various Italian sexy-stars of the 80's (Michela Miti above all). Explaining this films with few words would be as difficult as summarizing the entire Divine Comedy ("Vieni avanti, cretino!" could be considered the Divine Comedy of the comedy films, indeed :) in two lines. Perhaps an English translation of the incredible dialogues could turn in a loss of efficacy, but that should be overwhelmed by the strong pathos which any actor casts in his/her role. Strongly recommended (with particular regards for the dentist scene and also for the Coliseum scene, not to mention the breathtaking scene of the famous "Dr. Thomas"!!!)
