The United Lutheran Church provided the show free of charge to any station willing to air it. The shows in the series were aired without commercial interruption.
The theme song used for this show is the hymn "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God", written by Martin Luther in 1529.
When the series was continued in the 70's the opening music changed to more of a 70's style funk intro. When all episodes were shown in syndication on religious stations the 70's intro was used over the earlier seasons intro.
When the series was continued in the 1970's, all of the characters continued wearing their more conservative early 60's hairstyles and clothing. The animators refused to give Jonathan an Afro or give Davey longer hair which was now in style for men.
To avoid limiting the appeal of the series, the writers deliberately didn't use certain words, such as "Lutheran" or "Jesus," in the dialog.
