Ronald Reagan was known as the Law and Order president due in part to this film.
Frame Johnson mentions wanting to live to be an old man. With the exception of Wally Cassell, who lived to age 103, Ronald Reagan lived to an older age (93) than the rest of the male actors.
The film takes place in 1882.
Adapted from the W. R. Burnett novel, " Saint Johnson." Was previously filmed in 1932 with Walter Huston as Frame Johnson and co-starring Harry Carey and Raymond Hatton. Frame Johnson was loosely based on Wyatt Earp.
Even though another actor/future governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is better known for the line, Frame Johnson says "I'll be back" as he is leaving the office with Jeannie.
