Paramount+ Releases “Frasier” Season 2 Trailer

He’s listening: Paramount+ has debuted the official trailer for the upcoming second season of its original comedy series “Frasier,” its revival of the original record-setting series.

Filmed in front of a live studio audience at Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, “Frasier” sees Kelsey Grammer return as Dr. Frasier Crane in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston “to face new challenges, forge new relationships and—with hope—finally fulfill an old dream or two.” In Season 2, Crane will return to his radio roots as he visits Seattle. Original series stars Peri Gilpin, Dan Butler, Edward Hibbert, and Harriet Sansom Harris will all appear as guests in the new season with other previously announced guest stars Rachel Bloom, Yvette Nicole Brown, Greer Grammer, Patricia Heaton, and Amy Sedaris.

Peter Capaldi and Cush Jumbo first met onscreen in the poweful, haunting third series of Torchwood: Children Of Earth, which remains one of the most chilling stories ever connected to Doctor Who.

Criminal Record, which premiered on Apple TV+ last year, followed Jumbo and Capaldi as June Lenker and Daniel Hegarty, two police officers who clash violently over their opposing approaches to police work, as an anonymous phone call draws them both into an old murder case.

The thriller, created and written by Paul Rutman, will continue seeing Capaldi’s Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Hegarty and Jumbo’s Detective Sergeant June Lenker as they clash again in a complex murder investigation.

In its sophomore season, Jumbo’s June Lenker is set as the senior officer on the scene when far-right counter-protesters attack a political rally. The clash leaves a young man dead, which consumes June with guilt and drives her to bring the unknown killer to justice.

June’s best hope in finding the killer is Daniel Hegarty, who is now a key figure in the shadowy world of police intelligence. He may have the answers she needs, but to get his help, she will have to accept a dangerous bargain.

Six months after its freshman season ended, we now have a verdict about Criminal Record‘s fate: The crime thriller will be back for Season 2 at Apple TV+, TVLine has learned.

Series star Cush Jumbo appeared to break the renewal news back in February during an episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, where she answered, “There will be, yeah,” when asked if there would be a second season. At the time, however, an Apple rep told TVLine that Criminal Record had yet to be formally picked up.

In eight-part crime thriller Criminal Record, Peter Capaldi’s Dci accuses Cush Jumbo’s DS of unconscious bias. Has she – a woman of colour – automatically believed a tip-off about a West African-British prisoner’s wrongful conviction because she’s primed to see racist conspiracy everywhere? Or is Jumbo’s character simply seeing racist conspiracy because she’s looking right at it?

That mystery is at the centre of this new drama from the makers of ITV’s Vera. Two episodes of writer Paul Rutman’s series are out now on Apple TV+, with the rest to follow weekly on Wednesdays until February 21. Has Jumbo’s DS Lenker stumbled on a corrupt ring of racist cops led by Capaldi’s Dci Dan Hegarty, or is she putting two and two together to make five?

Your take on the ‘Is Hegarty a baddie?...

It is certainly not the case that every lackluster show title reflects a lackluster show. For every tepid Suspicion there’s a zippy Hijack, for every drab Liaison a gorgeous Foundation — and that’s just on Apple TV+. But an uninspired name can feel, in retrospect, like an early warning sign.

So it is with the streamer’s Criminal Record, not to be confused with Criminal Minds or Criminal: UK or Law & Order: Criminal Intent. The thriller has its merits, chief among them Cush Jumbo and Peter Capaldi as a pair of rival cops. But a tendency to prioritize themes over characters, combined with languid pacing and a too-measured tone, ultimately results in too little payoff for the time it demands.

The main action takes place in Freud’s London office just as World War II is beginning for England, as he reluctantly keeps an appointment with academic C.S. Lewis (Matthew Goode), who in the future will be a famous theologian and creator for the Chronicles of Narnia. As the radio gives news of impending attacks, the two philosophers debate the existence of God and what life means. Freud in the meantime reveals that he is dying of oral cancer, which escalates the discussion to a new level.

”Freud’s Last Session” expands wider in theaters on January 5th.

Deadline’s Read the Screenplay series spotlighting the year’s most talked-about scripts continues with Freud’s Last Session, which Sony Pictures Classics pre-bought after teaming with star Anthony Hopkins to release his Oscar-winning turn in The Father.

The film had its world premiere at AFI Fest and hits U.S. theaters December 22.

Freud’s Last Session began as a play by Mark St. Germain, who adapted the script for the feature with director Matt Brown. The premise originally came to St. Germain after reading Harvard psychiatrist Armand Nicholi’s book The Question of God (later a PBS series), which compared Sigmund Freud’s and C.S. Lewis’ thoughts on faith and human nature based on their collective scholarship and letters.

An imagined conversation between two eminent historical figures who may or may not have ever met — nobody seems to know — forms the heart of Freud’s Last Session, an intellectual fable from Sony Pictures Classics that grew out of a play and, before that, a book and an Ivy League seminar.

Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins plays the inventor of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud, opposite Matthew Goode as the celebrated author and theologian C.S. Lewis in a cerebral clash of titans. But as co-writer and director Matthew Brown said on Deadline’s Contenders Film: Los Angeles panel, the movie version as he envisioned it almost didn’t happen.

“I mean you always dream that you would have an actor like Hopkins say he would do the role,” Brown said. “And we did try once and we didn’t get very far. And then we did some more work on the script and tried again.

Bigger and longer are not always better. Case in point: Freud’s Last Session, the lavish film based on a modest off-Broadway play that captivated theater audiences a decade ago. Playwright Mark St. Germain worked with director Matthew Brown (The Man Who Knew Infinity) to reshape his two-character drama about an imaginary conversation between Sigmund Freud and C.S. Lewis as they debate the existence of God. That provocative exchange is still in the movie, and it sometimes crackles, thanks to the performances of Matthew Goode as Lewis and, especially, Anthony Hopkins as Freud. But the heart of the story is constantly undermined by a surfeit of asides about Lewis’ experiences in the First World War, Freud’s highly charged relationship with his daughter Anna, and several other subplots.

On the day of the “Only Murders in the Building” Season 3 finale, Hulu, quick as a whip, has picked up the hit Hulu whodunit for a fourth season.

The comedy series stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez as a trio of true-crime podcast fans who, after a suspicious death in their Upper West Side apartment building, become friends and amateur detectives.

“Freud’s Last Session” is set on the eve of the Second World War, when at the end of his life, Freud (Hopkins) invites “The Chronicles of Narnia” author C.S. Lewis (Goode) to debate the existence of God. Interweaving past, present and fantasy, the film explores Freud’s unique relationship with his daughter Anna (Liv Lisa Fries), and Lewis’ unconventional relationship with his best friend’s mother.

Westend Films has released the first image of Anthony Hopkins and Matthew Goode in Freud’s Last Session, as the legendary psychoanalyst Sigmund Freud and writer and academic C.S. Lewis, prior to his Chronicles Of Narnia fame.

Filming is in its final stages in Ireland.

Set on the eve of the Second World War, the film revolves around a meeting between Freud and Lewis, at the psychoanalyst’s London home, during which they debate the existence of God.

The film also explores Freud’s unique relationship with his daughter Anna, played by Liv Lisa Fries and Lewis’ unconventional relationship with his best friend’s mother.

The film is directed by Matthew Brown (The Man Who Knew Infinity) and was written by Mark St. Germain (The God Committee) with revisions by Brown, based on the play of the same name.

Focus Features has pushed back the release of “Downton Abbey: A New Era” two months and the sequel will now be released on May 20, the company announced Wednesday.

The sequel was previously scheduled for release on March 18. The film will be released in the U.K. by Universal on April 29.

While plot details for the film have been sparse, writer Julian Fellowes told People that Lady Mary continues to run Downton as the mother of the next Earl of Grantham.

“As we know from the last film, Mary may not be the titular head of the household, but she is effectively running the show. We take that further,” Fellowes said. “We’re trying to mark the change — the fact that Crawleys of Downton are nearly in the 1930s, which is merely the beginning of the modern world.”

Exclusive: ITV has set the cast for its upcoming adaptation of Sara Collins’ period drama The Confessions of Frannie Langton.

Karla-Simone Spence, who starred in Paramount Pictures’ feature Blue Story as well as BBC series Wannabe and Gold Digger, leads the cast as Frannie Langton.

Langton is the young protagonist born into a life of slavery who is fighting to tell her own story.

She is joined by Sophie Cookson, who has starred in Kingsman: The Secret Service and The Trial of Christine Keeler, and Patrick Martins, who has starred in Blasts From The Past and Redemption.

Cookson plays Madame Marguerite Benham and Martins stars as Laddie Lightning in the murder mystery.
