More than a decade ago, Jeremy Renner made his debut as Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe through a minor role in 2011’s Thor, and fans have been convinced to the core ever since that no one could embody the character better than him. And rightfully so, for no other actor could be better cast in the fan-favorite role than him.

As it turns out, Renner feels in a similar way. While his iconic role is one that he eventually got around to and fell in love with, the actor also feels that he wouldn’t have found other actors as relatable as he did Clint Barton. To say the least, he wouldn’t have said yes at all had the role he had been offered to play was a different one—especially if it was Thor!

This has been a month of crazy comic book moments. The X-Men find a mutant whose gift didn’t register until he was an adult (X-Men No. 2 by Jed MacKay). Magnus runs away instead of fighting with his Autobot teammates (Transformers No. 11 by Daniel Warren Johnson). And during Gotham City Sirens No. 2 by Leah WIlliams, Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman are captured by Punchline.
Those are only the quick hits. Coming up are the five most important comic book moments of the week.

One of the greatest moments in the MCU between Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Josh Brolin’s Thanos takes a weird turn in this AI-created video. It could be a triggering video for many Thor fans who will be forever scarred by one scene. The video emulates the scene where Thor is trying to stop Thanos from snapping his fingers in Avengers: Infinity War.

In a disgusting twist, instead of pushing Stormbreaker deep into Thanos’ chest, Thor leans forward to kiss the dangerous villain. The video is clearly meant as a joke, but fans fear that AI could easily ruin more such crucial moments from not just the MCU but also other major films.

With not one but two Avengers movies on the horizon, things are about to get pretty intense in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They've already gotten pretty intense recently now that Deadpool and Wolverine are a part of the franchise, but with the end of the Multiverse Saga in sight, big plans are in the works and fans are excited to see them come to fruition.
It doesn't get bigger than Avengers movies. And Marvel is already pulling out all the stops, bringing back the one and only Robert Downey Jr. to portray the new MCU villain Doctor Doom. He won't be the only comeback, either, as fans are anticipating a huge multiversal showdown with plenty of beloved returnees.
Multiple new reports have suggested that another one of the most beloved actors will be back too.

Spoiler Alert: This article discusses plot points in “Alien: Romulus,” now playing in theaters.
Expectations are high for horror fans eager to see “Alien: Romulus,” the seventh chapter in the iconic sci-fi franchise. It’s directed by Fede Álvarez, who helmed two blood-splattered modern horror classics: The 2013 “Evil Dead” remake and 2016’s “Don’t Breathe.” It’s set between the first two films in the series — 1979’s “Alien” and 1986’s “Aliens” — which are both considered cornerstones of the genre. Amazingly, it’s also the first feature of one of the film’s stars, Aileen Wu. In the film, Wu plays Navarro, a spaceship pilot who has some very close encounters with the aliens. Wu is a student of the craft, having attended both NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and the Stella Adler Studio of Acting, but admits this experience had many large-scale, surreal moments. Marvel may have made the bold decision to cast Robert Downey Jr. as the new Doctor Doom in the cinematic universe after his tremendous run as the Iron Man who ‘had a heart’, but the reception his Doom would receive remains as uncertain as ever. One of the reasons behind this, of course, is his tragic transition from a fan-beloved superhero role into a supervillain one.

But that’s not all. As fans already know, Doom is one of the most vicious villains in the history of the MCU, and the perfect example of this is depicted in Fortnite with utmost accuracy. That said, if Downey Jr. decides to replicate all the horrors that his big baddie does to the Fantastic Four and other heroes in the game, then fans might as well be in for an ugly cry in the theatres.

Deadpool & Wolverine is officially the highest-grossing R-rated film ever. The Deadpool sequel generated $1.086 billion globally, defeating 2019’s Joker, which reached $1.078 billion at the time.
The new accomplishment for the film starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman comes after the Marvel film earned $211 million domestically during its opening weekend, becoming the sixth-biggest opening of all time. Since then, it has earned an additional $516 million in North America, and $568 internationally, according to Variety.

Marvel star Jeremy Renner made his mark on the cinematic comic book universe as Hawkeye. Avengers saw him teaming up with several superheroes, but there was one he worked alongside with that he couldn’t relate to. So much so that if he was offered the character, he would’ve passed on him without hesitation.

It didn’t take long for Renner to sign with Marvel after he was approached for the role. The studio already built up some good will with Renner thanks to 2008’s Iron Man. Though he knew little about the character, he assumed that the superhero archer would be handled similarly.
“I remember going in to talk with [Marvel Studios president] Kevin Feige and [Marvel Studios co-president] Lou D’Esposito, and they’d show me the Ultimates version of Hawkeye. Iron Man had come out, and I said,...

The Hulk and Wolverine have a famously turbulent relationship in Marvel’s comics, shifting from allies to adversaries countless times. Both are iconic and beloved figures in the comic book world, with the Hulk typically standing alone, often linked to the Avengers, while Wolverine is deeply connected to the X-Men as one of their most famous members. Though both characters have made their way to the big screen, they have yet to face off—largely due to various copyright issues. However, with the X-Men now entering the MCU, a crossover seems more possible than ever.
Fans are less interested in a Hulk and Wolverine team-up and far more eager to see them clash in an epic battle, ideally with Hugh Jackman and Mark Ruffalo reprising their roles. While there’s no official confirmation yet, rumors suggest such a showdown could be in the works. But what many fans don’t...

Even if you’re not a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), its significance in modern cinema is undeniable. This massive, interconnected project continues to thrive, despite recent box office challenges that have concerned some fans. However, with the release of Deadpool & Wolverine, things seem to be looking up, which inspired us to compile this list.
Deadpool & Wolverine is packed with Marvel cameos, prompting us to revisit the MCU’s history of cameo appearances. We’ve ranked the 10 best cameos as of this film, detailing which movie each cameo appeared in and explaining why it deserves a spot on this epic list.
10. Sam Neill, Luke Hemsworth, and Matt Damon as Odin, Thor, and Loki (respectively)
This scene was fantastic. Three talented actors came together to portray fictional versions of the Asgardians in a play designed solely to entertain Loki, who was disguised as Odin, indulging in his own satisfaction.

Taylor-Johnson leads the long-awaited “Kraven” standalone film as the titular character. The “Thor” alum Crowe (he played Zeus) has made his thoughts on superhero franchises known, but that didn’t stop him from doing “Kraven the Hunter.” The feature continues the Sony-Marvel partnership after “Madame Web,” which was also set in the “Spider-Man”-universe as a prequel film. Whether you’re not a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), you cannot deny its importance for modern cinema. This largest single-narrative project of all time is still going strong, despite the fact that the majority of its most recent outings have not been that successful at the box office, which certainly had some fans worried. But, with Deadpool & Wolverine coming out, the situation seems to be improving, and this is what actually motivated us to write up this list.
Namely, as you will probably know, Deadpool & Wolverine is filled with numerous Marvel cameos, and in light of that fact, we have decided to revisit the history of the MCU’s cameo appearances and list the 10 best ones, ranked, of course, as of Deadpool & Wolverine. We are going to tell you in which movie the cameo happened and why we think it deserves to be on this epic list of cameos.

Nine years years ago, we heard that Ant-Man co-writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari had joined a writers room that was put together to develop an animated Transformers project called Transformers One, which “would take place on the Autobots and Decepticon’s home planet of Cybertron.” Eventually, Toy Story 4 director Josh Cooley signed on to take the helm of the film. Now that movie is set to make its way out into the world, with Paramount Pictures scheduling a September 20th theatrical release – and the Motion Picture Association ratings board has revealed that they’ve given the movie a PG rating for sci-fi violence and animated action throughout, and language.
Cooley directed the film from a screenplay written by Barrer, Ferrari, and Eric Pearson, whose credits include Thor: Ragnarok and Godzilla vs. Kong. The animated movie tells the “long-awaited origin story of how the most iconic characters in the Transformers universe,...

Fantastic Four: First Steps is an upcoming movie set to be released in 2025. While we will get to see a bunch of new heroes in the MCU, fans are also excited about Galactus, who was in Fortnite a few years ago. The big cosmic entity is apparently the main antagonist of the upcoming movie.
Although we see variants of most Marvel characters scattered throughout the multiverse, new information has surfaced insinuating that there is only one Galactus in the entire universe, meaning even the game’s Galactus will be no different from the one in the MCU.

Nicolas Cage has always had a soft spot for devils and tragedies. The actor’s work has always veered far from the mainstream Hollywood recipe, often encroaching into territories that, for the lack of a better word, can only be labeled as weird. Ironically, Cage built a reputation out of his eccentricities, making his roles work out spectacularly in his favor.

Secret Invasion introduced audiences of the MCU to The Harvest, which had the Skrull going through the battlefield where Thanos fought he Avengers in Avengers: Endgame. Their objective was to collect DNA samples from all the enhanced beings that had spilled blood in the battle, be it Captain America, Captain Marvel, the Black Order, Black Panther, or Thor.

A theory on Reddit suggests that Captain America: Brave New World might carry over some plot points from Secret Invasion, specifically how Red Hulk was created. It is expected that the character will have a different origin story, and could reasonably be a Skrull agent, hearkening back to the ‘New World Order’ subtitle that was scrapped.

What a week it's been in comic books. The Power Fantasy No. 1 by Kieron Gillen with art by Caspar Wijngaard was a reminder to read comic books from Image Comics, Daredevil No. 12 by Saladin Ahmed continued to show a side of Daredevil we’re still not used to seeing, andI can’t forget Absolute Power No. 2, during which Amanda Waller and Brainiac Queen did something that even Superman can’t forgive.
This week, these 10 new titles are also must-reads. But that doesn't mean we can't make some time for a classic pick too.
As always, let’s start with the pick of the week.

Marvel’s Thunderbolts will be released sometime in 2025 and is set to be one of the many films that’ll push the overall franchise over to the next phase. Headlined by Sebastian Stan, the movie features a star-studded cast and will see the comeback of several characters, such as Red Guardian and Taskmaster.
Thunderbolts | Marvel Studios
Among the montage of actors present in the cast is also Geraldine Vishwanathan, who will be playing the minor role of Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s assistant, a character set to be portrayed by the utterly talented Julia Louis-Dreyfus.
According to Vishwanathan, the MCU is now, finally set to take on a riskier, darker form, something Thunderbolts is set to play a major role in. The same has been confirmed by Geraldine Viswanathan in a recent interview.

God of War Ragnarok is the latest first-party exclusive of PlayStation Studios that will grace the PC platform, and the gaming community is equally enthusiastic and skeptical about this new initiative. Recent controversies caused a major strain between the player base and the gaming company and things will likely get worse before it gets better.
Fans anticipated this game to be ported after the first was a massive success and the publisher’s ambition to gain more coverage on the PC landscape. However, previous efforts were not well-received by fans after the requirement to link a PlayStation Network account to Steam.

A superhero, sometimes spelled “super hero” or “super-hero,” is a fictional character known for their extraordinary physical abilities and commitment to heroic deeds for the greater good. The term “superheroine” is often used for female superheroes. While most superheroes have some form of superhuman strength, it’s not a strict requirement for the label.
Superheroes have long been associated with muscular, well-defined physiques, a standard established in the early days of comic books. Actors who portray these characters often conform to this muscular ideal, inadvertently setting a certain appearance standard for their fans.
Recently, a fan expressed concern online about this issue, criticizing superhero movie stars for promoting an unrealistic and potentially unhealthy body image. They argue that this practice is problematic and should be addressed, particularly because it differs from how female models are treated.

A superhero (alternatively spelled “super hero” or “super-hero”) is always a fictional character “of unprecedented physical prowess dedicated to acts of derring-do in the public interest.” A female superhero is sometimes called a “superheroine.” By most standards, a character needs not to possess actual superhuman powers to be deemed a superhero, but that is not a precisely defined rule.
Superheros are extremely popular, and since most of them possess at least some degree of superhuman strength, their bodies are often bulked up and full of muscles, which is a standard set in the early days of comic books. Of course, the actors portraying these characters also have to present such bodies, and whether they like it or not, they are setting a standard with such appearances.
Recently, though, a fan came online and voiced his opinion on this topic, criticizing superhero movie stars for setting an unrealistic and often unhealthy standard for the fans,...

Doctor Victor Von Doom, archenemy of the Fantastic Four and the greatest villain of Marvel Comics, is making his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut in 2026's "Avengers: Doomsday." In case you've been mercifully offline since San Diego Comic-Con 2024, the McU's Doom will be played by former Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr.
I think this is a poor choice for many reasons. One of them is that the film will doubtlessly make a big deal out of Doom sharing the same face as Tony Stark. (I presume there's some multiverse nonsense going on here.) That makes Doom's face central, whereas a big part of Doom's character is that he's not supposed to be seen unmasked. He wears an iron mask because beneath it, his face is heavily scarred. (There's a reason many call Doom the original Darth Vader.)
Doom's physical scars are intertwined with his psychological ones. As a college student,...

Don’t ask Cecily Strong who she thinks is the nicest Saturday Night Live host. Pfft. Guest hosts are all nice. “I think that’s because people come in, and they’re nervous,” Strong told Busy Phillips on a 2019 episode of Busy Tonight. “They want to do well so you’re seeing people at their most vulnerable.”
That puts guests on their best behavior, or as Strong likes to call it, “scared and weak.” And that’s the way she prefers it.
So let’s forget nicest. Which host surprised Strong the most? “I was the most shocked by Chris Hemsworth,” she said, admitting she was less than thrilled when she heard Thor was coming to 30 Rock. “When he first hosted, I was like, ‘Ugh, not my world.’”

The MCU is a star maker. Thor changed Chris Hemsworth from a guy with one outstanding scene at the start of Star Trek to an A-lister. Guardians of the Galaxy transformed Chris Pratt from the goofy guy on Parks & Recreation to an A-list action hero.
All actors know that, so it’s no surprise that someone like Kit Harington would go from saying “I don’t want it” over and over in Game of Thrones to “I do want it” as Dane Whitman, looking at the Ebony Blade in the post-credit sequence of Eternals.

We are all guilty of shipping fictional characters with each other but never could we have imagined pairing Peter Parker/Spider-Man with Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel. For the fans who get their Marvel intake only from The Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is extremely difficult to visualize Tom Holland’s Peter Parker going on a date with Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel.

However, this pairing isn’t a shock to fans who have grown up reading Marvel Comics, as the two superheroes have actually gone on a few dates together. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out for them. The legend of the Hulk spans way further than Mark Ruffalo’s portrayal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Being one of the most ridiculously overpowered characters from the comics, there are several reasons why fans adore him as much as they do. Be it his fighting style, his comedic timing, his tantrums, or the way he completely destroys his enemies, to say that the green radiation-filled monster is an icon would be an understatement.
Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk I Marvel Studios
While the classic version of the character is loved for many reasons, there are several others that are yet to make their debut. Ranging from Worldbreaker Hulk and Gray Hulk to Cosmic Hulk and Weapon H, all versions of the character are deadly in some brutal way or another.
While the comics do an excellent job of showcasing this aspect of the character, the MCU has been falling behind.

We expected Deadpool & Wolverine to kill the Fox Universe; instead, it paid homage to that world, putting the spotlight on legacy heroes like the Human Torch and Elektra, in the process.
There were a great many rumours heading into the movie, including claims Ben Affleck's Daredevil would appear. While the character was referenced (via a cheeky nod to Jennifer Garner's divorce from Affleck), there was ultimately no sign of the Man Without Fear.
Talking to IndieWire, Deadpool & Wolverine writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese admitted they "wanted" Daredevil, with Reese saying, "Did we want to get Ben [Affleck]? We never asked Ben though, I don’t think." Wenick then confirmed, "At some point, Ben was on the list."

In Kenneth Branagh's 2011 fantasy clunker "Thor," it was explained that the title demigod (Chris Hemsworth) could only lift his magical hammer weapon -- called Mjölnir -- if he was "worthy." It's never quite explained what qualities one must possess in order to be worthy, but it has something to do with honorable behavior, a willingness to make sacrifices, and generally being a decent person. Only once one has proven themselves will they be permitted to pick up the weapon and smash people's heads into a bloody pulp.
In Joss Whedon's 2015 superhero mashup "Avengers: Age of Ultron," Thor dared his superhero co-workers to try lifting the hammer, but because they weren't worthy, it remained infinitely heavy. Director George Miller decided to continue the Mad Max franchise with the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga… and while the movie got good reviews (like the 9/10 review from JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray), the worldwide box office numbers just barely passed the $168 million budget, so the Furiosa story was not something a lot of movie-goers were exceptionally eager to see on the big screen. It has been on VOD for a while now, and now we know when it’s going to start streaming: SuperHeroHype reports that Furiosa will be available to watch on the Max streaming service as of August 16th.
Directed by Miller from a screenplay he wrote with Nico Lathouris, Furiosa has the following synopsis: As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus.
