- Graduated from Denison University in Granville, Ohio, in 1955. Afterwards, moved to New York and studied acting under Lee Strasberg and Stella Adler at the Actor's Studio.
- Appeared in many New York-based daytime soaps including "Somerset," "Another World" and "Ryan's Hope".
- Raised in Arlington Virginia, where he began appearing on the local stage.
- Studied at the Actors Studio in New York after graduating from college. He won an Obie Award for his role in "The Marriage of Bette and Boo" in 1985.
- First acted on stage as a youngster with Bailey's Crossroads Theater in Arlington, Virginia. After his family moved to Toledo in 1947, he appeared in several productions of the Toledo Repertoire Theater, including "Life with Father".
