Your honor, I must confess — I have a mighty big soft spot for "The Devil's Advocate." The 1997 supernatural courtroom thriller stars Keanu Reeves as Kevin Lomax, a hotshot Florida lawyer (with the world's sketchiest Southern accent) who is recruited by a fiendish defense attorneys office in New York, run by the charismatic and slightly terrifying John Milton (Al Pacino). As he abandons his morals in order to win cases, Kevin's wife Mary Ann (Charlize Theron) starts having horrific visions with demonic influences. You see, Milton isn't just devilishly handsome and talented, he's also actually the devil himself.
"The Devil's Advocate" completely hinges on Pacino's performance, as he plays Milton with a kind of outlandish delight that only a rare few of our greatest actors could ever attempt. It's a little bit Tony Montana from "Scarface" when he's on copious amounts of coke and a little bit Lieutenant Hanna from "Heat,...

That Time Gal Gadot Faced Controversy Over Her Casting as Cleopatra—Here’s How She Responded to the Backlash! ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Gal Gadot‘s casting as Cleopatra sparked controversies on race and representation in Hollywood. Her 2020 announcement resulted in excitement and echoed criticism from past portrayals, notably Elizabeth Taylor’s in the 1963 Cleopatra—while Netflix’s Queen Cleopatra faced backlash over its casting choices.
The anticipation surrounding Gadot’s Cleopatra was palpable. Teaming up with filmmaker Patty Jenkins and screenwriter Laeta Kalogridis, she wanted to tell Cleopatra’s story from a woman’s perspective. The project saw delays, but Gadot remained optimistic. She told Flaunt, “It’s a big task. I don’t want to [rush] making it— it needs…so much thought and care because it’s Cleopatra.” Her commitment to portraying the queen with the depth she deserved was evident.

Puck News reports that Steven Knight, the prolific producer behind shows like Peaky Blinders, The Veil, A Thousand Blows and This Town, is no longer the screenwriter on an upcoming Star Wars movie about Rey, played by Daisy Ridley in the Star Wars sequel trilogy. The movie will pick up with Rey's story sometime after the end of The Rise of Skywalker as she attempts to set up a new Jedi academy. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still attached to direct.
Before Knight was brought on board, Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson were writing the movie, but they were eventually cycled out. According to Variety, Disney is actively looking for new writers.
Whenever we hear news like this, we add it to the pile of reports about canceled Star Wars movies that have come up over the past several years. Marvel Studios CEO Kevin Feige was going to make a Star Wars movie,...

With The Mandalorian And Grogu still over a year away, a look at some of the Star Wars films Lucasfilm hasn’t made since 2019.
The release of 2015’s The Force Awakens sparked the beginning of a frenzied five years for the Star Wars franchise. It was a period that saw a new film in the series released annually, with numbered sequels interspersed with the spin-offs Rogue One (2016) and Solo (2018). Then 2019 happened, and things went rather quiet.
One problem, for Disney-owned production company Lucasfilm, was that 2019’s The Rise Of Skywalker barely made a billion dollars in cinemas – only half of what The Force Awakens had made four years earlier. The other problem was that Solo: A Star Wars Story, which cost somewhere around $270m to make, only made $400m.
Those declining numbers appeared to give Lucasfilm pause, because it’s spent the years since announcing or hyping future Star Wars movies,...

Filming for Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi will begin soon. The upcoming prequel, set earlier in the timeline than any other film in the franchise, will be directed by James Mangold, who co-wrote the script with Beau Willimon (known for Andor and House of Cards).
Mangold has been nominated for two Academy Awards: one for writing Logan (2017) and another as a producer on Ford v. Ferrari, which was nominated for Best Picture. His other notable works include The Wolverine and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
According to Empire (via World of Reel and ScreenRant), Mangold mentioned in an interview for his Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, starring Timothée Chalamet, that once that project wraps—already drawing Oscar buzz—he’ll begin shooting Dawn of the Jedi. Filming could potentially start by late 2025.

The first-ever Tribeca Festival Lisboa has been years in the making — and is far from the first stop on Tribeca’s international tour to foster rising filmmakers.
The inaugural Tribeca Festival Lisboa will take place from October 17 to 19 in Lisbon, Portugal, and brings the best of this year’s U.S.-based indies abroad. The eight U.S. films curated for the festival range from Nicholas Colia’s “Griffin in Summer,” Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or-winning feature “Anora,” Sundance breakout “In the Summers,” and the heart-wrenching SXSW drama “Bob Trevino Likes It.” “Ezra,” “Jazzy,” “A Bronx Tale, The Original One Man Show,” and “Group Therapy” round out the lineup, with most filmmakers participating in post-screening panels. Festival co-founder Robert De Niro, Whoopi Goldberg, Patty Jenkins, and Griffin Dunne additionally will lead featured talks.

We typically only hear from Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige at conventions like Comic-Con and D23 or during select press tours for various MCU movies and TV shows.
In contrast, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn devotes a fair bit of time to keeping fans updated across his social media channels. The filmmaker is understandably selective about what he shares and many fans have grown frustrated with his lack of transparency regarding Wonder Woman.
Gal Gadot has claimed she'll return as Diana Prince, something studio insiders denied when contacted by the Hollywood trades. Gunn has declined to chime in and the new Dcu currently finds itself without a Batman or Wonder Woman.
Still, we know DC Studios is developing Paradise Lost, a prequel series set on Themyscira in the same vein as Game of Thrones. Whether Wonder Woman will have a role to play in that - and the wider Dcu - remains to be seen.

There’s an exchange in Star Wars: The Force Awakens when Rey and Finn are fleeing from stormtroopers and searching for a way to escape. Rey spots the legendary Millennium Falcon, declares it looks like “garbage,” and then quickly reconsiders: “The garbage will do!”
Increasingly, that’s the attitude some fans have about Disney’s Star Wars programming: “Look, we all know this isn’t fantastic anymore, but Star Wars is still Star Wars, and, therefore, it will do.”
To be fair, Disney’s Star Wars shows and movies remain far from space junk. Their titles typically get glowing reviews from critics, and generate box office returns and streaming ratings that other studios would envy (though at a high cost).
So let’s run through Disney’s Star Wars legacy to date, from The Force Awakens to The Acolyte, and see what conclusions might be drawn. Because several aspects of...

When The Mandalorian premiered on Disney+ in 2019, it seemed like an exciting new beginning for the Star Wars universe. It revolved around interesting new characters we'd never met before, the episodes mostly stood on their own, and Baby Yoda, aka Grogu, became a pop culture phenomenon. Star Wars was back, baby, ushered into a new era by showrunner Jon Favreau and over-boss Dave Filoni!
This is just my opinion, but I was less enthusiastic about the next two seasons, which brought in a lot more characters from other shows and movies. The Mandalorian started to blend into a new rush of Star Wars shows like Ahsoka, The Acolyte and The Book of Boba Fett. I don't think the series ever delivered on the full promise of that exciting first season. It just felt less special after a while.
Now, Disney is trying to reunite interest with a Mandalorian movie called The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Actor Giancarlo Esposito has revealed that Lucasfilm and Disney have plans to make The Mandalorian And Grogu the first in a trilogy (“or more”) of movies.
A movie spin-off from hit Disney+ series The Mandalorian, The Mandalorian And Grogu is currently shooting somewhere in California. According to regular Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito, however, the movie won’t be a one-off, but rather a trilogy – or perhaps an even longer string of big-screen entertainments.
Esposito, who plays the villainous Moff Gideon in the Disney+ show, mentioned this during Dragon Con, a pop culture expo held in Atlanta Georgia in September (news of which comes to us via Culture Slate and Games Radar).
Amid a broader panel discussion about The Mandalorian and other Star Wars TV shows, Esposito said, “Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau have a new vision, continuing on with a Mandalorian movie… My sense is that it’s all going...

Sandra Bullock’s Bird Box made a place for itself in the entertainment industry’s history in the blink of an eye. While the movie itself had mixed reviews from both fans and critics, it became the most-watched film on Netflix just within 28 days of its release. Clearly, there was something fascinating about murderous entities who could kill you just by making eye contact.

Bird Box was released on the streaming giant on December 18, 2018, but it was initially meant for the big screen. Unfortunately, owing to issues with the budgeting, producer Scott Stuber decided to take the script to Netflix’s office where they were more than happy to oblige. No matter what your opinion may be on the rise of streaming platforms, you have to agree that they are extremely important to the industry’s growth.

Back in 2018, while presenting Best Director alongside Ron Howard at the Golden Globe Awards, Natalie Portman created a meme: “And here are the all-male nominees,” Portman said, pointedly underlining the omission of presumed contenders like Greta Gerwig for “Lady Bird” and Patty Jenkins for “Wonder Woman.”
Speaking a month after the ceremony, Portman said she wanted to bring attention to the disparity in the directors’ field without throwing the male nominees under the bus. “It’s not their fault, and they all made great work. You don’t want to not recognize them,” she said to BuzzFeed. “It’s just, why aren’t we recognizing the people who aren’t part of this exclusive club?”
But, Portman added, her goal was to make clear the obvious. “We have to make it weird for people to walk in a room where everyone’s not in the room,” she said. “If you...

Ever thought about betting the farm on a hunch and coming out smelling like roses? That’s exactly what Christina Hendricks did when she hitched her wagon to the ’60s-era drama Mad Men. Well, fortune favors the bold! And, this actress owned that phrase like a boss.
When she first laid eyes on Matthew Weiner’s script, she couldn’t resist the allure of becoming Joan Holloway, the sharp-witted and glamorous secretary who would become a pivotal character in this iconic series.

But, curveball ahead! While her excitement was through the roof, her agency was singing a different tune. Instead of backing her enthusiasm, they were playing it safe and raising eyebrows. Just imagine if she had walked away from that script—we would have missed out on a career spectacle for the ages!

When we think of monsters on this channel, most of the time its from a fictional, mythical, or legendary monster like the Mummy, Wolfman, Dracula, or Frankenstein’s Monster. On this specific show, however, a Monster can take on a whole new meaning. I joke that half of these episodes will be about reportedly true possessions and while that will probably hold fast, there is another type of monster we have discussed a few times. The guy that loosely inspired the Scream killings, Henry from Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer, and today’s subject Aileen Wuornos. The movie made about her is literally called Monster and put director Patty Jenkins and star Charlize Theron, at least in terms of her being seen as an A list actor who can actually act, on the map. It’s a straightforward telling of a murderer that of course adds nuance and even...

It is no secret that men dominate most industries, especially the film industry. But after a summer of Greta Gerwig 's record breaking 'Barbie', here are 24 female filmmakers that have broken the mold and succeeded in an industry of men. Lina Wertmüller Lina Wertmüller was born in Italy in 1928. She studied theater at the Faculty of Arts in Rome. At the very beginning of her career, she became close to the highly acclaimed filmmaker Federico Fellini and was his assistant on ‘8 ½’ (1963). ‘The Basilisks’ (1961) was her first feature and she made her mark with the clandestine love affair tale of ‘The Seduction of Mimi’ (1972). Not long after, her most acclaimed work, ‘Seven Beauties’ (1975), premiered. The film follows the life of a not very successful crook who essentially makes his living out of "protecting" his seven sisters, who is arrested for murder and ends up in the army...

DC’s Elseworlds always have had some of the most interesting takes on their most popular superheroes. In recent times, one of the most interesting iterations of the DC universe has been depicted in Dark Knights of Steel, which depicts a medieval setting, with all of DC’s most popular characters.

While James Gunn has already announced that his Dcu will embody the qualities of Game of Thrones in stories like Paradise Lost, Dark Knights of Steel could totally be a part of the DC Multiverse, completely deserving of an adaptation on the big screen. In a world where female filmmakers are consistently making strides, Zoe Saldaña’s comment has become a matter of controversy. The actress has starred in some iconic action blockbusters like Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy, and she recently expressed her concern about the lack of female directors in the action genre.
Zoe Saldana in Special Ops: Lioness | Bosque Ranch Productions
Her statement has drawn significant attention because there are indeed several female directors who are making waves in the industry. Saldaña’s opinion must’ve been in support of women, but not acknowledging their work makes her look ignorant about the subject.

We haven't had a Star Wars movie in theaters since 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, although there have been lots of fits, starts and stops since then. But know that the wheel has never stopped turning. The executives at Lucasfilm and Disney are sitting high on their black thrones planning future visits to the galaxy far, far away. We're getting a Mandalorian movie, a movie about Rey from the Star Wars sequel trilogy, and a film from Shawn Levy, best known right now as the director behind the hugely successful Deadpool & Wolverine.
Again, I'll say that lots of filmmakers have started to make Star Wars movies in the past few years only for the projects to fall apart, including Taika Waititi, Damon Lindelof, Rian Johnson, Patty Jenkins and Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss. It's a spaceship graveyard over there. But it seems like Disney has been...

There’s never been a better time to be a Star Wars fan in terms of quantity. There’s more Star Wars on screen and on the page now than ever before in the franchise’s history. From Disney+ series to video games to The High Republic books and Marvel comics, you can experience new adventures in the galaxy far, far away pretty much any way you want to right now. If Lucasfilm were able to get some movies off the ground, we’d be able to say that the franchise is firing on all cylinders.
Interestingly enough, Star Wars‘ hopes on the big screen now rest with The Mandalorian, the same franchise that launched the galaxy far, far away’s TV push. Out in 2026, The Mandalorian and Grogu, a continuation of the stories told in the hit Disney+ series, will be the first new Star Wars movie since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker.

When DC Studios announced its "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters" slate at the end of last January, one of the most surprising projects was a TV series titled Paradise Lost.
While both Superman and Batman were given big screen reboots, there was no mention of Wonder Woman beyond a TV show which looks set to explore Themyscira's past long before Diana Prince was born.
Since then, filmmaker Patty Jenkins has confirmed she won't be back for Wonder Woman 3, while Gal Gadot has claimed to be the Dcu's Wonder Woman, only for insiders to debunk the notion. All the while, James Gunn has remained silent on the Amazon Warrior.
Today, Nexus Point News has shared an update on Paradise Lost, revealing that Kira Snyder and Janet Lin are in talks to take charge of the HBO/Max series.
Snyder is best known for writing and producing The Handmaid's Tale and The 100.

Lucasfilm has thrown a lot of Star Wars ideas at the wall in recent years and, on the big screen at least, most haven't become a reality. Still, the mystery project being helmed by Deadpool & Wolverine and Stranger Things director Shawn Levy just took a big step forward.
According to The Insneider (via SFFGazette.com), the filmmaker has enlisted long-time collaborator Jonathan Tropper to pen the script for his first foray into the Galaxy Far, Far Away.
This isn't a huge shock in some respects as they've been working together for at least the past decade; previous projects include This Is Where I Leave You, Kodachrome (produced by Levy and written by Tropper) and, perhaps most famously, Netflix's The Adam Project.
Tropper also has a long list of television credits to his name, including Banshee Warrior, Your Friends and Neighbors, and Jason Momoa's See (for which the writer...

James Gunn’s DC Universe was announced over a year ago, unveiling a slate of movies and live-action TV shows under Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters, with ‘Paradise Lost’ among them.
Details on the plot of ‘Paradise Lost’ are currently sparse. Peter Safran described it as a “Game of Thrones”-style narrative rich in drama and political intrigue.
The series is set on the island of Themyscira, the mythical home of the Amazons closely tied to the gods. Themyscira is a society exclusively of women, glimpsed briefly in previous Wonder Woman films, but now the show will fully explore the island, introducing a much-needed high-fantasy element to the DC Universe.
James Gunn remarked that ‘Paradise Lost’ will serve as an origin story for this mystical location, set in a timeline long before Wonder Woman‘s existence.
“It’s an origin story of how this society of women came about. What does it mean?...

James Gunn’s Dcu was announced over a year ago, we’ve been presented with a slate of movies & live-action TV shows that are supposed to be part of Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters, and ‘Paradise Lost’ is one of them.
Not much is known at the moment regarding the plot of ‘Paradise Lost.’ Peter Safran commented that this is a “Game of Thrones” type of story featuring a lot of drama and political intrigue.
The show will be taking place on the island of Themyscira, home of the Amazons, which have close links to the gods. Themyscira is a society made up of only women, and while we have seen brief glimpses of the island in the previous movies related to Wonder Woman, the show now will focus solely on the island, bringing a much-needed high-fantasy element to the Dcu.

Keep it down, please! This article contains mild spoilers for "A Quiet Place: Day One."
When we first found out that "A Quiet Place: Day One" would be the next film in this franchise, reactions were split. On one hand, nobody ever asked for a prequel film detailing how the series' alien invasion first went down; it couldn't help but feel like the very definition of an unnecessary origin story, which the two John Krasinski-directed movies before it had already covered through flashbacks. On the other, the subsequent news that Jeff Nichols would be directing helped make it feel like somewhat less of a blatant cash grab and more like an opportunity for an interesting talent to take a big swing on a blockbuster budget. Once he parted ways with the production, however, it was easy to dismiss the entire enterprise and expect the worst ... even after "Pig" director...

Well, look what the stork brung. It’s Pedro Pascal in a suit in James Gunn’s Dcu (too soon?). Let’s dial it back a few years ago when Gal Gadot was a part of the Dceu and Patty Jenkins was the director.
Pedro Pascal as Maxwell Lord in Wonder Woman 1984 | Warner Bros. Pictures
It was the year 2020 when Gal Gadot and Pedro Pascal starred in the Dceu film Wonder Woman 1984. Contrary to the number in the title, WW1984 was a sequel to the 2017 film Wonder Woman and by all means, a failure.
Pedro Pascal To Join James Gunn’s Dcu?
In the 2020 film, Pascal portrayed the role of Maxwell Lord, a shrewd enterpreneur who ends up giving people their dreams but… at a personal cost to each one.

At the Hollywood Climate Summit on Wednesday, Twisters director Lee Isaac Chung, executive producer Ashley Jay Sandberg and actor Brandon Perea were joined by some real-life tornado experts to discuss how science and climate change were woven into the upcoming film.
The new movie serves as an update to the 1996 project of the same name, following storm chasers who find themselves in a fight for their lives as multiple tornadoes converge over central Oklahoma. Technical adviser Kevin Kelleher, who works for the National Severe Storms Laboratory, was involved in both the original and new movie, and admits that from a scientific standpoint there were a lot of inaccuracies in the 1996 version.
“Now you fast forward 30 years and everybody’s got a cellphone. They have access to a lot of the data that we have access to, and you’ve got radar, you’ve got everything. And if you’ve been...

Many of us know Jean Smart for her hilarious, yet touching turn as Deborah Vance on the hit Max comedy “Hacks” or her alluring take on Laurie Blake aka Silk Spectre on HBO’s “Watchmen” television series, but she has been working regularly since the ‘80s with her big break coming on the sitcom “Designing Women.” Despite the steady paycheck provided by the show, Smart said in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter that it wasn’t what she wanted in her career.
“I think I didn’t want to get used to such an easy schedule and money,” Smart said. “By season two, we were working only 30 hours a week! I thought, ‘This is fun, but not why I became an actor.’ So I left and was immediately offered a TV movie role playing Aileen Wuornos, America’s first female serial killer. (Laughs.) I remember asking the producer why he thought of me.
