Skydance Media has set a substantial refinancing, closing a four-year revolving credit facility worth up to $1 billion.
The facility, led by J.P. Morgan, is initially valued at $500 million but Skydance will have the ability to double it, according to president and COO Jesse Sisgold.
In announcing the arrangement, the film and TV company said the refinancing was oversubscribed based on its track record and prospects. Founded in 2010 by David Ellison, Skydance has backed a notable roster of feature and series titles, including Netflix films The Old Guard and 6 Underground, studio releases like installments in the Mission: Impossible franchise and shows like Grace & Frankie. Its debut feature animation project is the forthcoming Luck.
The credit facility will be used to sustain and expand the company’s operations, plus production and development activities in film, TV and animation. It will also support interactive-focused and venture endeavors, Skydance said.

“Condor,” which originally aired on AT&T’s Audience Network, will move to Epix for its second season.
The thriller series is based on the novel “Six Days of the Condor.” The first season will air on Epix in March, with Season 2 coming later in 2021.
In January, WarnerMedia shuttered AT&T Audience Network, which was home to series including “Loudermilk” and “Mr. Mercedes,” and instead turned it into a promotional network for HBO Max. Peacock picked up the first two seasons of “Mr. Mercedes” earlier this year, but has no plans to continue the the Stephen King-inspired series.
WarnerMedia made a similar move with Cinemax and turned that into a movie-centric network.
Here’s the logline for “Condor”: Joe Turner (Max Irons) has always been conflicted about his work for the CIA. But when something he’s discovered gets his entire office killed, leaving Joe as the only survivor...

Condor is heading to Epix for its second season. The spy thriller series, from MGM Television and Skydance Television, aired its first season on now-defunct AT&T’s Audience Network. AT&T announced in January that the network would cease operations in the spring and transition to a preview channel for HBO Max. Season one will run on Epix starting in early March, followed by the U.S. debut of season two later in the year.
Based on the novel Six Days of the Condor by James Grady and screenplay Three Days of the Condor by Lorenzo Semple Jr. and David Rayfiel, Condor follows CIA analyst Joe Turner (Max Irons) who stumbles onto a plan that threatens the lives of millions. In season two of Condor, shocking events back home force Joe Turner to face the demons of his past and return to the CIA’s tight-knit Virginia community to find a Russian traitor.

Skydance Animation is in discussions to sell Apple its first two animated films, “Luck” and “Spellbound,” an individual with knowledge told TheWrap.
The two films, both produced under the group led by John Lasseter, would be part of a larger deal between the animation division of David Ellison’s studio and between Apple, though a deal has not yet been reached.
Both “Luck” and “Spellbound” were set up to be released by Paramount in 2022, but contractually, Skydance can move the films. According to Variety, Skydance hopes that both films can have a theatrical run before debuting on Apple’s streaming service.
A rep for Apple declined to comment. Paramount and Skydance did not return requests for comment.

Reportedly the films are part of a bigger deal between David Ellison’s animation arm and the streamer. Sources say that the terms in the works are for both titles to go to AppleTV+. The pics could potentially get a qualifying awards theatrical run.

Apple has been in prolonged conversations to acquire two John Lasseter-produced titles from Skydance Animation, “Luck” and “Spellbound,” multiple insiders with knowledge of the discussions told Variety.
The two films would anchor what sources called a larger agreement between David Ellison’s animation division and the streamer, which has yet to be reached. WME is also said to be involved in the negotiations, which also includes a theatrical release component.
The films had been set up at Paramount Pictures, where Skydance enjoys a lucrative partnership on the “Mission: Impossible” franchise and the upcoming “Top Gun” sequel. Skydance has a contractual right to move the projects at will, another source added.
Skydance, Paramount Pictures, and Apple declined to comment.
The handful of executives who screened footage of “Luck” called it “vintage Lasseter,” citing the dazzling production value and commercial appeal the producer is known for, said insiders.

Not for the first time, Skydance has pressed the hard reset button on James Cameron’s Terminator franchise.
But unlike Salvation and Terminator: Genisys, the Powers That Be have an ace in the hole in Linda Hamilton, who’s all set to reprise the iconic role of Sarah Connor for Cameron and Tim Miller’s “three-film reinvention.” That’s not to say Hamilton has signed for all three instalments; word is that James Cameron and fellow series stalwart David Ellison want to pass the torch onto a whole new generation of characters. Think of how Star Wars handled the transition from Jedi to 2015’s The Force Awakens.
And so, in balancing the old with the new, Skydance’s sixth Terminator film will place Linda Hamilton and the returning Arnold Schwarzenegger at its core, with Cameron and Miller said to be casting the net in search of an “18-something young...

Between them, James Cameron (Avatar), David Ellison and former Deadpool director Tim Miller are stripping The Terminator down to the bare bones – or metallic frame, if we’re staying true to the topic at hand.
A “three-film reinvention” is on the cards, and James Cameron and Tim Miller recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk at length about their bold masterplan. It’s one that will not only welcome the return of series stalwarts Linda Hamilton (Sarah Connor) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (T-800/T-850), but also retcon the events of Terminator: Genisys, Alan Taylor’s botched reboot that was once angled as a bona fide franchise-starter before Paramount pulled the plug.
In fact, as Cameron stresses to THR, the sixth Terminator movie is a “continuation of the story” from T1 and T2: Judgement Day, and this laser focus will allow Miller’s reboot to pretend the other...

AMC has ordered a 10-episode adaptation of “Dietland,” the 2015 novel about weight loss and beauty, from executive producer Marti Noxon (“UnReal,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”).
The novel, written by Sarai Walker and released in 2015, takes place in the beauty industry and mixes character drama and revenge fantasy to explore society’s obsession with weight loss and beauty. Kirkus Reviews called the book “part ‘Fight Club,’ part feminist manifesto, an offbeat and genre-bending novel that aims high.”
Noxon, who will direct the first several episodes of the series, elaborated more about the show on Saturday at AMC’s portion of the Television Critics Association press tour. Noxon said she was concerned at first that she wouldn’t find a home for “Dietland,” which she noted features a “funny and poignant” story that “you can’t quantify.”
But it’s also dark: The main character is morbidly obese, and finds herself being pulled between two feminist cults.

No longer content to simply make “Avatar” movies for the rest of his life, James Cameron apparently has another franchise on his mind: “Terminator.” Cameron, who co-wrote and directed the first two entries in the time-traveling sci-fi series but hasn’t been directly involved with the more recent — and less well-received — sequels, tells the Australian news website news.com.au that he and David Ellison, who owns the rights to the franchise, are “in discussions” and “leaning toward doing a three-film arc and reinventing it.”

Terminator: Salvation and Terminator: Genisys were supposed to launch new trilogies. Now? James Cameron wants a go...
The last two films in the Terminator series – Terminator: Salvation and Terminator: Genisys – were both intended to launch new series of movies. In both cases in fact, there were supposed to be the first in a trilogy. But the films didn’t garner enough positive interest to get their respective sequels off the ground, yet alone chapter three.
As such, it was revealed a few months back that the creator of the Terminator series, James Cameron, was back involved in the movies. To the point where he’s overseeing the next Terminator film, that’s set to be directed by Deadpool’s Tim Miller.
Turns out, though, that Cameron has got the trilogy bug, and he’s trying to kickstart a series of further films. Chatting to News.

One of the most surprising games of E3 2016, Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding, will not be on stage this year when Sony presents their wares. Read Kojima's tweet below and see if you can decipher it. Plus, find out when you can see the man, himself, live and in person at E3!
When we began on the long, winding road to E3 2017, one of the games we were most excited to get an update on was Hideo Kojima's first game since Konami, Death Stranding. Alas, we aren't so lucky this year as Kojima has tweeted out that his team has decided to forego E3 2017 in favor of spending that time developing. That didn't mean Kojima, himself, wouldn't still be in attendance, though.
Apologies to our fans, Death Stranding will not be @ E3 as we are fully focused on development. Pls see me with @geoffkeighley on 6/14! pic.twitter.com/w...

The sequel to Prometheus got decent reviews, but its box office could throw the Alien franchise into doubt. We look at the numbers...
In terms of story, Alien: Covenant's conclusion hinted at all kinds of dark possibilities. We won't go over them in spoilery detail here - we've done that before, if you're interested in getting into specifics - but Covenant's conclusion, along with Ridley Scott's clear enthusiasm for the franchise, left clear indications that at least a couple of sequels were in the pipeline.
Right now, though, there appears to be a black cloud on the horizon: the film's box-office. While Alien: Covenant received better reviews than its predecessor, 2012's Prometheus, the latest in a planned string of prequels to 1979's Alien has made a worryingly steep dive in profits over the past couple of weeks.

As you may have heard, there were recent reports revolving around Arnold Schwarzenegger not wanting to do any more Terminator films. Well, turns out that's not true. During a recent interview with Fandango, the actor called the previous reports fake news and says he's "looking forward to doing another Terminator movie." He says:
“I don’t want to call it, like, fake news, like the president calls it, but I think people just write things -- I have no idea why. Just because Paramount doesn’t want to pick up the Terminator franchise, you have 15 other studios willing to do it -- that doesn’t mean the Terminator franchise is finished, right? It just means they are on their way to negotiate with another studio, but I can’t give you the details of that. They’ll announce that. But, yes, the Terminator franchise is never finished. And remember that...

I’ll be back is a line of dialogue that needs no introduction. First uttered by Arnold Schwarzenegger’s towering android assassin in The Terminator all those years ago, the catchphrase has since been used in practically every film starring the Austrian Oak, including all four sequels to James Cameron’s sci-fi classic.
As it happens, it’s also an apt response for Schwarzenegger to call upon after one story suggested that he was essentially finished with the iconic franchise. Not so, it seems, after the actor told Fandango in no uncertain terms that, “I’m looking forward to doing another Terminator movie, yes.”
The outlet caught up with Arnie in anticipation of Aftermath, a gruelling depiction of loss and grief that evokes memories of his memorable turn in 2015’s Maggie. It was here that Fandango asked Schwarzenegger about the current state of the Terminator series, which has essentially been...

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.
So we’re going to try something different this week, because the Weekend Warrior has been getting a little long in the tooth, and we’re worried that our busy readers may prefer shorter and more concise pieces. We’ll give this a try over the next few weeks and maybe I’ll write a little more when there’s a bigger movie opening.
How Will Power Rangers and Two Other Movies Fare Against Disney’s Beauty and the Beast?
This past weekend, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast reigned supreme with nearly $175 million--over $20 million more than my prediction (ouch!)--and even with a substantial drop this weekend, it’s unlikely that any of the three new movies will be able to...

Earlier this year we learned that the rights to The Terminator franchise were reverting back to James Cameron in 2019 and that he enlisted the help of Deadpool director Tim Miller to help develop a new film. That was pretty big news, but it sounds like we are going to get more big news regarding the Terminator franchise sometime this year.
After rumors surfaced that Paramount Pictures was ditching the Terminator franchise for good, Terminator: Genisys producer and head of Skydance, David Ellison, told Collider that there are Terminator plans in the works. He says:
“I will say we have resolved the future of the franchise and believe me its an incredibly bright future. I think where it’s going will be the continuation of what the fans really wanted since T2.“We have something this year that we will be announcing for the franchise. It’s something we’re...

This week has been a bit of a rollercoaster with regards to iconic sci-fi franchises, with news that work has begun on a new Matrix movie that may be a prequel about Morpheus, and that Arnold Schwarzenegger's departure from the Terminator franchise has all but, well, terminated all subsequent movies. We argued there was certainly more to do with the Terminator mythology, and it appears we will see more, according to producer David Ellison. He told Collider that we should expect a major announcement regarding the future of the Terminator franchise sometime this year, and based on the rest of his comments we don't think that announcement will be no more Terminator movies. “I will say we have resolved the future of the franchise and believe me its an incredibly...

Just because Arnold Schwarzenegger has purportedly bid adieu to the legendary franchise doesn’t necessarily mean The Terminator is dead – far from it, in fact, with Skydance head honcho David Ellison revealing to Collider that the series has “an incredibly bright future.”
Not only that, but Ellison went on to tease a major franchise announcement for 2017, indicating that James Cameron and Tim Miller’s nebulous reboot may well be further along than many had anticipated. That’s merely conjecture for now, though, considering that we only learned of said revival two months ago. Couple this with Cameron’s ongoing commitment to his 27 Avatar sequels and one would assume that it’s still too early in the project’s lifecycle to warrant an announcement.
Even still, while chatting to Collider, Ellison stressed that this news “is the direction [The Terminator] needs to head,” which is exciting in and of itself. After scrapping plans...

Well, this is unexpected news. Despite its early start with two of the finest action/sci-fi movies of their era, The Terminator franchise has floundered badly in recent years, after the underwhelming Terminator: Salvation and the confusing, rightly-maligned Terminator: Genisys. It was starting to look like the venerable franchise had finally run its course. Terminator: Genisys was supposed to be the start of a brand new trilogy, but a critical savaging and underwhelming box office performance appeared to dunk those franchise hopes in a vat of molten steel.

Well, it looks like we now know why director Tim Miller chose not to return for Deadpool 2. Though creative differences no doubt played a large part in his departure, it seems that he also had bigger fish to fry. How big, you ask? Try Terminator-level big. That’s right, folks, it sounds like the filmmaker will be teaming up with James Cameron to reboot the iconic sci-fi actioner, according to Deadline.
The outlet’s report doesn’t go into much detail on the new project, but with the rights to the franchise set to revert back to Cameron in a few years, sources say the director is talking to Miller about doing another film in the series. Skydance’s David Ellison is financing the new effort and it’s said that a search is currently underway for a group of writers who can crack the story. Though it...

Morten Tyldum has seen better days. The Oscar-nominated director behind The Imitation Game and Headhunters found himself receiving some of the worst reviews of his career with Passengers, and the box office take for the expensive blockbuster hasn’t looked much better. Ron Howard may well end up being the first person to figure out how to turn one of Neal Stephenson’s books into a film. That is very good news in general. Stephenson is one of my favorite working authors, and each time he releases a book, I find myself living in his world for a few months. I just recently went back and read Snow Crash for the first time in a long time, and it’s amazing how clearly he found his gift even just three books into his remarkable career. I remember reading Snow Crash and immediately thinking, “There are going to be filmmakers fighting to make this thing.” I also remember thinking that Stephenson’s imagination was so far out that it would take civilization decades to catch up with him. I had no idea he was more of a “right-around-the-corner” tech prophet, and when you...

Ron Howard is bringing the Apollo 13 team back to board Neal Stephenson's vision of the future.
Director Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer have made several films together, few more successful than 1995's Apollo 13. The Oscar-nominated story of the space mission of the same title was a huge box office success. Now? The team are coming back together on a new sci-fi film, an adaptation of Neal Stephenson's novel, Seveneves. Apollo 13 screenwriter Bill Broyles is back to pen the script, too.
Seveneves tells the story of countries coming together to save the world in the face of a catastrophic event set to end the Earth. A new home is needed, and duly found. Then, fast forward a few thousand years, and, even before you can say Battlestar Galactica, the search to find Earth again begins.
Skydance is overseeing the project, with David Ellison producing for the firm.

Having worked with the streamer on both "The Killing" and "House of Cards," actor Joel Kinnaman is returning to Netflix for their ten-episode sci-fi drama series "Altered Carbon" which Skydance TV will produce.
Based on the 2002 novel by Richard Morgan, the story is set in the 25th century and explores what happens when the human mind becomes digitized and the soul is transferable from one body to another.
The series revolves around Takeshi Kovacs, an ex-elite interstellar warrior known as an Envoy (Kinnaman) who has been imprisoned for five centuries and who is downloaded into a future he had tried to stop.
If he can solve a single murder in a world where technology has made death nearly obsolete, he will get a chance at a new life on Earth.
Miguel Sapochnik ("Game of Thrones") has signed on to direct the series premiere while Laeta Kalogridis ("Avatar") will pen the script and serve as showrunner.
