The announcement of winners for the ASCAP Screen Music Awards, being held virtually again for 2022 and announced Monday morning, included revealing the top vote-getters for several Composers’ Choice Awards, including the scores for “Encanto” and “The White Lotus.”
Germaine Franco prevailed for film score of the year for “Encanto.” Cristobal Tapia de Veer won two of these peer-voted awards, for television score of the year and television theme as well, for “The White Lotus. The video game score of the year honor went to Wataru Hokoyama for “Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.” Triumphing in the documentary score of the year category was Amanda Jones for “Dreamland: The Burning of Black Wall Street.”
Those five Composers’ Choice Awards come on top of ASCAP’s traditional Screen Music Awards, which collect date to honor the most-consumed music of the year in the fields of TV, film and video games, with dozens of winners cited.

A television producer charged with killing her sister pleaded no contest today to voluntary manslaughter.
Jill Blackstone, 59, was immediately sentenced to eight years in state prison following her plea to one felony count of voluntary manslaughter involving the March 2015 death of her 49-year-old sister Wendy Blackstone in Studio City, along with three felony counts of animal cruelty involving three dogs — two of whom died.
Police contend that Blackstone — who has worked on such programs as The Jerry Springer Show, Divorce Court and Family Court with Judge Penny — set a garage on fire, killing her sister and two of the dogs, and staged it as an accident.
Her sister Wendy Blackstone was legally blind and required hearing aids, according to the Los Angeles Times. She was found in a Studio City garage alongside a Weber charcoal grill and a trash can with ash in it — both believed to be the source...

Jill Blackstone, a former television producer whose credits include “The Jerry Springer Show,” “Family Court With Judge Penny” and “Divorce Court,” has been charged in connection with her sister Wendy’s death, the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office said Monday.
In addition to one felony count of murder, Blackstone faces three felony counts of cruelty to an animal stemming from the incident.
According to the Da’s office, Jill Blackstone allegedly killed her sister Wendy Blackstone, 49, in a garage “on or about March 13 and March 14, 2015.”

“First responders found a deceased dog next to the victim and two other dogs who were trapped inside the garage ran outside when the door was opened, the prosecutor said,” the district attorney’s office said.
Prosecution will request bail be set at more than $2 million for Blackstone, who faces a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison if convicted as charged.
Blackstone had previously been arrested on suspicion of murder. However, police told TheWrap that the district attorney’s office dropped the charges and asked for further investigation.

Wendy Blackstone initially seemed to have died due to carbon monoxide poisoning from a barbecue grill in the garage of the San Fernando Valley residence that the sisters shared. A suicide note was found in Wendy’s hand, but police are now questioning the situation, TMZ reports.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, the district attorney’s office said Monday.

Television producer Jill Blackstone, whose credits include The Jerry Springer Show, Divorce Court and Family Court with Judge Penny, will now face a real-life courtroom situation. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Operations-Valley Bureau Homicide Detectives, along with the Baltimore Police Department, have arrested her for murder.
According to Lapd, on March 14, 2015, Jill Blackstone drugged her sister Wendy Blackstone and placed her in the garage of their North Hollywood residence along with three pet dogs. Jill Blackstone then allegedly set the garage on fire, killing Wendy and two of the dogs, staging it as an accident.
Homicide detectives believe the motive was Jill’s frustration at being forced to provide Wendy long-term care, as well as the associated financial hardship.

Film review: 'Love Walked In'
A handsome piano player, a singer and, alas, an older man -- they're the combustible ingredients of "Love Walked In", a story that keeps you completely aroused. With winning performances from Denis Leary, Aitana Sanchez-Gijon and Terence Stamp, this TriStar presentation is a curious, wonderfully old-fashioned gem.
In the small-but-lethal story line, Leary stars as Jack, a small-time piano man who works the Eastern-site circuits and woos available money women. He's handsome, caustic and, with his droopy, good hair, absolutely the type who can swoon a woman -- luckily in this case, it's his featured singer, Vicki (Sanchez-Gijon). She is sultry, to say the least, and soon wins over Jack, who has reservations nonetheless.
The overall story is delectable: some surprises and some predictabilities. One keeps rooting for both lovers, and that's the wonderful problem -- because, well, you know what happens.
The best thing about "Love Walked In" is the acting. Leary is stunning as the disaffected pianist. He is charismatic and fun, demonstrating a range beyond his strict comedy persona. Sanchez-Gijon is aptly sultry and sullen as the enigmatic female. She oozes badness in all the right ways, terrifically enticing. As the forlorn millionaire, Stamp is perhaps the film's strongest element: vulnerable, audacious and carnivorous all at once.
Although the scenario by Lynn Geller, Larry Golin and Juan J. Campanella is a bit muddy, it is very smart and nicely visualized by director Campanella.
Tech credits are above average, with special praise to composer Wendy Blackstone for the scrumptious score.
