Napoleon: Total War is an upcoming turn-based strategy and real-time tactics video game developed by The Creative Assembly and published by Sega. It is the next installment in the Total War series. It is scheduled to be released on February 26th, 2010 with three editions; Standard Edition, Imperial Edition and for Australia only there is The Emperor's edition.
Overview
Napoleon: Total War is a strategy game, currently being developed by The Creative Assembly. The precursor and code base for Napoleon: Total War, Empire: Total War, is widely regarded as historically inaccurate[citation needed] and devoid of challenge[citation needed], thus, The Creative Assembly has claimed that their upcoming effort "will perfect everything Empire Total War was meant to be"[citation needed]. It will contain 3 separate campaigns, the first two will be story-based upon Napoleon's first two major campaigns; The Italian campaign in 1796 and the Egyptian campaign in 1798. In these, numerous optional missions will be available to the player, as in the third, "The Mastery of Europe" campaign, which is equivalent to the "Grand Campaign" of previous Total War titles, though the overall goal will still be to conquer a certain number of regions. There will also now be the option for a drop in multiplayer campaign mode; when playing the campaign in single player, the player may choose to open up you server and allow any real person waiting in the multiplayer lobby to join and oppose them in any particular battle.
Many of Napoleon's major battles such as Austerlitz will be available as historical scenarios, separate to the campaign. There has also been promised a unit editor which may add depth to grand campaign management. A new battle physics system has been implemented, so when cannon balls hit the ground, they'll leave dents, and so forth. Mike Simpson from CA has reported that if something looks like it will affect the battle, it probably will; when it rains, gunpowder will backfire and landscape will affect your range of fire. Less tactically important details, such as dead cavalry men stuck in their saddles being dragged around by their panicked horses will also feature. The campaign map will be more "zoomed in" and detailed than in Empire: Total War. Turns in Napoleon: Total War will be only 2 weeks, while previous titles sported 6 month turns. It is alleged that this Total War will also try to support the modification communities on the internet such as those at the Total War Centre, but The Creative Assembly have made no effort to deliver the support that they promised modders prior to the release of Empire: Total War. Napoleon: Total War will also come with many new features in multiplayer such as a uniform editor, and a voice command utility to speak to other players via Steam.
Multiplayer: "Napoleon" will feature:
- Multiple multiplayer modes with many features and numerous online functions.
- Steam achievements, game play bonuses, uniform editor and voice communications.
- Many Napoleonic battles and advanced weapons to allow for large battles and more options in the campaign.
- A new uniform system including at least 355 uniforms.
Imperial Edition and Expansions
A special "Imperial Edition" was announced by SEGA, which will contain various extras, including a code to unlock two unit sets: "Heroes of the Napoleonic Wars" and "Elite Regiment".[3]
