Great Doctor Lie Köpflen is the geneticist of the Reconstructive Experiment Empire Mess and the secondary antagonist of Choushinsei Flashman. He was Great Emperor Lah Deus's first and initial second-in-command, but later after Lah Deus's death, Kopflen took control over the Mess Empire, becoming the empire's new leader. Kopflen desired to turn the universe into a wasteland for him to rule over by reconstructing all beings using his Gene Synthesizer. He is also one of Flashmen's archenemies, alongside his master Lah Deus, and also one of their most personal enemies. Eventually, during the finale of the season, Lie Kopflen became the final villain that the Flashmen team encountered.
He was played by Koji Shimizu.
Biography[]
Past[]
Similar to the Flashmen, Lie Köpflen was born on Earth three-hundred years prior to the start of the series. While he was still an infant, Kopflen was abducted by Lah Deus, who taught him the ways of genetic manipulations in order to groom him into being his ideal assistant to reach his goal of becoming an ultimate perfect lifeform.
To gather genetic samples for his experiments, Kopflen sent Sir Cowler and his Alien Hunters to hunt down children on Earth, abducting those who would become the Flashmen in process. Before the five children could be delivered however, they were rescued by the Flash race and raised to one day fight the Mess.
Flashman[]
Kopflen eventually arrives on Earth with the rest of Mess on board Laboh; hoping to conquer it so that its genetic material can be harvested. During the Mess' advance attack however, they are fought off by the Flashmen who return to Earth to find their parents and defend the planet from Mess.
Throughout the season, Köpflen and his master Lah Deus created and tried multiple schemes and tactics of the Earth conquest by using their Beast Warriors, but they were rarely successful in any of their attempts and most of their plans were foiled by the Flashmen superhero team.
However, Köpflen has developed a serious god complex and becomes bitter towards the Alien Hunters due to being dissatisfied with the latter's own way and eventually abandons them. In addition, he grows distrustful towards Lah Deus and attempted to pry into the secret of his leader's true form.
Eventually, after Cowler rebels against Lah Deus and apparently kills him, Köpflen takes over Mess and uses Lah Deus' genetics to create Deus Beast Warriors. Kopflen's reign is cut short when Lah Deus returns from the dead to reclaim his spot as ruler, revealing Kopflen's true identity as an Earth human he abducted. Köpflen refuses to hear and throws Lah Deus into the Gene Synthesizer, remodifying Lah Deus himself into a Deus Beast Warrior named The Deusura.
After Lah Deus is killed, Köpflen fuses Lah Deus' mask with Kuragen, creating his final Deus Beast Warrior named The Demoss and attacks the Flashmen with it. Though dying because of the Anti-Flash Phenomenon, the Flashmen are able to destroy it and storm the Laboh which leads to the death of Leh Näfel.
Köpflen makes one last attempt to bargain with the Flashmen by promising to use the Gene Synthesizer to turn them back to normal human beings so that they will never suffer from their malady. However, Sara rejects Köpflen's bargain and destroys the Gene Synthesizer, starting a chain reaction that destroys the Mess mothership.
With nothing left to live for, whereas the Flashmen flee the Ladoh, Köpflen stays behind and laughs insanely before being killed by the explosion.

Personality[]
Lie Köpflen was a ruthless, power-hungry, sadistic and hegemonic megalomaniac who, just like practically all other Sentai villains, desired for absolute and undisputed power and total control over the Earth and later the entire universe. Köpflen was an eccentric, weird but incredibly intelligent, smart, clever and calculating scientist who possessed an enormous knowledge of genetics and scientific themes. He was an excellent scientist and genetic and was known as a valuable asset for the Mess Empire. While initially Köpflen proved to be highly loyal to Emperor Lah Deus, loyally following all of his master's orders, always trusted Lah Deus and never argue nor question him, but later it was revealed that Köpflen consealed his true treacherous, egotistical and devious nature, and secretly plotting and desiring to overthrow Lah Deus and take over the Mess Empire for himself.
This was proven true later when Kopflen betrayed Lah Deus and apparently killed the evil alien emperor. Lie Köpflen gloated and was glad of his apparent victory and was happy that he could now take control of the Mess Empire for himself. However, despite his sly, calculating, ruthless and intelligent nature, Köpflen's arrogance, confidence and desire for power proved to be his ultimate weaknesses, since he underestimated the Flashmen and was eventually outsmarted and defeated by the heroes. While he didn't initially underestimate their abilities and prepared for battles with them carefully, but after gloating in his apparent victory, Köpflen let his guard down and was easily outsmarted by the heroes.
Overall, Köpflen is nothing but a selfish, ruthless and hegemonic tyrant, who has little to no redeeming qualities. Arguably Köpflen's only sympathetic features were his genuine care for Leh Nafel whom he genuinely cared and loved, his genuine love and care for his children and his final scene where he unsuccessfully begged Flashmen to reason with him and tried to bargain with them, promising to use the Gene Synthesizer to turn them back to normal human beings so that they will never suffer from their malady. However, the heroes were disgusted by Köpflen's horrible crimes and refused from his bargain. However even while being at the verge of death, Köpflen accepted his fate and death and showed absolutely no fear, only laughing maniacally and taunting the Flashmen before being killed by the explosion.

- Durability: Lie Köpflen survived being hit by both the Prism Shooters and Jin's Prism Cutter without dying.
- Longevity: Lie Köpflen lived for 300 years with very limited ageing.
- Organ Playing: The Gene Synthesiser was an organ which Lie Köpflen was an expert at playing.
- Genius Mind: Although Lie Köpflen had no means of combat himself, he was the mastermind behind all of Mess' genetic creations through his knowledge of genetic manipulation using his Gene Synthesizer within the mothership Laboh.
