Black Mamba Aespa

Black Mamba is the titular main antagonist of the music video "Black Mamba" by South Korean girl group aespa, as well as all of the music videos since aespa's debut. She is a black snake-like entity who threatens the connection between aespa's real-world members and their "ae" avatars, wreaking havoc across multiple worlds in her attempts to reach her goal.

In the music video "Black Mamba", her human form is portrayed by South Korean actress Jang Yoonju.

Appearance[]

Black Mamba is described as a black snake with golden or green eyes and fluctuating size; she can also shift this into a hydra-like form with multiple heads. In her human form, she is dressed up in all black and wears a golden crown. She has black hands which she wears several golden bracelets around. She has dark reddish lips and dark shadows surrounding her eyes. Her more digitalized form has short purple hair and large eyes that change between green, blue, and various shades of purple, possibly based on the extent of her rage (for example, they appear as silvery-purple when she is winning a fight and seemingly proud of herself, but are shown as a deeper purple when she is angrier).

Personality[]

Black Mamba is described as a "threatening existent to the world and a hindrance to the connection of aespa & 'ae', their avatars." She threatens the connection between aespa’s real-world members and their “ae” avatars, making it harder for them to communicate with each other; she possesses an intense hatred for humanity and their treatment of their own ae, believing that humans see their ae as disposable and wanting to save the aes from humans. However, although she may seem to have compassion for aes, she is not above manipulating ae in attempt to force humans to be rude to their avatars or even nearly delete them just to prove her own point. She is quite deceiving, which makes it harder for the members to recognize her villainous antics, and mimics the worst aspects of humanity to manipulate the aespa members and send them into shock. Bottom line, she is quite hateful towards humans and, although her goal to save ae from humans may seem heroic in theory, her ways of executing her plan are villainous and she feels no remorse whatsoever for her actions and for the harm she causes people, seeming nearly emotionless except for when it comes to rage, as her expression remains the same until she grows angry.

Biography[]

In "Black Mamba: Intro", she is seen in her human form taking possession over aespa's Karina, which also appeared in a short scene in the middle of Aespa's Black Mamba M/V.

In "Black Mamba", the members of Aespa experience a surreal reality, where they meet their "ae" avatars. They meet an enormous black snake (who would be find out as Black mamba). They learn that she is trying to interfere their connection with the avatars "ae" and with the world as the music video continue. In the end, a distorted human figure with digital pixels appear.

She appears in an episodic series about aespa as well, in which she causes an event called SYNK OUT where humans’ ae vanish, and uses the aespa member’s worst fears against them before revealing her humanoid form and battling them; although she at first bests them, when Naevis helps the members, she is seemingly defeated and is last seen in statue form seemingly giving her powers to BoA.

Trivia[]

  • Her character is based on the venomous snake by the same name.
  • Although she says she was created in the avatar world of KWANGYA by the insatiable desires of humans, she despises them.
  • Her virtual form somewhat resembles Karina’s ae form, likely coincidentally.
  • She gains more power when she absorbs Naevis’s butterfly, though the reason behind this is unknown.
