Description

BalrogVT1

Executed by pressing Heavy Punch and Heavy Kick simultaneously, Balrog winds his arm up a couple of times upon activation. Steam arises from his body as a symbol of his increase in intensity. While this V-Trigger is active, Balrog can chain together various special moves for devastating results.

Balrog also gains access to two new special moves through the duration of his V-Trigger.

  • Charging Buffalo: By pressing forward and punch during one of his dash punches, Balrog performs a short dash forward and follows up with a straight punch using his opposite fist, similar to his Dash Straight.
  • Bursting Buffalo: By pressing forward and kick during one of his dash punches, Balrog steps forward and follows up with an uppercut using his opposite fist, similar to his Screw Smash.

Tactics

When this V-Trigger is active, Balrog's pressure game is amplified drastically. As long as this V-Trigger is active, he can string together his special moves. There are dozens of combinations Balrog can utilize by chaining his dash punches with his two new special moves: Charging Buffalo and Bursting Buffalo. Balrog can hit his opponent up to 5 times per combo. He can also cancel any of the punches into his Critical Art for maximum damage.

Balrog also gets excellent corner carry with this V-Trigger. Using one of the many combination of dash punches, he can push his opponent into the corner and maintain offensive pressure. Crazy Rush also makes Balrog's dash punches safe on block if he cancels them into Charging Buffalo or Busting Buffalo. Both moves are -2 on block and has a decent pushback. This makes it challenging for his opponent to punish Balrog upon blocking these attacks.

Trivia

  • The full sequence of Charging Buffalo is very similar to his former Super Combo attack, Crazy Buffalo.
    • When enhanced by his second V-Skill, the attack gains multiple hits and an exaggerated wind effect, making it similar to Crazy Buffalo's enhanced variant, Violent Buffalo.
  • Balrog's activation quote is a reference to his pre-fight intro in Street Fighter IV. His activation quote for his Ultra Combo was conversely made into his pre-fight intro in Street Fighter V, thus making both quotes swapped from their original contexts.
