September - Done and Dusted - The Quilt Top is Finished

I made it!  The first time I have been able to keep up with a stitch-a-long all the way through. I'm loving seeing all the other versions.  So many girls have been able to meet the deadline, which is great.

At the beginning of the month I was very good, cutting some each day and then piecing them into two patches and nine patches.  My little fabric baskets came into their own.

Then I seemed to stagnate. I think I was worried that they wouldn’t fit.  After reading the pattern and realising that I had to trim the quilt after the previous border was attached, everything came together nicely.

It was fun working out the placement.  Joey was a great help.  He’s not usually allowed anywhere near a quilt that is being worked on, but it was a little hard to do anything about it when the quilt was on the floor. He was very well behaved.

Here we are with the first border attached.

Next to trim down all the appliqué blocks.  Measure twice, cut once.  All good.  Here they are attached.  I was pleased that no two of the same blue background ended up next to each other.

Finally, last night I attached the final two borders. So, in what seems to be my usual style, the month’s progress was completed with one day to spare.

I’m really happy with how it has turned out.  It is much brighter than it thought it would be, as quite a few of the fabrics are fairly dark.

I’m also happy that then entire top is made from scraps and from my stash.  No fabric was bought.  Mind you, it doesn’t seem to have made much of a difference in my fabric piles.

Now I have to give my friendly custom quilter a call to arrange to have it quilted.  The end is nigh.

Thanks so much to Chooky and Susan.  As I’ve said before, there is no way I would tackle a quilt with this much work without the threat of the whip and the camaraderie of all the other girls working away with me.

And finally, I must mention Anni.  Aren’t her designs just awesome.  We are so lucky to have her in our midst.

Cheers

Janice

Sorry, I am still here.

I am still here. Because my inner check border is shorter than applique border, I need to sew all squares again.

My Journey is nearly at it`s end !

Hello my friends.
My journey is nearly at it`s end but a few more days quilting yet!
So far:

Trying to get backing and wadding
with top in place ready to pin!!
As you can see this little lady was helping,
NOT.

A lot has been quilted but still a few hours to go.

I`m finding my back and shoulders can only take
small amounts of time on this.
Plus school holidays and family due to visit.
I`ll keep on with my progress and show as
soon as complete.
I`m disappointed not to have finished this month :(
Happy Stitching,
Clare.

At Journey's End

Well nearly ... except for the quilting and binding but for now I am super happy with a finished top.

Sorry but I couldn't decide which photo layout I liked the best so went with all 3 ... I'm just that happy to have a top.

I can't thank Chooky enough for the opportunity to be part of this years' SAL and to Susan for being co whip cracker. In all the ups and downs of the drought, working off farm and general life, this has been the one thing that I could control. All mapped out with steps for each month ... great support and friendship with fellow SAL Gals and lovely comments cheering each other on.

Congratulations to our Champions and to those who have finished tops ... they are all amazing to look at and I love all the different colour combinations.

Fingers crossed that another SAL may commence with the new year. Knowing all to well how Mother Nature and other "stuff" can push you to your limits sometimes ... this journey has been a lovely oasis.

Thank you xx  ~  Narelle @ Pins and Whiskers

I Made It!

I didn't expect to take to long to show you my finished top.  You know what happens to the best laid plans... they come unstuck when you catch the Devils own stinking cold.   Never mind..... I'm finally able to show you my Natures Journey.....

I have to say that signing up to stitch along with Chooky, Susan and all you girls was the best thing I've done in years.   What a difference it makes having a reason to keep up with the blocks of the month... fear of the lash is a great motivator!     I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there will be another SAL starting soon.

OK... now I have to quilt it.   I'm thinking of hand quilting.  Never done it before but I really think this lovely project deserves yet more effort on my part.

Must dash.... I'm on retreat at the moment and computer time is restricted.  Thought you might like to see the sunset here on the Mull of Galloway last night.....

Have a lovely week... stitching Natures Journey

Its a finish!!

Some amazing quilts out there!
Its been great to see everyones progress and without the deadlines of the SAL I'm sure my quilt would have ended up a UFO.

Well ..it still needs to be quilted… but here it is…the fairy floss version of Natures Journey..

Bring on the next SAL please Chooky and Susan…and thanks heaps for organising us all to make some fabulous quilts..thanks also to Annie for designing such a fun project.
Happy stitching everyone.
Lea

Lots of Little Squares.

I am getting there girls . I have all my squares and rectangles cut out for the entire quilt. I have all the diamonds pinned on and one and a half sides diamonds stitched on. So I had better hurry up and get sewing. Sorry Chooky didn't make the deadline...Yet  .

I am adding my pot(vase) last . I am not sure what colour I want yet.

Update for September

Well unfortunately I didn't get the large quota of sewing for the borders finished this month as I had hoped, but I am well on the way -
Three quarters of the nine patches completed and I will continue to work away on them on the weekend. Cheryl

Natures Journey Update

With the deadline looming I am sorry to say I won't be meeting it!

While in retreat recently I managed to get most of the centre block complete.

I have left the dragon fly and the butterfly. I won't be adding those little extras.

I am off to stitching tonight and have packed my NJ box. So tonight's plan is to
- cut the border
- trace and cut the diamonds and hopefully
- prepare the border for the diamonds.

I am not one for excuses but with work commitments and the uni course I haven't been able to balance time. I have taken a week off work in the hope that I can knock over the final essay for this course and then I can focus on NJ.

Well done to everyone as the progress is amazing.

Still Making Progress

 Lots of stitching later....
Here is the result....
After I made this photo, I left for a road trip, a wedding
and a return trip home...
I am going to be busy this week but hopefully I'll be able to get
some sewing done on Wednesday...
I didn't trim my applique blocks as I made them, so
I have that to do before I can sew them together...
I like the way this is beginning to look...like
the colors...

My progress so far........

Hi everyone, here I am at last to show you a couple of photos of my progress so far. Not sure if I will be able to have the top finished by the end of the month which is only 2 days away, but I will keep plugging away and hopefully it will be finished by next month.

I am really pleased to have finished my satin stitch stems on the centre block at last. The peeper is attached and the next border is almost there.
Love all the finished tops and completed quilts. Congratulations to those ladies. Everyone else is doing really well. Thank you Chooky and Susan for giving us the push we need to get the top over the finish line. See you next time............ Noela........

PS: Edited by Susan - it is hard to see in the picture - but Noela's satin stitch is beautiful. - Certainly worth the effort Noela.

Diamonds on the inside ...

I turn everything into a song .... So I'm behind and I thought I would just skip the diamonds ....

But it really needs them ....

Don't you think ? So I'm diamonding away for the next few days ....
Have got the next border ready to go ....
It won't be a September finish but it will defiantly be October !!!

Getting her dun

Well, a bit of good news first.
I finished the top except for the two the borders.
Yay for me!

Bad news is, I sprained my foot while motorbike riding yesterday, and it's my sewing foot too, so I won't be able to use the machine for at least a few weeks.
But that's ok. I'll just have to put my feet up and hand sew my butt off!
So, I need a tick for last month still, and we will postpone the next tick for a few weeks ;))

Hoping everyone is stitching up a storm and "gettin her dun"

Reporting in!!

I have to say I am just loving all thenposts and the finished ones are fabulous.   They are all so different.  Sadly i dont have any updates on mine, but I will get back to it and I will get it finished.
I always feel very guilty when I see the results coming through.  I will get back to it soon and report in with a finished centre.

The top is done!

There has been so much machine sewing happening here. I just had to get my top made for the Stitch-a-long blog by the end of September and here it is! It was a big job but worth it to have this quilt top ready!

I couldn't help myself....

... I discovered that this is true for me....

... so whenever Hubz wasn't looking I hid in the sewing room and did a bit more.... (he thought I was sorting stuff!!)

... and this morning whilst Hubz caught up on the World Cup Rugby he had recorded, I did a bit more 'sorting'.....

I love this top......

There is so much to look at in each part of it.....

... I purchased some extra plain red French General for the binding.....

... now it's folded up together and packed in a box.....

Big thanks and Hugz to Chookyblue who hosts this fun quilt making, and trusty Susan who helps out with whip cracking..... and all of you who sewalong and are so encouraging to....

Righto, Gotto Go... I really need to do some of that sorting now

so pleased.........

I will return and catch up on all your posts when I can........in the mean time look out for Susan.......shes doing a great job keeping you all on task...........

A Quick Tally

It's great to see so many posts lately and a lot of finished tops & quilts.

Top is ready for the Quilting, thanks for the organisation, hope the next SAL see you soon

and this Journey comes to an end...

a poor picture, however I do not want to delay the pleasure of posting my picture and announcing that I have finished my top of Natures Journey!  It will be while until it will be actually quilted because my friend who has a long arm is on vacation....humph!
Well ladies it has been a pleasure.  I am looking forward to seeing more finished tops.  Good Luck ladies...happy stitching!
A HUGE THANK YOU Chooky and Sue for all the time you spend working on this SAL.  I will treasure the memories of our meeting in Brisbane forever and look forward to doing it all over again one day.

Ooooopppppssss !

I won't be able to finish this month…
I'm on vacations and have to be with my family and friends….
They don't understand and won't forgive me to be in my studio all day long…

I hope to come back soon !
Florence

My top is finished ... and I'm happy !

Finally I have pieced together my top and can show my progress here ....  I decided to put 5" squares around the first border so quilting will be done in them .... flowers, birds, etc......

Then all the appliqué borders were sewn together and pieced around the quilt .... I left the squares their original size, hoping to make the quilt a little bigger ...

Then I added the colourful 2" square border around the outside .... (not such a good photo)

Then finally pieced borders of the blue background fabrics around the outside ... different lengths ... and I'm happy with the end result !!  It's a shame this has finished, because it was such fun to make and now I'm looking forward to having it quilted !!   Thanks Chooky and Susan for cracking the whip and for organising the Stitch A Long ....

I will come back soon with a photo of my quilted and bound quilt .... don't hold your breath though !!

Well up early
