- "Get a message to the fleet! We have to warn—"
- ―O'Niner's final words
O'Niner was a Clone Sergeant who served in the Grand Army of the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars. In 22 BBY, he commanded a small and inexperienced unit of clone troopers at Rishi Station, a Republic outpost on the Rishi Moon. Although his men found their assignment boring, O'Niner had no delusions about the importance of Rishi Station to the security of key quadrants of Republic space. When Separatist BX-series droid commandos infiltrated the base, O'Niner fought them despite being outnumbered and was eventually executed by the droids.
Biography[]
In command on Rishi Moon[]
- "You may not realize it, Fives, but you landed at the most boring post in the Outer Rim."
"And one of the most important." - ―Hevy and O'Niner
O'Niner was a clone of the bounty hunter Jango Fett, created on the planet Kamino[1] to serve in the Galactic Republic's Grand Army during the Clone Wars. During the early stages of the war against the Confederacy of Independent Systems[3] in 22 BBY,[2] O'Niner was a sergeant in charge of a unit of at least seven other clone troopers at Rishi Station, a Republic outpost located on the Rishi Moon. The outpost helped monitor and protect key areas of Republic space from potential Separatist attacks, including the quadrant that included Kamino. The clones in his unit were freshly graduated and were on their first assignment.[3]
The outpost was remote and devoid of day-to-day action, which frustrated the clone trooper Hevy, who desired more exciting duties. When he complained to his fellow trooper Fives, O'Niner entered the command center and reminded them of the outpost's importance. As the men stood at attention, he told them that multiple clone officers were on the way and that they needed to prepare for inspection. Just then, one of the scanners picked up an incoming meteor shower. In response, O'Niner ordered that the base's shields be raised. The meteors harmlessly deflected off of the shields, but, unbeknownst to O'Niner and his men, several Separatist boarding ships were disguised amongst the meteors, which avoided their scanners and landed nearby. The ships carried a team of BX-series droid commandos that approached the base to launch a surprise attack, which they began by eliminating the deck officer on duty, CT-327.[3]
O'Niner used his comlink to contact CT-327, wanting to check in after the meteor activity. When he was unable to reach the sentry, he sent the troopers Nub and Droidbait to locate them. The pair of clones discovered the droids infiltrating the base but were quickly killed, and O'Niner grabbed his DC-15A blaster carbine and donned his helmet, preparing to fight. He defended the base against the attackers, leading the line and returning fire as the droids attempted to ascend the main stairs into the command center. Taking cover against the wall, O'Niner ordered the other troopers to alert the nearby Republic fleets, but the droids had disabled their beacon. O'Niner was then shot in the leg, causing him to fall onto the stairs. Telling the survivors to flee, O'Niner was killed, shot in the chest at point-blank range by the droids.[3]
Legacy[]
- "Where's your Sergeant?"
"Dead, sir. We're all that's left." - ―Commander Cody and Echo
The Separatists went on to capture the base but were unable to stop four members of O'Niner's outfit from escaping, namely Hevy, Fives, Echo, and Cutup. Cutup was killed by Rishi eels, but the other three troopers managed to rendezvous with the two officers that were arriving for inspection, Clone Commander Cody and Clone Captain Rex. With their help, the clones were able to retake the base, although they were unable to reactivate the beacon to alert the Republic of the Separatist fleet amassing in the area. However, O'Niner's men finished thwarting the Separatist incursion when Hevy sacrificed himself to destroy the base and thus alert the Republic fleet of the Separatist plot.[3]
Personality and traits[]
O'Niner was a firm leader and commander, understanding the importance of his assignment despite its dull nature. He was a capable soldier, throwing himself into action when the outpost was invaded.[3]
A human clone of Jango Fett, O'Niner was 1.83 meters (6 ft) tall[1] and weighed eighty kilograms.[5] He had brown eyes, tan skin, and black hair that was graying.[3]
Skills and abilities[]
As a clone trooper, O'Niner was skilled in both armed and unarmed combat and had knowledge of military tactics.[1]
Equipment[]
O'Niner wore standard, unmarked Phase I clone trooper armor. He was armed with a DC-15A blaster,[3] a standard-issue weapon of the Republic Army.[6] Like other clone troopers, O'Niner had a behavioral modification biochip implanted in his brain by Kaminoan scientists at birth to ensure that he would be complicit in certain orders.[7]
Behind the scenes[]
O'Niner first appeared in "Rookies,"[3] the fifth episode of the first season of the animated television series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The episode premiered on October 24, 2008.[4] While O'Niner was not named in the episode,[3] he was identified in the series' accompanying Episode Guide on StarWars.com, which was released on the same day as the episode.[4] Like all clone troopers in the series,[8] O'Niner was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.[3]
