- "Watch for aggressive local fauna. The animals in this vicinity have been classed A-1 for vicious behavior."
- ―OOM-9
The Gungan Swamp was the name of all the swamps and marshes that covered most of the surface of the planet Naboo.
Description[]
The Gungan Swamp was named after the Gungans who inhabited the area. The Gungan Swamp was a complex and rich primeval ecosystem made of swamplands, tidal bassins, inland seas, sloughs, rivers, grasslands, ponds, lakes, lone mountains, cliffs and craggs. The waterways and channels that composed the Gungan Swamp were constantly changing, making travel very difficult. A large number of vegetal and animal species completed this ecosystem. It included large animals such as falumpasets, fambaas, ikopis and kaadus.[1]
Several wetlands composed the Gungan Swamp, including the Lianorm Swamp,[6] the Eastern swamps,[3] the Lasay Swamp and the Paitnnu Wetlands.[4] The Lianorm Swamp stretched over an area of thirty-four square miles and was located on the edge of Lake Paonga and the foothills of the Gallo Mountains. The Lianorm Swamp was noteworthy for being the location of the Gungan Sacred Place and Otoh Gunga.[6]
History[]
- "My troops are in position to begin searching the swamps for these rumored underwater villages. They will not stay hidden for long."
- ―OOM-9
In 32 BBY, the Trade Federation landed its forces in the Lianorm Swamp during the Invasion of Naboo.[6] It was from here that Jar Jar Binks led Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and his Padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi to Otoh Gunga. After the Fall of Theed, Trade Federation forces deployed in the Gungan Swamp to raid Gungan villages. Queen Padmé Amidala later went to the Gungan Sacred Place to meet Boss Rugor Nass and finally form an alliance between the Gungans and the Naboo.[11]
