The Spin Charge,[1][2][3] also known as the Spin Dash,[4] is Sonic's down special move in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Description[]
The Spin Charge is very similar to the Spin Dash. However, there are a few differences: Sonic does not hop on initiation of the attack; and the Spin Charge deals multiple hits as opposed to the Spin Dash dealing one hit. Charging the move is different from charging the Spin Dash; the player must hold down and press the special move button repeatedly for it to charge. Like the Spin Dash, charging it up gives it more speed and power. If the player taps the special move button but does not continue, Sonic will stop spinning instead of unleashing the move, allowing for feint attacks.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Spin Charge features colored trails to indicate charge strength: it goes from blue, to cyan, to yellow.
In the Nintendo 3DS and Wii U installments, the Spin Charge has two custom variations:
- Auto-Spin Charge: "A Spin Charge that can be powered up simply by holding the button."
- Gravitational Charge: "Foes in front are pulled in while foes behind are pushed. Takes more button presses to power up."
Trivia[]
- Spin Charge is based on the Classic Sonic games where the player can repeatedly tap the button for Spin Dash in order for the move to last long and go further.
