A Ring emitting Ring Energy, from Go Sega

Ring Energy[1][2] is a subject that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It refers to the type of energy infused within Rings.

Description[]

Ring Energy is a unspecified type of energy that can be found within Rings. Almost nothing has been revealed about what it is and what properties it holds. However, it is apparently harnessed directly from the Rings themselves.

Super Sonics (Sonic Generations)

Super State users, which rely on Ring Energy to sustain their transformations, from the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of Sonic Generations .

So far, Ring Energy has demonstrated re-energizing qualities. In smaller quantities, it can power devices, such as Emerald Detectors[3] and Badniks.[note 1] Larger amounts of Ring Energy can also be used to power massive strongholds. When harnessed by organic beings, it can rejuvenate their stamina and abilities, such as Silver's ESP[4] and Sonic's Boost.[note 2] Ring Energy is also often needed by Super State users to maintain their transformation.[1] This may hint that Ring Energy and Chaos Emerald energy share a connection.

Notes[]

  1. ↑ In Sonic Advance 3, Badniks release Rings upon their defeat, implying they can use them as power sources.
  2. ↑ While not stated outright, Ring Energy is implied to power the Sonic Boost in Sonic Unleashed, as the Boost Gauge is called the "Ring Energy Gauge" on the Xbox 360/PlayStation 3 version of the game.
