The Emerald Mine is a location featured in the Sonic the Comic series published by Fleetway Editions. It is an ancient mine filled with Raw Emeralds on the Floating Island, located within the Kohenyu Graveyard.
History[]
Past[]
The history of the Emerald Mine dates back to Mobius' distant past, during the war between the Echidnas and Drakon Empire. Seeking vessels for their unstable chaos energy, the Drakons raided the mine and infused seven Raw Emeralds with the energy. The Echidnas were able to steal these emeralds back and capture a Drakon prosecutor, but exposure to the emeralds mutated the captive into a monstrous creature known as Chaos. Draining some of the Emeralds' power, the Echidna elder Pochacamac weakened Chaos, who was sealed away by the Echidnas.
The Graveyard[]
The mine was visited 8,000 years later by Knuckles, who needed a raw Emerald to create a new Master Emerald after the original was destroyed by Doctor Zachary. Though accosted by the Spirit of the Herd, the vengeful spirits of the Kohenyu that were hunted to extinction by his people, Knuckles was able to mine a new Emerald and leave[1]
