Speed, power, handling. It delivers. It had adaptive hard-light camouflage, too. I call it the Eggstreme Gear.

Dr. Eggman, Sonic the Hedgehog #69

The Eggstreme Gear is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing. It is the modified version of the Extreme Gear.

Description[]

Features and traits[]

Just like the standard Extreme Gear, it is capable of hovering, has speed and power, and in addition, Dr. Eggman added an adaptive hard-light camouflage, by his own admission.

The Eggstreme Gear appears to have large storage built into it, as it was able to house a number of power-ups inside it.[1]

Design[]

It is a red rounded hoverboard, which is looking like the Moto Bug and/or Eggrobo's head.

History[]

Phantom Riders[]

After suspicion arises between Amy, Tails, and Sonic over the mysterious way their Extreme Gear became faulty in the middle of the Clean Sweepstakes qualifying race, Dr. Eggman appears and interrupts the trio. After explaining what he had been doing in the aftermath of the Eggperial City's collapse, Eggman expresses his annoyance at being mocked by Clean Sweep Inc. with Doctor Yolk and requests Sonic's assistance in his resurgence. In return for assisting Eggman, the Doctor reveals his state-of-the-art; Eggstreme Gear, and with it the proposition to Sonic: to create a distraction as the Phantom Rider, while Tails and Amy investigate the airship to figure out who is behind Clean Sweep Inc.[2]

Eggstreme Gear saves Phantom Rider

Phantom Rider remotely summons the Eggstreme Gear, from Sonic the Hedgehog #70.

On the next day, after Sonic transformed into Phantom Rider, he begun terrorizing the race. After Phantom Rider used the boost, it caused one of races to fall off the track, yet to be saved by Tangle.

Meanwhile, Jet is trying to caught the Phantom Rider, yet Phantom Rider used the gas to blind Jet just to get away, yet Phantom Rider was surrounded by Diamond Cutters, and Lanolin stunned Phantom Rider with her Golden Bell, causing the Eggstreme Gear to stuck in the glass tube. As guards came closer, the tube broke, causing the total chaos. As Phantom Rider flies away on Eggstreme Gear, Surge comes in and attacks Phantom Rider.

When Surge releases Phantom Rider to fall to death, he uses the hand controls to summon the Eggstreme Gear, and flies away.[3]

Eggstreme transforms

The Eggstreme transforms into a robot as Eggman controls it, from Sonic the Hedgehog #75.

Suddenly the Eggstreme Gear transforms into a battle robot with a monitor that has Dr. Eggman's face on it. Now in full control of the Eggstreme Gear, he charges at Clutch and grabs him, introducing himself to the opossum and admonishing him for his mockery and use of the Eggman Empire's property for his own gain. Eggman attempts to blow Clutch up with missiles, only for Sonic to intervene, remarking that this was not part of the deal. As they continue fighting, Sonic demands that Clutch apologize and fix his mess, tackling him to the ground while Eggman grabs Sonic. Surge then charges up and releases a massive blast of electricity on the three of them, which manages to knock Clutch out cold but also wear Surge herself out. However, Eggman reveals he built the Eggstreme Gear to be resistant to Surge's powers and picks up the unconscious Clutch. Sonic, still recovering from the blast, asks what Eggman is planning, to which he answers that it is just business and nothing for Sonic to worry about before flying away with Clutch.[4]
