Chase the Egg Razer upward, using the debris of the shattered ceiling to launch from the electrified floors.

— Description, Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia

The Egg Razer[1] is a vehicle that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. It is a large drilling machine created by Dr. Robotnik, who used it during the Little Planet incident.

Description[]

Appearance[]

The Egg Razer is a large, single-person rocket-like machine. It possesses a rocket on its bottom section. It also has a set of spikes on its top section which act as a drill.

Its color depends on the timeline; in the bad future, it is gray with a greenish-tone in it, while in the good future, it appears to be lavender-colored.

Features and abilities[]

The Egg Razer is capable of flight and can drill through metallic surfaces thanks to its drill.

History[]

Sonic the Hedgehog CD[]

In Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Dr. Robotnik used the Egg Razer in an attempt to destroy Sonic the Hedgehog in the Wacky Workbench. However, it was destroyed by his nemesis.

Battle[]

The Egg Razer is the boss of the Wacky Workbench in Sonic the Hedgehog CD, and the fifth boss overall. While in the original version it is only faced by Sonic, the 2011 remaster makes it possible to face it with Tails. In Sonic Origins Plus, it can also be fought with Knuckles and Amy.

Boss guide[]

The fight takes place in a high, multi-story room. The individual floors are separated from each other by a ceiling, through which the player cannot penetrate. When the player enters the room, the front door will slam shut behind them. There are as well electrical ray emitters on the walls.

After a while, the Egg Razer will fly down from above and hover in the center of the room. The player has to jump into the cockpit from the side in order to deal damage to this boss. After receiving a blow however, Dr. Robotnik will fly the Egg Razer upward up and break through the ceiling, unblocking the way to the room above, leaving a hole in the middle of the room. In addition, fragments from the ceiling in the form of small blocks will start raining down from above and land on the floor. The player must be careful not to get hit by this debris, and must then quickly jump onto one of them. Afterward, the electrical ray emitters on the walls of the room will activate, creating a beam of energy that will damage the playable character if they are not standing on the block debris.

After the electrical ray emitters have been turned on, the block debris will be flung into the and. However, the block on which the playable character is standing is not flung as high up as the other blocks, so in order to get to the upper floor where the Egg Razer is, the player has to jump from one brick to the other in order to get to the upper floor. If the player fails to reach the upper floor, they will fall back down to the floor below, along with the blocks. After a while however, the blocks will be flung into the air again. Once on the upper floor, the player will find the Egg Razer waiting for them. At this, point, hit the Egg Razer again. The Egg Razer will then fly up again, creating a hole in the ceiling and causing block debris to rain down. From here, the player has to follow the same steps as before.

After receiving its third hit, the Egg Razer will fly up again and get stuck to the ceiling of the room. However, this time, apart from making blocks fall down, spikes will rain down as well. The spikes themselves should be avoided. Afterward, the blocks will be flung up again as before. However, this time, the player has to stay on their block. This is because the rest of the blocks will hit the ceiling, thereby crushing the playable character if they attempt to hitch a ride on them. Once at the appropriate height, the player must the Egg Razer for the fourth and final time. Upon impact, the spikes on the top of the Egg Razer's cockpit will get stuck in the ceiling. The rest of the machine will then fall down, filling the gap in the pierced floor. Steam will then start coming out of it, and after a while, it will explode. Dr. Robotnik will then start to run away from the room.

Defeating the boss requires the player to follow the guide above. A sufficiently fast player can deal more than one hit to the boss on each floor, but this will not affect the course of the boss fight.

Trivia[]

  • When facing this boss as Tails in the 2011 remaster of Sonic CD, Tails' maximum flight time is severely reduced for the duration of the fight, to prevent the player from simply flying up and hitting the boss immediately without using the blocks.
    • Knuckles cannot climb the boss arena's walls in Sonic Origins Plus for similar reasons.
