The dash block[1] is an obstacle that appears in the Sonic Boom series. It is a type of block that bars the paths in the adventure levels.

Description[]

The dash blocks are blue, cube-shaped blocks with partially-visible arrow icons on the front surface. These arrows will glow when the player gets close to the dash block.

In gameplay, the dash blocks bar narrow passages that the player often has to use, preventing them from advancing through the levels. The only way to destroy a dash block is by hitting it with the Air Dash on the side that its arrow points away from; on any other side they are impervious. For this reason, the player will sometimes have to look for alternative paths in order to destroy the dash block from the other side.

In Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal, the dash blocks are mechanical with a few rectilinear recesses, a disk on the surface where the Air Dash can destroy them, and a cone on opposing side of the disk. Their arrow icons take the appearance of a blue circle with yellow triangles. In this game, the dash blocks' arrows are completely invisible until approached.

In the Worm Tunnels, there are also dash blocks that obscure the paths there. The player can boost through them by pressing Snnwiidsybuttondisco.

Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice[]

In Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, the dash blocks are more solid in design. They have smooth surfaces and a square recess (encircled by a light blue line) where the Air Dash can destroy them. Also, their arrow icons are light blue, highly stylized and take up most of the dash blocks' front surface.
